However, the spread of digital technologies also comes with a broad spectrum of risks and harms to which children can be particularly vulnerable. Under the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the Children’s Rights and Business Principles, businesses have a responsibility to identify, assess, and address relevant human rights risks, including risks to children’s rights. With respect to the digital environment, a rapidly evolving landscape and the emergence of new technologies has changed the nature and severity of actual and potential child rights risks relating to business activities. In response, UNICEF has initiated a project to assess the current child rights impact assessment (CRIA) landscape in relation to digital business activities and develop new guidance to support robust implementation going forward. A summary of initial project findings is now available here. Further project outputs including the updated guidance (currently under development) are anticipated in late 2024. Global Kids Online: Comparative Report سنة النشر: 2019 المؤلف: Sonia Livingstone | Daniel Kardefelt-Winther | Marium Saeed المؤلف المؤسسي: UNICEF Innocenti The internet is often celebrated for its ability to aid children’s development. But it is simultaneously criticized for reducing children’s quality of life and exposing them to unknown and unprecedented dangers. There is considerable debate about when or how children’s rights – including the rights to expression, to privacy, to information, to play and to protection from harm, as set out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child – may be realized or infringed in the digital age. With more children around the world going online every day, it is more important than ever to clarify how the internet can advance children’s opportunities in life while safeguarding them from harm or abuse. This requires evidence, from children themselves, that represents the diversity of children’s experiences at the national and global levels. By talking to children, we are better able to understand not only the barriers they face in accessing the internet, but also the opportunities they enjoy and the skills and competences they acquire by engaging in these activities. This allows us to enquire about children’s exposure to online risks and possible harms, and about the role of their parents as mediators and sources of support. In bringing children’s own voices and experiences to the centre of policy development, legislative reform and programme and service delivery, we hope the decisions made in these spheres will serve children’s best interests.  Teachers Guide on the SDGs United Nations (UN) This teaching guide, aimed at grade level K-12, gives an introduction and historical background to the SDGs. Key questions along with primary resources are provided to facilitate comprehension and engage students critically. Through analysis of the Preamble to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the connection will be made to the Millenium Development Goals and Human Rights, to demonstrate continuity and evolution of certain principle values held by the international community. Focus then shifts to SDG 4, quality education, so that students can ore clearly analyze the progress that has been made regarding this topic on a micro level. Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals: The Gender Snapshot United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) | UN. Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN. DESA) The pandemic has tested and even reversed progress in expanding women’s rights and opportunities. Women have not recovered lost jobs and income, hunger is on the rise, and school closures threaten girls’ educational gains. Women’s participation in government, research and resource management remains far from equal. Vulnerable groups of women, including migrants, those with disabilities and those affected by conflict, are frequently left behind. Disparities between rich and poor countries are preventing equal access to lifesaving COVID-19 vaccines and treatments, putting women in poorer countries at disproportionate risk. Moreover, despite women’s central roles in responding to COVID-19, including as front-line health workers, they do not have the leadership positions they deserve. Building forward differently and better will require placing women and girls at the centre of all aspects of response and recovery, including through gender- responsive laws, policies and budgeting.Progress on the Sustainable Development Goals: The Gender Snapshot 2021 presents the latest evidence on gender equality across all 17 Sustainable Development Goals, highlighting the progress made since 2015 but also the continued alarm over the COVID-19 pandemic, its immediate effect on women’s well-being and the threat it poses to future generations.  Progrès vers la réalisation des objectifs de développement durable: Gros plan sur l’égalité des sexes 2021 سنة النشر: 2021 المؤلف المؤسسي: United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) | UN. Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN. El progreso en el cumplimiento de los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible: Panorama de género 2021 سنة النشر: 2021 المؤلف المؤسسي: United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) | UN. Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN. A New Era for Girls: Taking Stock on 25 Years of Progress for Girls سنة النشر: 2020 المؤلف المؤسسي: United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) | United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) | Plan International The analysis presented in this report demonstrates that while girls' lives are better today than they were 25 years ago, the gains are uneven across all regions. The report calls on global, national and regional stakeholders to expand opportunities for girls and young women to be the changemakers and designers of the solutions to their challenges and opportunities; invest in the skills development of adolescent girls so they can compete in today's labour market; improve girls' health and nutrition; and end violence in all its forms against them.
