Global Citizenship Education and the Rise of Nationalist Perspectives: Reflections and Possible Ways Forward Year of publication: 2018 Corporate author: UNESCO | APCEIU Over the past few years, many have observed a rise in nationalist perspectives across the world. These trends raise questions about the role of education and, in particular, one of UNESCO’s key areas of work in the field of education, namely Global Citizenship Education (GCED), which seeks to equip learners with the skills, values and attitudes needed to contribute to the development of peaceful and just societies. This paper seeks to clarify the evidence of the rise of nationalist perspectives and its causes, and to lay out how GCED is challenged by this phenomenon. It recommends ways forward for education stakeholders in promoting GCED, in order to strengthen ‘learning to live together’ by embedding GCED meaningfully in local and country contexts. 
Peace the Best Way Year of publication: 2017 Corporate author: Lesotho Distance Teaching Centre (LDTC) The storybook titled “Peace, the Best Way (Ngoan’a Khotso Ha a Lebale Tsa Khotso)” is an end-product of Workshop in Lesotho on GCED: Teacher Training on Peace Education & GCED Learning Material Development held between 12 and 14 of July 2017. During the workshop, participants created learning materials on peace and conflict transformation based on what they have learned throughout the sessions.The authors share their stories of conflicts that they encounter in their everyday lives and further identify ways of managing and resolving the conflicts in a peaceful manner to let everyone live in harmony. They hope to instill the importance of peace not only to the adults reading the book, but also to the younger generation who learn from their parents and adults of the community.The book published in English as well as Sesotho, will be used as teaching and learning resources for learners and also be disseminated to public locations including schools, community centers and libraries.For more information on the Workshop, Please click here.

These works of art were selected from 274 entries submitted by artists in 117 countries worldwide to join SILENT MANGA AUDITION® Round 13 held under the theme Together for Peace, in collaboration with UNESCO Bangkok, the Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education. Silent manga is a powerful medium of communication in the Asia-Pacific. Although the region is the most diverse in the world, it can be enjoyed by anyone regardless of their background. Silent manga has no language barrier. These works showcase different reflections of peace as expressed by artists around the world while conforming to the Japanese manga style. 
UNESCO prize for peace education, 2008 Year of publication: 2009 Corporate author: UNESCO The UNESCO Prize for Peace Education 2008 was awarded to the Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (South Africa) by Mr Koïchiro Matsuura, Director-General of UNESCO, on the recommendation of the International Jury of the Prize. The prize-giving ceremony, organized as part of the celebrations of the International Day of Peace (21 September), the International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-Violence for the Children of the World (2001- 2010) and the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, was held at UNESCO Headquarters on 18 September 2008 in the presence of Mr Mohammed Arkoun, President of the International Jury, and H.E. Mr Javier Pérez de Cuéllar, member of the International Jury, former Prize laureates, Permanent Delegates of Member States and representatives of governmental and non-governmental organizations. The award ceremony was preceded by the screening of an excerpt from the documentary Truth, Justice, Memory: South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Process and by a video message from Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, winner of the 1984 Nobel Peace Prize for his role as a unifying leader in the campaign to resolve the problem of apartheid in South Africa, and former Chairperson of South Africa’s Truth and Reconciliation Commission 
Evidence on Inclusive Education in Kazakhstan based on a Formative and a Big Data Evaluation Year of publication: 2024 Author: Arseniy Gurin | Udayan Rathore | Zhanar Zhaxylykova Corporate author: UNICEF Kazakhstan The objective of the JB formative evaluation was to examine the functioning of the state education programmes between 2011 and 2021 with a special focus on inclusivity. This covered children from pre-school to secondary school levels. The Big data evaluation or Social Media Listening (SML) study focused on the same age group of children and aimed to further the understanding of different stakeholder perspectives, as expressed via social media and online news media outlets. The demography of Kazakhstan reflects that it is a relatively young country. Given that the youth are more inclined to using social media, this is an important source of discussions in the country, including those on inclusive education. 
Early Childhood Education in Tajikistan Year of publication: 2021 Corporate author: UNICEF Tajikistan Preschool education is the foundation of lifelong learning and development. The focus on preschool is essential. Access to quality early childhood education (ECE) services not only gives children better chances at success in school, but better learning outcomes in the future. It enhances the efficiency of the school system by reducing repetition and drop-out and improving achievement, especially among girls and marginalized groups. If timely and sufficient investments in early childhood are made, human capital and momentum will grow and provide a great and unique opportunity for the country to improve its future economic prospects.
