Global citizenship: from public support to active participation سنة النشر: 2012 المؤلف: Christine Carabain | Shelena Keulemans | Marije van Gent | Gabi Spitz المؤلف المؤسسي: National Committee for International Cooperation and Sustainable Development (NCDO) This publication explores the concept of global citizenship by drawing on the most relevant, mainly scientific, literature. This exploration will in the coming years be the basis for NCDO’s programmes in the area of research, staff training, and knowledge sharing. NCDO has the important task of engaging people in these two major changes in perspective: what does it mean, how important is it to us, how can we contribute to it? NCDO considers it its responsibility to raise awareness amongst Dutch citizens of the growing connection and mutual dependency between people across the globe, as well as to make them aware of the opportunities they have to help tackle global issues. In other words: NCDO aims to advance the global dimension of citizenship in the Netherlands. But what exactly is that global dimension of citizenship? Despite growing awareness of the importance of global citizenship, a clear and broadly accepted definition of the concept is still lacking (Hart, 2011). To date the concept is often explained by using examples and focus areas. This publication will present the definition of global citizenship that NCDO will employ in the coming period.
Global citizenship: from public support to active participation سنة النشر: 2012 المؤلف: Christine Carabain | Shelena Keulemans | Marije van Gent | Gabi Spitz المؤلف المؤسسي:
Global Monitoring of Target 4.7: Themes in National Curriculum Frameworks; Background Paper Prepared for the 2016 Global Education Monitoring Report سنة النشر: 2016 المؤلف المؤسسي: UNESCO International Bureau of Education (IBE) This study is an initial attempt to monitor ESD and GCED content in curricula globally. The goal here is to analyse national curriculum documents to reveal if, how, and to what extent ESD and GCED content is present across the globe. For this purpose, the research team developed a coding scheme based on key ESD and GCED knowledge, skills, behaviours and pedagogies that was used in evaluating the various national curriculum documents for evidence of ESD and GCED content. In this paper, we present the study in the following order. Further explanation of ESD and GCED, and a discussion of issues relating to their implementation and monitoring will come first. Then we will review similar studies that have also attempted to monitor GCED and ESD through content analysis. The study’s methods and findings will then be presented, followed by a discussion of the challenges addressed in developing a coding system to monitor curricula effectively. Finally, we share a series of recommendations that will focus on ways for moving forward in monitoring GCED and ESD effectively, both at a curricular level and beyond.
المظاهر الثقافية في الديانتين المسيحية والإسلامية سنة النشر: 2011 المؤلف المؤسسي: UNESCO Beirut | Université Saint Joseph de Beyrouth This book allows the readers the opportunity to know about the cultural aspects related to religions, mainly in Lebanon and the Near East, their meaning and their aim. This knowledge will help the reader, firstly, to grasp the meaning of these various aspects, whether they concern him directly or the people who live in the same country, with whom he shares common space and living. Secondly, the book contributes to the Lebanese understanding one another’s behaviors and their own behavior concerning these aspects. Therefore, the book also contributes to the Lebanese looking at one another with more trust before starting to criticize. This book includes chapters that cover most of the different cultural aspects in Christian and Islamic religions. The first chapter deals with time, passing through each month of the year and its days, in a chronological manner. The second chapter delves into religious occasions in the Christian then Islamic religions. It explains the meaning of Holidays and remembrances of God and their particular aspects as well as the religious reasons of each. This chapter includes a part about al-‘awliya’ and Saints who are mentioned in some of the Lebanese daily rituals. Chapter three delves into the individual’s life stages from birth to religious vows, to marriage and death. The aspects that go with these stages constitute an important part in the life of the Lebanese. This chapter details the aspects and traditions of all these stages in which people take part, thus creating a common ground in a multi-religious society. Chapter four deals with religious practices, acts of worship, and legal prescriptions. It describes them and deals with their spiritual meaning to individuals who express their faith when practicing them. Prayer, Mass, and Pilgrimage, among others, are religious practices that are detailed in a way to make the reader understand what they mean to those who perform them. Chapter five leads us into religious places and their meaning, from churches to mosques and monasteries, khalwat and husayniyyat, all of which have different and divergent meanings to visitors. Yet, they all show the importance given by man to the place when expressing his faith and his relation with the Creator. Chapter six takes us to religious habits and customs, such as the clothes worn by religious dignitaries, their symbolism and meaning. It also deals with some general habits and customs. The reader may find that some chapters overlap. In fact, we have tried to make each part related to the others yet independent from them. This method facilitates the reading and understanding of any subject on its own without the need to refer to prior or subsequent parts. Finally, those who had any – minor or major – contribution in this book – despite the lacks that some readers might see – hope that they have offered a useful work in the process of discovering others who are different and who hold rich traditions as well human and spiritual values.

AntiClash is a program concept that goes against the culture of c "lash" by emphasizing the spirit and method of dialogue. During themed programs, facilitated by dialogue professionals, speakers - well-known or not, experts or not, but disagreeing on a potentially controversial subject - are invited to get to the bottom of their differences, with authenticity and respect. This is not a news program. The hosts are neither journalists nor experts in the fields covered by the guests. As such, they do not engage in "fact checking" or "debunking", but invite their listeners to verify for themselves the facts put forward by the speakers. The aim of AntiClash is to show what real dialogue looks like, by enabling a better understanding of antagonistic discourses, which the culture of clash in the media and networks does not allow. It's not about creating a society where everyone agrees, but our differences, if the subject of constructive conversation, should enrich our understanding of political fault lines and enable us to move closer to a shared truth by re-establishing bonds of trust and ethical communication between citizens. AntiClash is an attempt to show an alternative to confrontation on the issues that matter.
Forum panafricain: sources et ressources pour une culture de la Paix سنة النشر: 2013 المؤلف المؤسسي: African Union The Pan-African Forum “ Sources and resources for a culture of peace” was held in Luanda, Angola, from 26 to 28 March 2013, and was jointly organized by UNESCO, the African Union and the Government of Angola, under the High Patronage of H. E. Mr José Eduardo dos Santos, President of the Republic of Angola. This forum was the result of a close cooperation between UNESCO and the African Union, one of their main objectives being building peace in Africa, through the promotion of a culture of peace based on the intrinsic values of African societies. The Republic of Angola Government, through its President of the Republic H. E. Mr José Eduardo dos Santos, resolutely engaged in this process with major financial and technical support for the organization of the Forum in the Angolan capital city. As indicated in the Action Plan adopted by the participants in plenary (Annex I), recommendations made during the Forum are directed at all components of African society : political leaders, national and regional institutions, civil society, community associations, youth movements and women’s organizations, religious and traditional leaders, entrepreneurs and leaders from the private sector, etc. The implementation of the Action Plan will be continuously monitored by the two institutions that jointly organized the Luanda Forum, the African Union and UNESCO. Representatives from the 55 African countries participating in the Forum will both contribute to the proposal for action by bringing their national experience and take the lead in the follow‐up of the recommendations made at country level. In order to ensure this follow‐up it will be important to link together the participants by the creation of an African Network for the Promotion of a Culture of Peace and Non‐violence. The representatives of African countries will play the role of focal points of the awareness campaign at the national level. Finally, the agenda of the Forum includes a plan to hold a roundtable on the establishment of a multi-stakeholder partnership for action. Organized with the participation of regional institutions, public and private economic actors as well as representatives of Governments and Civil Society, this session will be the occasion to launch a continental and lasting Movement for the promotion of a culture of peace. For this round table and for the Campaign, the stakeholders can now witness the action as their Foundation / Company / Institution / Organization leads to help in building the defence of peace in the minds of men and women and ensure that peace is a reality: "Make Peace Happen".
