ESCAP) | Asian Development Bank (ADB) | United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) "UN and SDGs: A Handbook for Youth" is an outcome of ESCAP East and North-East Asia’s internship program that brings young people closer to the work of the United Nations, as well as to the achievement of the ambitious set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As young leaders of tomorrow, it is pivotal that youth are informed and engaged with the global vision for the future. Over the next fifteen years, youth will not only directly experience the outcome of SDGs and plans, but will also be the key driver for their successful implementation. For this reason, it is vital to raise awareness about the recently adopted 17 SDGs and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development among youth, build a platform for discussion, and create the conditions for active engagement. This Handbook explores SDGs and the 2030 Agenda from a youth perspective. In the first chapter, it introduces the concept of sustainable development and outlines its historical development through the transition from Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to SDGs. The second chapter discusses how youth can be harnessed as a major agent of change in achieving sustainable development, focusing on several pertinent youth issues in Asia and the Pacific. The final chapter introduces the UN system and its regional arm, ESCAP, explaining their role in the successful implementation of SDGs.

Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) | World Bank This report aims to assess the state of GCM implementation in the region, its progress and its challenges since the first Asia-Pacific Regional Review of Implementation of the Global Compact for Migration in 2021, in which a Chair’s summary was adopted. Chapters 2 to 5 each consider clusters of GCM objectives, as presented in General Assembly resolution 73/326 and following the same groupings as in the Asia-Pacific Migration Report (APMR) 2020. These chapters open with a summary of the discussions from the first regional review of the GCM, held in 2021, drawing from the Chair’s summary. Chapter 6 provides overarching recommendations to support and accelerate GCM implementation in Asia and the Pacific. At the end of the report are annexes with information on the GCM objectives and guiding principles, references to migration in Voluntary National Reviews to the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, and GCM pledges at the level of the State or City, Municipality and Local Authority.

ESCAP) | Asian Development Bank (ADB) | United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Accelerating progress: An empowered, inclusive and equal Asia and the Pacific responds to the theme of the 6th Asia Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development and the 2019 session of the high-level political forum on sustainable development.The report proposes a framework of four synergistic elements necessary to advance inclusion, empowerment and equality: rights and justice; norms and institutions; resources and capabilities; participation and voice. The need for action on all four fronts is illustrated by a deeper look at three pivotal challenges confronted by the region – (1) climate change and its potential to deepen inequality; (2) the urgent need to boost domestic resource mobilization; and (3) the need to strengthen social accountability and civic engagement. It draws out policy messages on how an empowerment-and-inclusion approach to policymaking can be fostered, including on addressing violence against women and girls. The report provides strong evidence that promoting empowerment and inclusion are necessary approaches to reduce inequality and accelerate progress towards a broad array of Sustainable Development Goals. It is a contribution to the ongoing national, regional and global dialogues on opportunities to empower people, ensure their inclusion and advance equality.The report is produced by the Asia-Pacific SDG partnership, comprising of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the Asian Development Bank, and the United Nations Development Programme. 
Regional Consultations of the National Human Rights Institutions of Central Asia: Conference Proceedings Year of publication: 2016 Corporate author: UN. OHCHR) | United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) For the first time, the conference became a platform for consultations of national human rights institutions (NHRIs) of Central Asia to help strengthen partnerships and provide opportunities for mutual support and exchange of expertise. Special attention the role of NHRIs in their interaction with the government and other partners in the country, as well as the role of NHRIs in terms of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Emerging Horizons: Youth Insights on Climate Change and Breakthrough Solutions; 2024 Leading Minds on Climate Action Year of publication: 2024 Corporate author: UNICEF Innocenti | United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) This paper shares insights from a participatory foresight workshop designed and facilitated by UNICEF Innocenti in the framework of the Youth4Climate: Sparking Solutions event co-hosted by UNDP and the Government of Italy. This convened 100 youth-led solutions in the areas of climate education, energy, food and agriculture, and urban sustainability. By using the Three Horizons foresight approach, a dialogue was created that delineated the patterns of change young people envisaged, their shared visions for the future, and the high potential innovations they felt could be leveraged to bring that future about. The paper identifies research and policy questions to be further explored by young climate leaders, UNDP, UNICEF, and their partners.

The ambition of this Situation Analysis is not merely to point at problems but to lay ground for solutions by identifying the opportunities and catalytic forces emerging today. The report looks at the necessary preconditions for realisation of human rights of persons with disabilities, particularly women, girls, and boys with disabilities, such as a robust equality and non-discrimination framework, availability of inclusive and accessible services in the community, disability inclusive financial and coordination mechanisms, transparent monitoring and accountability systems and meaningful participation of persons with disabilities. 
Gender and Recovery Toolkit: Advancing Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment in Crisis and Recovery Settings; Updated 2024 Year of publication: 2024 Corporate author: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) The Gender and Recovery toolkit is a practical resource in the hands of UNDP personnel to help government, civil society and other partners put gender equality at the core of immediate and long-term recovery processes. It shows how to incorporate gender perspectives and women’s participation throughout the recovery programme cycle – from assessment, strategic planning and framing of results to budgeting and implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.The toolkit emphasizes the need to address the root causes of gender inequality and fragility by transforming power dynamics. It advocates for approaches that go beyond increasing women’s representation, focusing on tackling masculinities and reshaping institutions, behaviors, and norms. It underscores the importance of holistic strategies to address the interconnected challenges of climate change, peacebuilding, and gender equality in crisis contexts, highlighting the role of technology and innovative programming in empowering women. The seven guidance notes and tip sheets incorporate recent updates to global policy frameworks with updated indicators and robust data sources. While primarily designed for UNDP practitioners, this resource is valuable for all partners in crisis and recovery settings.
