Teaching Across Borders: A Guide to Follow-up Activities for APTE Alumni Teachers Year of publication: 2023 Corporate author: Korea R. Ministry of Education | APCEIU IntroductionLaunched in 2012, the Asia-Pacific Teacher Exchange for Global Education (APTE) marks its 10th anniversary this year with a solid record of steady growth. The Programme started with only two countries— Mongolia and the Philippines—and has since added five more: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, and Thailand. Even the COVID-19 pandemic has not impeded the APTE’s development and instead provided the basis for an online form of educational exchange. Over the past decade, more than 2,000 teachers in Korea and the partner countries participated in the APTE and guided numerous students. This was thanks to the unwavering support of teachers who sought dissemination of the value of Global Citizenship Education, a key element of UNESCO’s educational agenda. We express our deepest appreciation to the teachers and students who took part in the APTE. Human ties going beyond national borders are rare and precious. This project has tied many people around the world, with the teachers and students who participated continuing efforts to further consolidate their ties. To assist and facilitate teachers’ efforts toward follow-up activities after participating in the APTE, the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (APCEIU) under the auspices of UNESCO has released these guidelines on follow-up activities. Encouraging all teachers who are determined to continue Global Citizenship Education in the wider world, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to the writers and researchers for their dedication toward the publication of this book. We sincerely hope that these guidelines promote follow-up activities for international education exchange and its sustainability

The first was the joint publication by APCEIU and UNESCO(2021) titled Global citizenship education: a policymaking awareness and advocacy handbook.This latest handbook aims to raise awareness among teachers in the Asia-Pacific region on GCED and to equip teachers with knowledge about GCED, its importance and how to teach it, using good practices, to enhance learners’ competences at the classroom level, for society’s overall benefit.Recognizing that education policies, strategies and practices in the Asia-Pacific region reflect GCED in diverse ways, this handbook also seeks to provide a common regional understanding of what GCED is. Who can benefit from this handbook?The major beneficiaries of this handbook are teachers, educators and learners. Through explaining what GCED is and its outcomes, this handbook will enable teachers and educators to develop a deeper understanding of the benefits that GCED brings to learners. This handbook will also help teachers to themselves cultivate the necessary values, knowledge, skills and attitudes, and make the required behavioural changes, as one must become a responsible global citizen first in order to empower others to do so.As a practical guide, this handbook also supports teachers to integrate GCED into their teaching. The handbook provides examples of good practices, compiled from the Asia-Pacific region, that teachers can easily adapt for use in their classrooms to boost GCED values, knowledge, skills, attitudes and behavioural changes, among learners of all ages. Resources listed in the annex provide teachers with additional support.Policy-makers and school leaders can also benefit from this handbook; it serves as an additional reference to Global citizenship education: a policymaking awareness and advocacy handbook (APCEIU and UNESCO, 2021); to assist them in understanding what support teachers need in delivering GCED. This guide can also provide insights on how to foster resilience and rebuild education systems so that they are better equipped to deal with future crises.

2021 Study on the Monitoring Framework of GCED in South Korea Year of publication: 2021 Author: Hwanbo Park | Daehoon Jho | Kyunghee Park | Sungho Park | Jeongmin Eom Corporate author: APCEIU The purpose of this study is to establish a feasible monitoring system for the implementation of Global Citizenship Education (GCED) in South Korea that can both align itself with the global indicator (SDG 4.7.1) and reflect the domestic context and feasibility. To this end, the study continues to examine the extent to which GCED is mainstreamed in education policies in Korea by utilizing the monitoring tool developed by the aforementioned 2020 study. In so doing, it aims to build sustaining and robust data in the area of GCED policies with the consistent monitoring tool developed. Second, the study explores enabling aspects as well as gaps between policies or programmes and how GCED is implemented on the ground by schools and teachers. Through this analysis, the study draws implications for further refining of the developed monitoring system. Third, the study surveys and analyzes existing monitoring tools developed by other fields and the data accumulated through those existing tools to assess learners' knowledge acquisition, values, skills and attitudes relevant to global citizenship competences, In so doing, it explores possibilities and makes recommendations for effectively monitoring learners’ competences by utilizing and modifying existing tools as well as developing new ones. 
EIU Best Practices Series No.44: The Children’s Film Festival for Peace Year of publication: 2017 Corporate author: APCEIU This monograph is one of APCEIU's EIU Best Practices Series, which aims to encourage educators, scholars, and activists to implement and share local initiatives on EIU. The Series No. 44 introduces a project called “The Children’s Film Festival for Peace,” designed by a primary teacher in Indonesia to deliver EIU values to children in an easy and enjoyable way through an ICT class. The film themes which covered awareness on everyday social issues such as bullying, enabled students internalize the values of caring for others and sharing through acting, filming and creating. This exemplary project gives students a chance to bring their class learnings to life whilst spreading EIU values to their peers through their creations. 
EIU Best Practices Series No.45: Learning to Live Together through Literature and Critical Thinking: Encourage, Explore, Experience Year of publication: 2017 Corporate author: APCEIU This monograph is one of APCEIU's EIU Best Practices Series, which aims to encourage educators, scholars, and activists to implement and share local initiatives on EIU. The Series No. 45 introduces a programme called “Learning to Live Together through Literature and Critical Thinking: Encourage, Explore, Experience.” With critical thinking at its heart, students learn the concepts of GCED through the perspectives of literary masterpieces, diverse cultural traditions, and teambuilding activities. By guiding students through the 3 Es, this exemplary programme motivates and equips students to demonstrate their global citizenship by launching useful projects for the city community. 
EIU Best Practices Series No.46: Student Voice in Curriculum Development Year of publication: 2017 Corporate author: APCEIU This monograph is one of APCEIU's EIU Best Practices Series, which aims to encourage educators, scholars, and activists to implement and share local initiatives on EIU. The Series No. 46 introduces a programme called “Student Voice in Curriculum Development.” By giving students a voice as leaders, the programme reinforces students to take ownership of their own learning and growth particularly since leadership development is a life-long journey that extends beyond the students’ time in school. This exemplary programme brings teachers and students to work together on identifying what student leadership is and developing a complementary curriculum.

Road Map to Implement UNESCO’s ‘Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights and Sustainable Development’ in Asia-Pacific Year of publication: 2024 Corporate author: UNESCO Bangkok | APCEIU The Road Map is a product of the Regional Policy Dialogue and the Launch of the Recommendation on Education for Peace, Human Rights, and Sustainable Development (hereafter referred to as the 2023 Recommendation), held in Bangkok in June 2024.
