Think Tank Report: Empowering Communities through Citizenship Education and Lifelong Learning سنة النشر: 2025 المؤلف المؤسسي: UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) This short, explorator y repor t from the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) is the outcome of ‘Placing citizenship education within a lifelong learning perspective: From research to action’, a think tank meeting held in Hamburg in 2023. The meeting brought together experts from international organizations and academia and was organized by UIL in collaboration with the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding. The report reflects the inputs of participants while also drawing on the proposals of the International Commission on the Futures of Education (ICFE, 2021); the findings of the Fifth Global Report on Adult Learning and Education (GRALE 5) (UIL, 2022a); the Marrakech Framework for Action (UIL, 2022b); and the outcomes of the United Nations Transforming Education Summit of September 2022 (UN, 2023a; UN 2023b); as well as UNESCO’s Revised Recommendation concerning Education for International Understanding, Co-operation and Peace (UNESCO, 2023). It makes a case for putting citizenship education, interpreted not as a means of reproducing the status quo but as a catalyst for civic and social empowerment, at the heart of efforts to create more equitable, tolerant and just societies for all. It argues that citizenship, so construed, should be woven into the fabric of education, throughout and across the life course, recognizing its role in narrowing social and economic inequalities, overcoming social fragmentation, addressing the climate crisis and tackling the backlash against human rights and gender equality. This report calls for citizenship education and lifelong learning to be core pillars of a systems-level transformation in education, and provides recommendations for policy-makers, national and local governments, educators and civil society organizations to make citizenship education a priority in their policies and practices.

School of Psychology This article reports an effort to review the concept of school convivencia (peaceful coexistence, living together) in the Spanish context with the purpose of advancing into its clarification, and thus contributing to developing a common language in the Latin American region. The authors conduct a basic literature review oriented to identify the main theoretical approaches in the convivencia field. Subsequently, they analyze four studies focused in systematizing the prevailing approaches in the study of school convivencia. As a result, they propose a concept of convivencia from a social justice perspective adapted to education, and they operationalize it in three areas of school life: pedagogical-curricular, organizationaladministrative, and the socio-communitarian. This comprehensive notion of school convivencia may guide future research, educational initiatives, and school assessments in the convivencia field that may respond to the violence and pervasive social exclusion that exist in the Latin American region.

School of Psychology El presente trabajo reporta un ejercicio de revisión del concepto de convivencia escolar con vistas a apoyar su clarificación y, por tanto, contribuir al desarrollo de un lenguaje común en la región latinoamericana. Para ello las autoras conducen un trabajo documental orientado a identificar los principales enfoques teóricos en la literatura de convivencia. Posteriormente analizan cuatro estudios enfocados a sistematizar los enfoques prevalecientes en el estudio de la convivencia escolar. Como resultado, proponen un concepto de convivencia desde la perspectiva de la justicia social adaptada a la educación y lo operacionalizan en tres ámbitos de la vida escolar: pedagógico-curricular, organizativo-administrativo y socio-comunitario. Esta noción comprehensiva de la convivencia escolar podría apoyar la realización de investigaciones futuras, propuestas educativas y evaluaciones de convivencia escolar que ofrezcan una respuesta a la violencia y a la persistente exclusión social que existe en la región latinoamericana.

Becoming Citizens in a Changing World: IEA International Civic and Citizenship Education Study 2016 International Report سنة النشر: 2017 المؤلف: Wolfram Schulz, John Ainley, Julian Fraillon, Bruno Losito, Gabriella Agrusti, Tim Friedman المؤلف المؤسسي: International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement (IEA) The International Civic and Citizenship Education Study 2016 (ICCS 2016) investigated the ways in which young people are prepared to undertake their roles as citizens in a range of countries in the second decade of the 21st century. It studied students’ knowledge and understanding of civics and citizenship as well as students’ attitudes, perceptions, and activities related to civics and citizenship. Based on nationally representative samples of students, the study also examined differences among countries in relation to these outcomes of civic and citizenship education, and explored how cross-national differences relate to student characteristics, school and community contexts, and national characteristics. As the second cycle of this study, ICCS 2016 is a continuation and an extension of ICCS 2009.
Care and Self-care: Manual of Citizenship and Coexistence from the Collective Construction of Meanings and Networks سنة النشر: 2015 المؤلف المؤسسي: Centro de Investigación y Educación Popular (CINEP) This manual, which corresponds to the second phase of the Pedagogical Tool Box for Education for Citizenship and Coexistence, presents three axes of reflection: 1) self-care; 2) care of the others and the others: people near and far; and 3) care of strangers and the other. Each of the axes is accompanied by didactic tools that allow deepening in the contents.
