Kindness: The Force That Will Help Us Achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (The Blue Dot Issue 11, 2020) Year of publication: 2020 Corporate author: Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) In the eleventh issue of The Blue Dot, we focus on ‘Kindness’ – as the force that will help us achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, towards making the world more peaceful and sustainable – a better place to live in the future for our children. The forum is aimed to the present the principles of the SDGs.  ESCWA Water Development Report 8: The Water-related Sustainable Development Goals in the Arab Region Year of publication: 2019 Corporate author: UN. Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UN. ESCWA) Water-related SDGs have a central role in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its interlinked Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets. While the dedicated goal on water (SDG6) aims to ensure availability and the sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, pursing this goal supports the achievement many other goals. Regional monitoring and reporting of the water-related SDGs thus supports a better understanding of water across the sustainable development agenda and provides insights on the progress and challenges facing the Arab region as it aims to achieve the SDGs and associated national targets under conditions of water scarcity and increasing water stress. This eighth issue of the Water Development Report of the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) examines the water-related SDGs from the perspective of water security and scarcity in the Arab region. It identifies ways to assess and address present and projected water scarcity at the regional and national levels for various climate change scenarios. It reviews regional and national water strategies and action plans coherency with global water-related goals and targets. The study analyses how the water-related SDG targets and indicators can guide the development of policy measures to tackle water challenges in the Arab region. Proposed policy interventions include measures to conserve and protect water resources and generate additional nonconventional water resources. The report also provides insights on institutional mechanisms in place for monitoring and implementing water-related SDGs at various scales.  First Voluntary National Review of the Sultanate of Oman 2019: United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development July 2019 Year of publication: 2019 Corporate author: Supreme Council for Planning | National Committee for the Achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals This voluntary national report reviews the Sultanate of Oman's progress in achieving the seventeen sustainable development goals. The report deals with the national strategies and plans that were specially developed to advance the achievement of development goals. The report also sheds light on national practices and initiatives and monitors the challenges facing the government in order to achieve the goals.  First National Voluntary Review on Sustainable Development Goals 2019: Iraq (The Triumph of National Will) Year of publication: 2019 Corporate author: Iraq. Ministry of Planning This national review is part of the first National Voluntary Report (NVR) as a national effort and a necessary step to monitor the progress toward the SDFs, using a participatory approach and assisted by national consultations (workshops and forums) organized in various Iraqi areas to discuss the development challenges facing Iraq in the upcoming stages. How is it assessed?  Access and Opportunity for All: How Libraries Contribute to the United Nations 2030 Agenda Year of publication: 2020 Corporate author: International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) The inclusion of libraries and access to information in national and regional development plans will contribute to meeting the global United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. In support of this goal, IFLA has published a booklet of examples and recommendations for policymakers demonstrating the contribution of libraries to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).The booklet includes stories from all types of libraries in many countries around the world. IFLA thanks all IFLA members and partners that contributed their stories for the booklet.  Guidelines for Implementing SEL in Schools Year of publication: 2022 Corporate author: Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) Schools that promote SEL help in their students’ academic and global learning. It enables learners to live peacefully with others in heterogeneous societies and build ‘tolerance’ and ethics in behaviour in terms of universal human traits that go beyond social, cultural and gender differences. SEL cultivates children’s wellbeing, and because schools are mirrors or microcosms of our larger and dynamic societies, it is vital that personal and social learning be mainstreamed in schools. The purpose of these guidelines is to share the latest research with policymakers, school leaders, and teachers looking to integrate SEL into school practices and present scientific evidence on creating school environments and recommending practices that are key to building peaceful and sustainable societies. Engineering for Sustainable Development: Delivering on the Sustainable Development Goals Year of publication: 2021 Corporate author: UNESCO | International Centre for Engineering Education (ICEE) The report highlights the crucial role of engineering in achieving each of the 17 SDGs. It shows how equal opportunities for all is key to ensuring an inclusive and gender balanced profession that can better respond to the shortage of engineers for implementing the SDGs. It provides a snapshot of the engineering innovations that are shaping our world, especially emerging technologies such as big data and AI, which are crucial for addressing the pressing challenges facing humankind and the planet. It analyses the transformation of engineering education and capacity-building at the dawn of the Fourth Industrial Revolution that will enable engineers to tackle the challenges ahead. It highlights the global effort needed to address the specific regional disparities, while summarizing the trends of engineering across the different regions of the world.By presenting case studies and approaches, as well as possible solutions, the report reveals why engineering is crucial for sustainable development and why the role of engineers is vital in addressing basic human needs such as alleviating poverty, supplying clean water and energy, responding to natural disasters, constructing resilient infrastructure, and bridging the development divide, among many other actions, leaving no one behind.It is hoped that the report will serve as a reference for governments, engineering organizations, academia and educational institutions, and industry to forge global partnerships and catalyse collaboration in engineering so as to deliver on the SDGs.
