It is the direct result of a Higher Education Forum held in June 2006 on the responsibility of higher education for citizenship, human rights and sustainability. This forum was a part of the Council of Europe's long-standing commitment to work in the area of education for democratic citizenship and human rights. It complements earlier work on the public responsibility for higher education and research which led to a recommendation of the Committee of Minister to the member states of the Council of Europe in 2007. If our aim is to work for sustainable democratic societies, the responsibility of public authorities for a high-quality higher education system must go hand in hand with the responsibility of higher education institutions towards the advancement of society.

COMPASS: a manual on human rights education with young people سنة النشر: 2012 المؤلف: Patricia Brander المؤلف المؤسسي: Council of Europe Compass was first published in 2002 within the framework of the Human Rights Education Youth Programme of the Directorate of Youth and Sport of the Council of Europe. The programme was created because human rights education – meaning educational programmes and activities that focus on promoting equality in human dignity – was and remains of incalculable value in shaping a dimension of democratic citizenship for all young people and in promoting a culture of universal human rights.Compass has become a reference manual for many young people involved in value-based youth work and non-formal education. It is currently available in more than 30 languages, ranging from Arabic and Japanese to Icelandic and Basque. In some countries it has become part of the resources for human rights education in schools and in some others it is not possible to use it in schools. The adventures of Compass across Europe often mirror the contrasted reality of human rights education: promoted here and combated there, praised by some and despised by others.The success of Compass has been followed by its younger sibling, Compasito – a manual for human rights education with children is already available in several languages and on the way to becoming another bestseller for human rights education. More importantly, Compass and its publication in various language versions has been the medium through which human rights education has been brought onto the agenda of youth work and into the programme of many schools. National networks for human rights education have been created in several countries, where they reinforce the work done by human rights organisations and educational professionals in making the right to human rights education a reality to more children and young people across Europe. The forum on human rights education with young people, Living, Learning, Acting for Human Rights, held in Budapest in 2009, stressed the importance of human rights education today. Towards Compassionate Global Citizenship: Educating the Heart through Development Education and Cognitively-Based Compassion Training (Vol. 19, Autumn, 2014) سنة النشر: 2014 المؤلف: Caroline Murphy | Brendan Ozawa-de Silva | Michael Winskel المؤلف المؤسسي: Centre for Global Education (CGE) The authors present an argument for developing emotional literacy which can be applied to critical development education to bring about active citizens who have capacity to take compassionate action for global justice. It is argued that both emotional skills and critical thinking skills are mutually essential, and in fact it is only by cultivating a symbiosis between these, can pedagogy be developed that presents a true transformational agency to people. The paper attempts to synthesise development education (DE) with Cognitively-Based Compassion Training (CBCT), and argues that these are potentially compatible to acquire such pedagogy. While DE can provide individuals with the skills to think critically and react to injustice, CBCT can provide the skills and emotional capacity to intervene for change, without giving in to despair, anger, or burnout. In short, it is argued that DE and CBCT can provide the emotional and intellectual skills necessary for productive social activism and change. Throughout this article it is highlighted how the international development organisation, Children in Crossfire (CIC), has been grappling with the above mentioned and related disciplines, and how it has been working, in partnership with researchers from Emory University and Life University’s Center for Compassion and Secular Ethics, to evolve its DE teacher training practice, Teachers in Development and Learning (TIDAL), towards such a transformative pedagogy, entitled ‘Educating the Heart for Compassionate Global Citizenship’.

Guide pédagogique 2015: Mener des actions de sensibilisation grâce à l'Education à la Citoyenneté et à la Solidarité Internationale (ECSI): Des outils pour sensibiliser sur les dérèglements climatiques et ses conséquences à travers le monde سنة النشر: 2015 المؤلف المؤسسي: RéCiDev Besançon (Réseau Citoyenneté Développement) Ce guide pédagogique est destiné aux acteurs de la semaine de solidarité internationale qui se déroule tous les ans autour de la 3ème semaine de novembre en France. Il propose des outils d'Education à la citoyenneté et à la solidarité internationale (ECSI) pour mener des actions de sensibilisation sur le dérèglement climatique et ses conséquences à travers le monde. Il comprend :- une première partie théorique sur les valeurs et la pédagogie de l'ECSI- une seconde partie pratique qui présente des outils pédagogiques- une troisième partie qui donne des informations pratiques sur les acteurs et les ressources en ECSI.

Preventing Violent Extremism through Sport: Technical Guide; Criminal Justice Handbook Series سنة النشر: 2020 المؤلف المؤسسي: UN. Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) The Technical Guide on Preventing Violent Extremism through Sport, developed in consultation with international experts, recognizes the importance of promoting the well-being of children and youth. It applies an approach that encourages prosocial behaviour and good safeguarding and welfare practices, with particular emphasis on educational and social development measures in line with the United Nations Guidelines for the Prevention of Crime.The guide, addressed mainly to policy makers and implementing organizations, has been carefully designed to support effective integration of sport-based learning in primary prevention frameworks. By adopting a five-zone approach to prevent violent extremism namely safe space, empowerment, resilience, social inclusion and education, it supports informed policy development and a Theory of Change that can shape curriculum design and content. To further support global efforts in preventing violent extremism, UNODC is also developing an e-learning module and a practical tool for trainers that will be published soon and will complement this technical guide.
