Transition to “Green Economy” in Uzbekistan: Opportunities and Challenges Year of publication: 2023 Author: Nodira Mukhammadkulova | Shakhrizoda Rakhimova Corporate author: Central Asian Bureau for Analytical Reporting (CABAR) Climate change issues and the crisis in the energy market have led to the development of technologies for the use of alternative, more environmentally friendly and possibly renewable resources, which are called “green” technologies. In Uzbekistan, the program of transition to a green economy and green growth until 2030 was adopted at the end of 2022. According to the program, by 2030, the share of renewable energy sources (RES) used will be about 30% of the country’s total electricity generation. The issue of awareness of the population as consumers about the relevance of diversification of energy consumption, advantages and disadvantages of alternative energy sources is relevant.

The hospitality and tourism sector is a cornerstone for the global economy, yet its substantial environmental footprint necessitates urgent innovation. Embracing the use of cuttingedge technology, such as AI-driven customer management and smart analysis of energy consumption, can help mitigate these impacts and foster green, sustainable solutions. As digitalization and sustainability redefine the industry, traditional job roles are undergoing continuous transformation, impacting the day-to-day tasks and activities of workers. The integration of emerging green and digital competencies into TVET is crucial for steering this transformation. By equipping workers with relevant qualifications and competencies, TVET holds the key to a greener and digitally driven sector. This publication proposes approaches to facilitate the dual transition in hospitality and tourism, structured around the identification of emerging green and digital competencies in a timely manner, their integration into future-oriented curricula, and their effective implementation in TVET. Drawing on practical examples from Africa, Asia-Pacific and Europe, it offers actionable recommendations for policymakers and practitioners. TVET stakeholders from across the globe are invited to embrace innovation and engage in the transfer of knowledge and good practices to unlock the sector’s potential for a green and digitally just transformation.
The Future of Green Transition in Uzbekistan Year of publication: 2023 Corporate author: UNDP Kazakhstan In support of the government, UNDP Uzbekistan applied participatory futures and foresight tools to explore possibilities for a Green Transition in Uzbekistan. The process produced a range of outputs, including a signals database, drivers, narrative scenarios, and a custom scenario exploration system. They were used to develop policy ideas, which outline innovative approaches.
