Connections that Matter: How the Quality of Governance Boosts Climate Action; A Systematic Scoping Review of the Literature Year of publication: 2024 Corporate author: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) | German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) This report reflects the findings of a systematic literature review jointly undertaken by the UNDP Global Policy Centre for Governance and the German Institute of Development and Sustainability. The report offers aggregated empirical insight from across the globe about how inclusive, effective and accountable governance systems produces positive effects on climate action. The report aims to galvanize development actors and stakeholders to invest in SDG 16 and the strengthening of governance systems, and to better identify pathways that raise the ambition and effectiveness of climate action. 
Developing Global Guidance for Child Rights Impact Assessments in Relation to the Digital Environment: Summary of Initial Project Findings Year of publication: 2024 Corporate author: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) | German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) The age of technology and the Internet have brought tremendous benefits, including for children. However, the spread of digital technologies also comes with a broad spectrum of risks and harms to which children can be particularly vulnerable. Under the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and the Children’s Rights and Business Principles, businesses have a responsibility to identify, assess, and address relevant human rights risks, including risks to children’s rights. With respect to the digital environment, a rapidly evolving landscape and the emergence of new technologies has changed the nature and severity of actual and potential child rights risks relating to business activities. In response, UNICEF has initiated a project to assess the current child rights impact assessment (CRIA) landscape in relation to digital business activities and develop new guidance to support robust implementation going forward. A summary of initial project findings is now available here. Further project outputs including the updated guidance (currently under development) are anticipated in late 2024.

All In: Towards Tangible Solutions for Equity and Inclusion in Education Year of publication: 2024 Corporate author: United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) All In: Towards Tangible Solutions for Equity and Inclusion in Education showcases promising practices that were successfully implemented to ensure that inclusive education really does include all children, so that the most marginalized learners – including children with disabilities, children who are out of school, children living in poverty, marginalized girls, and refugee children – have access to quality education. While many of the promising practices were initiated in response to the COVID-19 crisis, or draw upon the pandemic experience, they go beyond the immediate focus of pre- or post-COVID-19 education systems to an overall view of child well-being and the need to focus on skills for the 21st century. Many of these practices have the potential to be applied more widely within education systems and can be adapted and replicated by stakeholders in any context where innovative and inclusive approaches are needed to protect and promote children’s right to education. Ingenuity, flexibility and a commitment to true inclusion and forward-looking policies are the common thread of promising practices in this document. This publication is a complementary resource to the 2021 report: Reimagining Girls’ Education: Solutions to Keep Girls Learning in Emergencies. 
Education in a Post-COVID World: Towards a Rapid Transformation; Mission Recovering Education in Humanitarian Settings Brief Year of publication: 2023 Corporate author: United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Towards the goal of COVID-19 recovery for crisis-affected children, UNICEF has been implementing the Mission: Recovering Education in Humanitarian Settings programme in 27 countries and across all seven regional offices, with support from the United States government. This programme emerged from Mission: Recovering Education, globally launched in 2021 by UNICEF, UNESCO and the World Bank. To examine how these programme countries have progressed in recovering and accelerating learning through the five key policy actions in the RAPID framework, this brief presents findings from the 4th round of the Survey on National Education Responses to COVID-19 School Closures (‘joint survey’), administered between April to July 2022, and the Global Education Recovery Tracker (‘GERT’), administered between May to July 2022. These findings are a follow-up to the 1st round of RAPID data collected in March 2022. 
[Video] Global Citizenship Education for a just, peaceful, inclusive and sustainable world: a conceptual framework and its application in the field Year of publication: 2015 Corporate author: United Nations (UN) The Seminar held at UN HQs entitled, "Global Citizenship Education for a Just, Peaceful, Inclusive, and Sustainable world: A Conceptual Framework and its Application in the Field" was co-organized by the Permanent Missions of France, Nigeria, Qatar and the Republic of Korea, the United States Mission and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), in support of the Secretary-General’s Global Education First Initiative (GEFI).The panel discussion was moderated by H.E. Ambassador Hahn Choong‐hee of Korea. Some of the speakers for this event included H.E. Ambassador Richard Erdman, Acting Representative to ECOSOC of the Permanent Mission of the United States of America to the United Nations; H.E. Ambassador Usman Sarki, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United Nations; Yousef Laram, Deputy Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations; Mr. Francois Gave, Counsellor at the Permanent Mission of France to the United Nations; and Christopher Castle, Chief of UNESCO’s Section of Global Citizenship Education.This event was divided into two segments. In the first, GCED was discussed at the level of concept. How can it strengthen the three pillars of the United Nations and the three pillars of sustainable development in furtherance of a just, peaceful, inclusive and sustainable world. In the second, examples from the field – the local, national and international levels – were presented and discussed as were certain opportunities going forward including the important role of media.
