Global Citizenship Education and the Rise of Nationalist Perspectives: Reflections and Possible Ways Forward Year of publication: 2018 Corporate author: UNESCO | APCEIU Over the past few years, many have observed a rise in nationalist perspectives across the world. These trends raise questions about the role of education and, in particular, one of UNESCO’s key areas of work in the field of education, namely Global Citizenship Education (GCED), which seeks to equip learners with the skills, values and attitudes needed to contribute to the development of peaceful and just societies. This paper seeks to clarify the evidence of the rise of nationalist perspectives and its causes, and to lay out how GCED is challenged by this phenomenon. It recommends ways forward for education stakeholders in promoting GCED, in order to strengthen ‘learning to live together’ by embedding GCED meaningfully in local and country contexts.

Bringing Living Heritage to the Classroom in Asia-Pacific: A Resource Kit Year of publication: 2022 Corporate author: UNESCO Bangkok | APCEIU | International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region (ICHCAP) Integrating living heritage in school teaching and learning can enhance education quality, enliven the experiences of students and teachers, and contribute to keeping this heritage alive for current and future generations. In addition, as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has also demonstrated, living heritage can play an important role in ensuring the well-being and resilience of communities. UNESCO encourages countries to safeguard living heritage through formal and non-formal education. From the end of 2019 to early 2022, UNESCO has been working with partners to implement a pilot project “Teaching and Learning with Living Heritage in Schools” in six countries in Asia and the Pacific - including Cambodia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nepal, Republic of Korea and Thailand. Over 1900 students from 21 schools had the opportunity to participate in these innovative classes. Throughout the process, 86 teachers, with more than two thirds being women, have developed and tested 101 lesson plans and activities. This Resource Kit provides step-by-step guidance and key resources on why and how to integrate living heritage in lessons and extracurricular activities in schools. Whoever you are – policy-maker, school director, teacher, student, parent, heritage practitioner – you have a vital role to play in this process. 
A Pedagogical Guide on Global Citizenship Education in Korean Context Year of publication: 2015 Corporate author: APCEIU APCEIU has published a pedagogical guide on Global Citizenship Education (GCED) for Korean readers, which is the Korean adaptation of the UNESCO pedagogical guide, GCED: Topics and Learning Objectives (a.k.a. TLOs).Following the recently launched Korean translation of the TLOs, this Korean adaptation contextualizes the TLOs in Korean education, aligns its terminologies with Korean curriculum, and provides further explanations for Korean readers. This guide was developed by professors in the field of teacher education, primary and secondary school teachers, and curriculum developers with special expertise in GCED/EIU.It is hoped that this guide will help Korean educators and key stakeholders better understand GCED as a new pedagogy and also reflect on traditional teaching-learning experiences in various respects. 
Encountering Global Citizenship Education in Schools: Stories of School Teachers on GCED Year of publication: 2016 Corporate author: APCEIU Titled “Encountering Global Citizenship Education in Schools: Stories of School Teachers on GCED,” the book includes stories of 11 GCED Lead Teachers focusing on the practical implementation of GCED in real educational setting. Readers will be able to learn from the experiences of those teachers, who worked to implement GCED in the field of education. Moreover, this publication provides an opportunity for educators from small primary schools in rural areas to the high schools in big cities, to think about the implications associated with GCED and how GCED can be used for students from diverse backgrounds and various ages. Final Report: 2nd Youth Leadership Workshop on Global Citizenship Education Year of publication: 2016 Corporate author: APCEIU This report provides an overview of the activities carried out during the 2nd Youth Leadership Workshop on Global Citizenship Education (GCED) held in Busan, Republic of Korea, from 11 - 16 July 2016. As an APCEIU's 2nd youth workshop, this programme gathered 49 youth activists from 38 countries around the world to exchange their ideas and identify GCED leadership strategies in order to mobilize young people for GCED in local and national contexts and advance the agenda globally. This report also aims to convey the voice of the youth on GCED: their thoughts and reflections on GCED and its priority areas. The workshop was co-organized by APCEIU and UN Secretary General’s Global Education First Initiative (GEFI); it was sponsored by Busan University of Foreign Studies and the Geum-jeong District of Busan Metropolitan City. Final Report: 2016 UNESCO/KOICA Joint Fellowship Programme Year of publication: 2016 Corporate author: APCEIU This report provides an overview of the activities carried out during the 2016 UNESCO/KOICA Joint Fellowship Programme held in Republic of Korea from 1 September - 31 October, 2016.In its 10th year of implementation, UNESCO/KOICA Joint Fellowship Programme 2016 invited 25 educators from 17 countries in Africa and the Asia-Pacific region for two months; from September 1st to October 31st. The overarching goal of the Programme was to enhance the capacities of participating educators under the themes of “Teacher Training for Basic Education,” “Use of ICT for Education (or e-Learning),” “Leadership in Global Education” and “Girls’ Education.” Composed of various segments such as lectures, workshops, hands-on activities, and seminars, which were closely interlinked with each module, the modules were designed to enable the participants to reorient their perspectives on educational development, to gain essential knowledge and skills, and furthermore to produce meaningful and relevant outputs that could be widely applied in their local contexts.For more information, please contact APCEIU's Office of Education and Training at ent@unescoapceiu.org.
