Home to more than half of the region’s population, Arab cities have transformed into heterogeneous spaces that host diverse identities, cultures, and ethnicities. In order for this transformation to lead to prosperity, city officials must adopt a rights-based, human-centred approach, and implement inclusive policies and measures that provide equal opportunities for all.In this context, the Toolkit for Urban Inclusion in Arab Cities provides Arab city leaders and local government officials with practical tools and advice to guide their efforts towards establishing inclusive and sustainable cities. The Toolkit is based on the real experiences and practices of cities members of the Coalition of Arab Cities against Racism, Discrimination, Xenophobia and Intolerance in planning, implementing and evaluating programs and projects that promote urban inclusion and combat exclusion in all its forms.The Toolkit focuses on four topics of high priority to the Arab Coalition member cities: public participation, access to information, sport for youth inclusion, and citizenship and human rights education. Une combinaison de nombreux facteurs a transformé la majorité des villes arabes en lieux de brassage où abondent les identités, les cultures et les ethnies variées. Ces transformations peuvent contribuer à la réalisation de la prospérité sociale, à condition que les responsables des villes adoptent un programme législatif centré sur les droits de l’homme, et qu’ils mettent en œuvre des politiques et des dispositions susceptibles de réaliser l’inclusion de manière à assurer l’égalité des chances à tous leurs habitants. Dans ce contexte, le Manuel des villes arabes pour l’inclusion urbaine propose un ensemble d’outils et de conseils pratiques susceptibles de servir de guide aux édiles des villes arabes et aux responsables des gouvernements locaux dans leur quête pour la mise en place de villes inclusives et durables. Le Manuel prend pour base les acquis et expériences de la Coalition des villes arabes contre le racisme, la discrimination, la xénophobie et l’intolérance dans la planification, la réalisation et l’évaluation de programmes et de projets pour favoriser l’inclusion sociale et pour s’opposer à l’exclusion sous toutes ses formes. Hydro Resilience: Citizen and Open Science for Climate Adaptation سنة النشر: 2024 المؤلف المؤسسي: UNESCO Human-induced climate change is affecting weather and climate extremes worldwide and causing changes in the atmosphere, ocean, cryosphere and biosphere leading to widespread adverse impacts on people and nature. These conditions have exposed people to reduced water security and negatively affected food security and ecosystem services. Despite advances in climate and water sciences, there is still a significant gap between information availability and its uptake by stakeholders. Although there is abundant data and information available on the potential impacts of climate change, there is a lack of expert knowledge on the user side, which limits the development and implementation of effective adaptation strategies at the local level. There is also an opportunity to bring communities more on board to manage their climate risk through citizen engagement and to ensure that vulnerable communities can benefit from climate science foresight. To address these challenges, a new project was developed called ‘Hydro Resilience: Citizen and Open Science for Climate Adaptation’ to pilot citizen and open science applications for climate risk management and to support water management under climate change uncertainty. 
National Capacity Building on Inventorying the Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Arab Republic of Egypt سنة النشر: 2024 المؤلف: Ahmed Bahi El Din | Haitham Younes المؤلف المؤسسي: UNESCO | UNESCO Cairo Communities in Egypt are inventorying their living heritage Egypt is famed for its rich civilization and long history. Egyptian identity is presented not only through archaeological sites and Ancient Egyptian civilization, but also through Egypt’s diverse living heritage. More than simply showing who they are today, this living heritage tells the story of how the Egyptians arrived at this point over the generations.To celebrate this identity and strengthen national capacities to safeguard it, UNESCO, alongside the Egyptian government and civil society, implemented the project Strengthening National Capacities for Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage in Egypt for Sustainable Development, which ran from June 2018 to June 2021.The project focused on community-based inventorying of living heritage. This involved training workshops and a pilot community-based inventorying exercise, which took place in six different locations throughout Egypt (Cairo, Fayoum, Gharbeya, Aswan, Assuit, and Marsa Matrouh). Thanks to the project, participating community practitioners and heritage bearers are now equipped to inventory their own living heritage. • This pilot was Egypt’s first step to establishing a national inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) under the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with community practitioners. • This publication provides recommendations on how to further enhance national capabilities for ICH safeguarding and how to advance community engagement in the inventorying processes in Egypt.
