Including Transformative Education in Pre-service Teacher Training: A Guide for Universities and Teacher Training Institutions in the Arab Region Year of publication: 2024 Author: Khalaf Al Abri | Marco Pasqualini Corporate author: UNESCO Beirut Transformative Education (TE), which includes concepts such as Global Citizenship Education (GCED) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), is an essential approach to provide learners with the tools to act for more just, peaceful and sustainable societies. Between 2021 and 2023, the experts of the UNESCO Arab Transformative Education Network identified the creation of a course on Transformative Education for teachers’ pre-service training as a key step to (i) provide teachers with the needed skills to promote Transformative Education as part of the national curriculum as well as though their daily teaching practices, and (ii) to support the reform of pedagogies more broadly, by making them more interactive and focused on critical thinking, and thus positively contributing to improving learners’ overall learning outcomes. This guidance document is addressed to all entities in charge of pre-service teacher training (e.g. departments of education within higher education institutions and teacher training institutions) in the Arab region interested in including Transformative Education as part of their programmes. The guidance document particularly supports faculty deans and academia in defining the scope and the key parameters to consider while developing a course on Transformative Education, including defining course objectives, format, content, and pedagogy, as well as choosing the right facilitator(s) to deliver the course. The document also provides useful references to other guides and tools which can further support the reflections around Transformative Education and how it can be concretely applied and promoted at the higher education level. 
Empowering Students for Just Societies: A Handbook to Teach Integrity in Secondary Schools Year of publication: 2024 Corporate author: UNESCO | UN. Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) The importance of education lies in its power to shape the values of upcoming generations and equip them with the knowledge to make informed decisions. Contemporary challenges, including corruption must be addressed through education, transparency, accountability and the rule of law, among other efforts. This joint publication by UNODC and UNESCO is a response to this important issue. It is aimed at educators who are striving to inspire and prepare future generations to actively contribute to societies grounded in integrity, ethics and respect for the rule of law. The handbook builds on the first two launched in 2019. This publication highlights the transformative power of education in strengthening the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary for addressing global challenges, especially those that stem from a lack of integrity, like corruption. It underlines the crucial role education plays in nurturing critical thinking, empathy, ethical behaviour, and a commitment to justice and equality among people. The handbook presents a catalogue of educational activities, lesson plans and outside the classroom resources designed to empower youth to reject corrupt practices and become agents of change, promoting integrity and upholding democratic values.

2023 Asia-Pacific Regional Global Citizenship Education (GCED): Network Activities Summary Report Year of publication: 2023 Author: Seek Ling Tan Corporate author: UNESCO Bangkok This is a summary report from the Global Citizenship Education (GCED) network activities in Asia-Pacific in 2023. The Asia-Pacific Regional Global Citizenship Education Network, spearheaded by UNESCO Bangkok and the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU), has illuminated the path to empower learners to become global citizens since its inception in 2018. In 2023, their journey was punctuated by significant milestones and a revitalized commitment to propel GCED across the region. This commitment is particularly evident in the key priority areas of advocacy, capacity building, learning/teaching materials, policy and research and the synergizing of regional collaboration towards Education 2030. 
2023 Asia-Pacific Training Workshop on EIU: Mentorship Programme Final Report Year of publication: 2023 Corporate author: APCEIU Asia-Pacific Training Workshop on EIU/GCED (APTW) is APCEIU's flagship Training of Trainers (TOT) programme for educators and teacher trainers in the Asia-Pacific region. Over the last 23 years, APCEIU benefitted more than 650 educators through the workshop. Especially, since 2021, the workshop has been carried out online training workshops, mentorship, and local project implementation to further support the participants to bring positive and sustainable changes in their local communities. In 2023, the 22nd APTW was virtually held from 30 May to 8 June with the theme of 'GCED as a Common Vision for Change.' 56 enthusiastic educators from 16 UNESCO member states in the Asia-Pacific region joined the programme. The workshop provided a venue to learn and discuss how GCED could contribute to transforming current education. This report summarizes 14 GCED projects implemented in the Asia-Pacific region by the 22nd APTW alumni who participated in the mentorship programme. 
Global Capacity-Building Workshop on GCED 2023: Follow-Up Activity Report Year of publication: 2023 Corporate author: APCEIU This report summarizes 15 GCED projects implemented by the selected mentees/grantees of APCElU's 8th Global Capacity-Building Workshop on GCED on 13-21 July 2023. The projects include teacher training workshops, curriculum development, school-based activities, and community development projects, undertaken by educators, teachers, and practitioners in Asia, Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. The mentees/grantees first participated in the 8th Global Capacity-Building Workshop on GCED in August 2023. After completing the Workshop, graduates submitted GCED proposals to be selected as grantees/mentees. The selected 15 mentees/grantees were matched with expert mentors who guided them in their project development and implementation. This report describes the summary of 15 projects held in different corners of the world along with their outputs.

Korea-Japan Teacher's Network on GCED 2023: Final Report Year of publication: 2023 Corporate author: APCEIU APCEIU launched the Korea-Japan Teachers’ Network on GCED in 2021, and since then, participating teachers from Japan and Korea have engaged in varied activities, including collaborative lesson plan development, online seminars, joint classroom projects, and student exchanges. In 2023, the first in-person training workshop was held in the Republic of Korea. Designed to deepen the understanding of GCED/peace education of participants, strengthen their capacities to foster global citizenship through education, share good practices and cases, and plan for future collaboration, the Workshop was attended by 33 Korean and Japanese teachers who have actively engaged in Network activities, including teacher-student exchange.

UNESCO Prize for Global Citizenship Education 2025 Laureates Year of publication: 2025 Corporate author: UNESCO The UNESCO Prize for Global Citizenship Education (GCED) provides an exceptional global platform to promote the visibility and recognition of projects and initiatives in the field of GCED from around the world.In its inaugural edition in 2025, the Prize honours a school project in the Amazon rainforest in Ecuador that guides children to become empathetic community leaders, and a youth-led non-governmental organization in the United Republic of Tanzania that involves youth nationwide in fora and festivals to promote peace and security.
