This toolkit is specifically focused on responding to white nationalist targeting and recruitment of students. 
Sexual and Gender-based Violence Prevention and Response In Refugee Situations in the Middle East and North Africa Year of publication: 2015 Corporate author: UN. Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) The Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is facing humanitarian crises and forced displacement on an unprecedented scale. These conflicts and the resulting displacement disproportionately burden women and children, who now comprise 78 per cent of Syrian refugees. Sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) is becoming increasingly widespread in these conflict-affected countries, and is often one of the causes of flight. In support for multi-sectorial and coordinated SGBV prevention and response, this report outlines strategies, in line with international standards, that UNHCR uses in coordination with national authorities, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other partners across the region, to bring tangible results in preventing and responding to SGBV in refugee situations, as well as in the inter-agency response in situations of internal displacement. 
Preventing Violent Extremism through Education: Effective Activities and Impact; Policy Brief Year of publication: 2018 Corporate author: UNESCO Since 2015, UNESCO has driven forward the importance of education in preventing violent extremism (PVE-E) in the framework of its efforts to advance Global Citizenship Education (GCED). Despite the growing number of PVE-E activities globally, there is a lack of evidence on their effectiveness and impact.This Policy Brief seeks to provide answers to two questions: (i) What types of PVE-E activities tend to be more effective in having impact? and (ii) What is the proven impact of PVE-E activities?The aim is to help education stakeholders undertake programmes with stronger positive impact and take evidenced-informed decisions on spending priorities.The Policy Brief shows that PVE-E does work, highlighting various kinds of activities proven to be particularly effective, and recommending ways forward to develop stronger evidence on what works and does not.

Strengthening the Rule of Law through Education: A Guide for Policymakers is intended for education policymakers and other professionals working in the formal education sector, within and outside Ministries of Education, and who are seeking to promote the rule of law and a culture of lawfulness.The guide may also be of interest to professionals working in non-formal education settings or other sectors – namely the justice, social and health sectors - in the area of crime and violence prevention, who are seeking to work more closely with the education sector. In particular, the guide offers:An explanation of key concepts, such as the rule of law and a culture of lawfulness, as well as outlining the role of education in upholding and promoting the rule of law; Guidance on how the education sector is able to strengthen and promote the rule of law, for instance, by speaking to the real learning needs of children and youth, and by ensuring that places of learning “practice what they preach”; A map of the necessary support systems needed to strengthen the rule of law at the school and classroom levels and outside formal education settings, including curricular support, classroom pedagogies, teacher training and development and school-family-community partnerships.

Preventing Violent Extremism through Sport: Technical Guide; Criminal Justice Handbook Series Year of publication: 2020 Corporate author: UN. Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) The Technical Guide on Preventing Violent Extremism through Sport, developed in consultation with international experts, recognizes the importance of promoting the well-being of children and youth. It applies an approach that encourages prosocial behaviour and good safeguarding and welfare practices, with particular emphasis on educational and social development measures in line with the United Nations Guidelines for the Prevention of Crime.The guide, addressed mainly to policy makers and implementing organizations, has been carefully designed to support effective integration of sport-based learning in primary prevention frameworks. By adopting a five-zone approach to prevent violent extremism namely safe space, empowerment, resilience, social inclusion and education, it supports informed policy development and a Theory of Change that can shape curriculum design and content. To further support global efforts in preventing violent extremism, UNODC is also developing an e-learning module and a practical tool for trainers that will be published soon and will complement this technical guide.
