Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development - United Nations General Assembly Year of publication: 2015 Corporate author: United Nations This plan represents a program of action for people and land and for prosperity. It is also aimed at promoting world peace in a more free atmosphere. We recognize that the eradication of poverty in all its forms and dimensions, including extreme poverty, is the world's greatest challenge and an indispensable condition for sustainable development. All countries and stakeholders will implement this plan within the framework of the cooperative partnership. We are determined to free mankind from the tyranny of poverty and want and to heal and preserve the wounds of our planet. We are determined to take the bold steps leading to the transformation that are urgently needed to move the world towards a path of sustainability and resilience. As we embark on this collective journey, we pledge that no one will be left behind. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the 169 targets that we will announce today demonstrate the breadth and ambition of this global agenda. The aim of these goals and objectives is to continue the process of the Millennium Development Goals and achieve what has not been achieved within the framework. They are also intended to realize human rights for all, achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. These are integral and indivisible goals and objectives that balance the three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social and environmental dimensions.

Research shows that girls in emergencies are disadvantaged at all stages of education and are more likely to be out-of-school than in non-emergency settings. Girls are also struggling to learn. This solutions book seeks to highlight promising evidence-based actions in education for decision makers who are designing and implementing interventions to support girls’ education in low and middle-income country humanitarian settings and settings where education has been interrupted by the COVID‑19 pandemic. It documents practical examples of approaches that have been or are being tested, and from which lessons can be drawn.

Prepared by more than 60 UN agencies, programmes and offices and other relevant international organizations, the report puts forward a set of policy recommendations for achieving tangible progress on financing for sustainable development in 2019 and beyond.The report warns that creating favorable conditions is becoming more challenging. Rapid changes in technology, geopolitics, and climate are remaking our economies and societies, and existing national and multilateral institutions -- which had helped lift billions out of poverty -- are now struggling to adapt. Global Environment Outlook 4 (GEO-4): Environment for Development Year of publication: 2007 Corporate author: United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) The fourth Global Environment Outlook – environment for development ( GEO-4 ) places sustainable development at the core of the assessment, particularly on issues dealing with intra- and intergenerational equity. The analyses include the need and usefulness of valuation of environmental goods and services, and the role of such services in enhancing development and human well-being, and minimizing human vulnerability to environmental change. The GEO-4 temporal baseline is 1987, the year in which the World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED) published its seminal report, Our Common Future . The Brundtland Commission was established in 1983, under UN General Assembly resolution 38/161 to look at critical environment and development challenges. It was established at a time of an unprecedented rise in pressures on the global environment, and when grave predictions about the human future were becoming commonplace.
