Materials refer to the resources (e.g. textbooks) which are used in pre-service teacher education institutions. Teacher education utilizes a wide range of materials, including those used by teacher educators as an aid to teaching, and those used by student teachers as an aid to learning.

The guides discuss challenges and barriers to inclusive education in different areas of teacher education and offer related strategies and solutions for effective advocacy towards more inclusive practices. The series begins with this introductory guide. It provides an overview of inclusive teacher education and of what advocacy means in this context. It also provides an introduction to the topics covered in the four other guides in the series. These are ‘Policy’, ‘Curriculum’, ‘Materials’, and ‘Methodology’.Advocacy Guide 5: Methodology – changing teaching methodology within teacher education institutions. Methodology refers to the theory and practice of teaching and learning. This addresses how teaching and learning is understood, organized, and conducted. Methodology, then, is the overall framework or approach to teaching which encompasses specific teaching methods. For example, an overall inclusive teaching methodology involves specific approaches to individualized/personalized instruction, and learner-centred teaching. These four advocacy guides are structured so that they: • break the issue down into several key challenges; • analyse the broad situation in the region, and suggest questions that advocates could ask to help them investigate the situation in their specific context; and • suggest pertinent advocacy goals, and the messages that advocates may want to convey, as well as indicators for deciding whether advocacy on the issue is having any impact. Tables at the end of each advocacy guide summarize the advocacy messages and suggest potential targets for each message, and then offer space for readers to make notes about how they might convey these messages to each target (drawing on advice provided in the brief guide to advocacy in this introductory guide). Illustrative case studies are provided wherever possible, and readers are encouraged to use their own investigations within their context to identify local case studies that they can use to back up their advocacy messages.

Policy refers mainly to the guiding rules, laws and principles of education at the national level and within teacher education institutions. Policy guides the practices of individuals, groups and institutions on various inclusive education issues.
Inclusion from the start: guidelines on inclusive early childhood care and education for Roma children سنة النشر: 2014 المؤلف المؤسسي: UNESCO | Council of Europe Inclusion from the start: guidelines on inclusive early childhood care and education for Roma children (Guidelines hereafter) is a joint contribution by the Council of Europe and UNESCO to improving access to quality early childhood services for Roma children. They are a concrete follow-up to the recommendations arising from an expert meeting, organised by the two organisations in 2007.1 Recognising that quality early childhood experience is an important stepping stone toward inclusive participation in school and society, the Guidelines address the challenges specifc to Roma children in the early years and transition to primary education. They provide guidance on key themes, such as the conceptualisation of early childhood care and education (ECCE) services, agenda-setting, stakeholders’ responsibilities, curricular and pedagogical approaches, staf training and professional development, assessment and transition to primary education. The Guidelines primarily address formal ECCE services – such as kindergartens and preschools – which typically cater for children from ages 3-6 years. The reason for this focus is that providing care and education experience prior to primary school entry is crucial for supporting Roma children’s school readiness and for facilitating an equal start in their frst year. This being said, the Guidelines also acknowledge the critical importance of the years pre-natal to age 3, and consider health and nutrition interventions and non-formal ECCE programmes (e.g. community-based childcare, parenting education) as essential services in deprived neighbourhoods and settlements.

Ils sont un suivi concret aux recommandations découlant d'une réunion d'experts, organisée par les deux organisations en 2007.1. Reconnaissant que l'expérience de qualité de la petite enfance est une étape importante vers la participation inclusive à l'école et de la société, les lignes directrices abordent les défis spécifques aux enfants roms dans les premières années et la transition à l'enseignement primaire. We were interested to see how our observations from the first study would be reflected in a more global context with focus on the cases of Canada, India and South Africa looking at both the models for world citizenship education and the influence of contextual factors.In choosing these countries we were interested in:Countries on different continentsCountries in different stages of national, social and economic developmentCountries in which there was considerable diversity in the populationCountries in which citizenship and world citizenship education was seen as an important priorityCountries, because of the limitations of researchers, which used English as a primary language.In addition to background research we asked for assistance from professors in the field of teacher education in the three countries to provide us with information on key questions related to citizenship education and teacher training.

Nous nous sommes intéressés de voir comment nos observations de la première étude serait reflétée dans un contexte plus global en mettant l'aCECnt sur les cas du Canada, l'Inde et l'Afrique du Sud qui cherchent à la fois les modèles pour l'éducation à la citoyenneté mondiale et l'influence des facteurs contextuels. Dans le choix de ces pays, nous étions intéressés à: ● Les pays sur différents continents ● pays à différents stades de développement national, social et économique ● Les pays dans lesquels il y avait une grande diversité dans les populations ● Les pays dans lesquels la citoyenneté et la citoyenneté mondiale l'éducation a été considérée comme une priorité ● importants pays, en raison des limitations des chercheurs, qui ont utilisé l'anglais comme langue principale. Outre la recherche de fond, nous avons demandé l'aide de professeurs dans le domaine de la formation des enseignants dans les trois pays pour nous fournir des informations sur des questions clés liées à l'éducation à la citoyenneté et à la formation des enseignants.
