Media and Information Literacy: Training Materials Year of publication: 2015 Corporate author: UNESCO This compendium contains the reports of four studies on religion and democracy conducted by the International Alert project "Constructive Dialogues on Religion and Democracy". The studies were carried out by young professionals trained in the framework of the project in 2017 and 2018. 
Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Racial Hatred and Racial Hate Crimes In the World (General Conference; 40th session) Year of publication: 2019 Corporate author: UNESCO At its 207th session, in decision 207 EX/Decision 49, the Executive Board decided to inscribe this item on the agenda of the 40th session of the General Conference. The document underscores that racial discrimination, incitement to racial hatred and racial hate crimes represent a threat for all peoples and the international community. With that in mind, the Director-General is requested to strengthen UNESCO’s substantive contribution to the fight against racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia, and related intolerance and to report to the Executive Board, at its 210th session, on the progress made in this matter.

Alongside positive developments, there also growing concerns about emerging and increasing threats to the integrity and credibility of elections, as well as the media's contribution to free, fair, transparent and peaceful electoral processes.This report highlights three converging trends in media and elections in digital times: the rise of disinformation, intensifying attacks on journalists, and disruptions linked to the use of information and communication technology in electoral arrangements. Offering possible responses to the challenges at hand, this study is a tool for governments, election practitioners, media organizations, journalists, civil society, the private sector, academia and individuals. 
Background Document: National Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Policies and Strategies in Albania; 2020-2021 Year of publication: 2021 Corporate author: Albanian Media Institute | European Union (EU) | UNESCO This background study was conducted in the framework of the project "Building trust in the media in Southeast Europe and Turkey, phase II" supported by UNESCO and the European Union and implemented by the Albanian Media Institute. The project, at this stage of implementation, aims to increase the skills of young people for media and information literacy (MIL) through the integration of the MIL curriculum in the formal education system in Albania. The implementation of the project started in June 2020 and will last until 2022. This document suggests objectives for MIL policies and strategy, which should be extended to formal education (university and pre-university level); in non-formal and informal education thus affecting all members of society with the aim of increasing the level of education on media and information in Albania.

Advancing Youth Rights: Participatory Approaches for Youth Policy Design Year of publication: 2019 Corporate author: UNESCO Inclusive and efficient youth policies are the cornerstone to building such environment. While no global binding framework exists, there is a growing international con¬sensus on principles for youth policy-making, rooted in the UN World Programme of Action for Youth adopted in 1995 and in the 1998 and 2019 Lisbon Declarations on Youth Policies and Programmes. Efficient youth policies require whole-of-society approaches to addressing youth issues, broad ownership and cross-sector engagement. They also necessitate meaningful engagement of youth in all their diversity – particularly those furthest behind: the most vulnerable and marginalized, the potentially or effectively radicalized, the ones engaging in violence and those suffering the scourge of conflict.

Changing Minds, Not the Climate: UNESCO Mobilizes to Address the Climate Crisis Year of publication: 2019 Corporate author: UNESCO The climate crisis is the challenge of the century. Scientific reports, including those of UNESCO, one after another describe increasingly pessimistic scenarios. All experts agree on one thing: we are in a race against time. A race to try to reserve our natural habitat in all of its beauty and diversity, to protect our ecosystems and natural resources and to pass them on to future generations. A race to mitigate the destructive effects of climate change and find the most appropriate innovative solutions.The disruptions caused by climate change are already part of our daily lives and trigger social, political, geopolitical and humanitarian upheavals. The climate crisis is not only threatening our ecosystems, it is also undermining fundamental rights, widening inequalities and creating new injustices. That is why ethical imperative must guide our action. Beyond the political and legal agreements essential to preparing for the future, change involves a shift in mindset, a different way of considering the place of humans in nature. This challenge mobilizes all resources, including education, research and creativity. It is an ethical and humanistic commitment. This is UNESCO’s mandate, and it is a matter of urgency.
