Fighting Racism and Discrimination: A UNESCO Toolkit Year of publication: 2023 Corporate author: UNESCO Globally, 1 in 5 people have experienced discrimination on at least one of the grounds prohibited under international human rights law. Despite action around the world to end hate and combat discrimination, our societies continue to struggle. Institutionalised and structural racism remains a significant challenge with societies only beginning to come to terms with the harsh realities of historical legacies of inequality. Regardless of the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement following the death of George Floyd and increased discussion, policies tackling the legacies of historical racism as well as contemporary racism remain limited. Arguments on the ethics of collecting racial and ethnicity data persist, making measurement of racism and discrimination all the more challenging and leading to difficulties in fully comprehending this issue. However, with impact ranging from education to housing to income to criminal justice, these issues cannot wait. Recognising the magnitude of this challenge and responding to the urgent call for action – the Global Call against Racism – by our Member States, UNESCO has developed the UNESCO Anti-Racism Toolkit. Within the pages of this guide, you will find core concepts, good practices from around the world, practical exercises, and more. A tool designed to support policy-makers in developing anti-racist legislation, it is a first step to tackling the historical and structural racism within our societies. 
3rd Global Forum Against Racism and Discrimination: Final Document Year of publication: 2024 Corporate author: UNESCO The third edition of the Global Forum against Racism and Discrimination with the theme “Race to the top: putting racial equity and justice at the forefront of development agendas” was held in São Paulo, Brazil, on 29 November 2023 and 1 December 2023. At the invitation of Brazil, in partnership with the Ford Foundation, the Open Society Foundations, the Mover Foundation, Instituto Ibirapitanga, the Global Forum highlighted the importance of placing racial issues at the core of development and implementation strategies, with a view to socioeconomic development. The Global Forum welcomed Ministers, high-ranking officials of national bodies responsible for combating discrimination and promoting equality, mayors of the International Coalition of Inclusive and Sustainable Cities - ICCAR, academics, scientists, civil society actors, NGOs, artists and digital influencers to share good practices, strengthen commitments and discuss effective strategies to combat racism and various forms of discriminations, including recommendations on how to proceed. The Global Forum’s agenda covered several topics, such as co-creating inclusive policies with impacted communities’ inputs; increasing awareness-raising on historical systems such as transatlantic enslavement to better comprehend and dismantle their contemporary legacies such as racism; progress towards gender equality; enhancing the capacities of civil society to be an agent of change; addressing artificial intelligence and its role in perpetuating racism; protecting the rights of indigenous peoples; establishing legal and policy frameworks prioritizing anti-racism and anti-discrimination on a local and global scale; strengthening the roles of cities, civic spaces, artistic and academic communities; enhancing the importance of informed data baseline on equality for governments; and promoting social philanthropy to address racial inequality. The 2023 edition was also marked by the launch of new initiatives. One of the main outcomes of the Global Forum is the establishment of the UNESCO Network of Anti-Racism and Anti-Discrimination Officials aiming to strengthen the development of innovative and inclusive policy solutions for peace, equity and non-discrimination. UNESCO has launched the new UNESCO Anti-Racism Toolkit, the Gender-Based Resilience Framework, the ‘Let’s Talk‘ project with Harvard University to combat prejudice against migrants, and the development of a new joint OECD-UNESCO briefing on combating discrimination against migrants. Volume X of the UNESCO General History of Africa, entitled Africa and its Diasporas, was also launched during the Global Forum. The publication offers a mapping of African diasporas throughout the world, valorizing their contributions to modern societies.

Podcast: Right to Education Against Hate Speech (SAME 2024) Year of publication: 2024 Corporate author: Global Campaign for Education (GCE) The Global Action Week for Education (GAE) 2024 has been the perfect setting for children and adolescents to contribute their voice and perspective to the issue of hate speech. Through awareness-raising and reflection workshops, children and adolescents have shared complex personal situations and cases of hate that they have witnessed, reproduced or experienced first-hand. Guided by their reflections, the participants designed a two-chapter podcast, where they addressed the issues that concern them most. This process not only allowed them to deepen their understanding of the normalization of hate speech and structural violence, but also to prepare for the production of the podcast, where they were able to express their thoughts and proposals in a creative and accessible way for a wider audience. 
Migrations and Displacements: Racism and Discrimination Year of publication: 2021 Corporate author: Argentina. Ministry of Education This video describes the phenomenon of migration within the framework of global citizenship. It was produced within the framework of the Seguimos Educando Program, which during 2020 and 2021 allowed, through different means, students to remain in contact with school. The proposed activities and content are guided by the Priority Learning Cores common to the entire country. 
School Coexistence Toolkit: Preventing Racism Corporate author: Ministry of Education of Colombia Xenophobia and racism are forms of intolerance and discrimination and, in both cases, are violations of human rights. These infographics address this social phenomenon and relational situation, extending the message and intention of the protocol on the same subject, which is why it constitutes a roadmap to respond from a comprehensive perspective to situations in which discrimination occurs due to ethnic and racial aspects or that promote exclusionary or stigmatizing acts against girls, boys, and adolescents because of their ethnic or racial affiliation. 
School Coexistence Toolkit: Prevention of Xenophobia Corporate author: Ministry of Education of Colombia The infographics guide the actions that should be developed in the school environment in the face of situations that incite or configure acts of xenophobia, exclusion or stigmatization against migrant girls, boys and adolescents. This message aims to have a positive impact on those who, beyond any nationality and any other migratory origin, should be welcomed and their rights guaranteed.
