[Summary] Media and Information Literacy: The Time to Act is Now! Year of publication: 2021 Corporate author: UNESCO UNESCO has developed a comprehensive Curriculum which provides a framework for training teachers. But it is also a foundation that will also be of help to others: to learners, to content providers like internet companies and news media outlets, and to citizens of all ages as they consume, create and use content, including information.The second edition of the learning resource has been significantly expanded since the first publication in 2011. The MIL Curriculum reflects the changing nature of the information landscape. It now includes insight from a broader range of content providers than before, including libraries, archives, museums, media, and digital communications companies.The Curriculum is designed to empower educators and learners in general – from schoolteachers to those involved in training, the media and libraries, governments, and NGOs – to train people to spot misrepresentations and disinformation, and most importantly develop critical thinking competencies.

Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect This paper is part of a collection of discussion papers, commissioned and produced by UNESCO and the United Nations Office of the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide (OSAPG).The papers are a direct contribution to the United Nations Strategy and Plan of Action and are published in the context of the Multistakeholder Forum and Ministerial Conference on Addressing Hate Speech through Education in September and October 2021.The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the pertinence of the United Nations Strategy and Plan of Action, generating a wave of hate speech across the world –further exacerbating intolerance and discrimination towards particular groups and destabilizing societies and political systems. The discussion papers seek to unpack key issues related to this global challenge and propose possible responses and recommendations.

Operational Guidelines: Constructing UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Cities Year of publication: 2024 Corporate author: UNESCO To support the integration of media and information literacy in urban spaces, UNESCO is releasing operational guidelines for city governance stakeholders. These guidelines aim to help cities align their goals with the benefits of integrating MIL into physical and virtual spaces.The guidelines offer examples of actions for cities interested in pioneering the MIL Cities. Cities are encouraged to share their progress and achievements with UNESCO for future initiatives.All cities and municipalities can participate, regardless of size, internet penetration, or technology use. The guidelines aim to foster diverse partnerships at the municipal level for implementing MIL actions and programmes.
