Fighting racism and discrimination: identifying and sharing good practices in the International Coalition of Cities Year of publication: 2012 Corporate author: UNESCO Since the establishment of the International Coalition, UNESCO has headed the regional scientific committees. In this role, UNESCO receives reports from cities in fulfilment of formal or informal requirements of their membership. These reports showcase the efforts of cities showcase the efforts of cities in addressing the Ten Point Plan of commitments for their respective region. UNESCO undertakes its efforts based on the information provided by the city in its report. First, it provides feedback to the cities on their efforts. The report identifies promising practices and highlights areas where additional work can be undertaken. Second, the reports from cities provide information that can be used for a variety of purposes including the publication of this report of good practices in anti-discrimination. The contents of this report reflect the information shared by Member Cities and as current Member Cities become increasingly active and new ones join the Coalition, the collection of good practices will undoubtedly expand.The purpose of this good practices report is two-fold. First, it draws together a collection of good practices in anti-discrimination of Member Cities so that they can inspire and inform the policies and practices of other cities. Second, the report uses major themes related to the different roles and domains of cities to inform and indeed, encourage critical reflection on anti-discrimination work in these areas. Several key objectives underlie the report:• Reflect on the different roles and capacities of cities and provide a framework to understand and assess their policies and practices;• Present, in one publication, examples of a wide variety of good practices; Provide a useful resource on anti-discrimination for stakeholders including city staff and representatives, community organisations, researchers, as well as interested individuals and groups; • Contribute to the successful networking of cities underway through the coalition;• Highlight the fact that even if there are challenges to engaging in anti-discrimination work, and that city representatives may feel limited, there are multiple actions that they can undertake.

The Series No.19 introduces the Pumulaan program, a successful culture-based education programme for indigenous children and youth in the Philippines. The program is similar to that of Tugdaan, a widely recognized education program that promote learning for the Indigenous people. The Pumulaan program focuses on providing culturally sensitive, appropriate, and relevant education to students in Mangyan Tribe in Mindoro and the Matigsalog Tribe in Mindanao, incorporating values of peace, harmony, and diversity within the education programs. 
EIU Best Practices Series No. 6: Practical Research on Current Issues: Studies on Global Perspectives in Schools in Japan Year of publication: 2007 Corporate author: APCEIU This monograph is one of APCEIU's EIU Best Practices Series, which aims to encourage educators, scholars, and activists to implement and share local initiatives on EIU. The Series No.6 is a research undertaken on two schools of Japan and Korea, in which students were tasked to conduct research on bilateral conflict issues and devise suggestions for peaceful resolution. Besides classroom discussions and presentations, student exchange visit further allowed active learning and engaging of issues, historical awareness and perception, and mutual understanding as global citizens. 
EIU Best Practices Series No. 7: Inculcating School Responsibility in Thai Youth: A Case Study on Sister Schools Project Network under UNESCO ASPNet Year of publication: 2007 Corporate author: APCEIU This monograph is one of APCEIU's EIU Best Practices Series, which aims to encourage educators, scholars, and activists to implement and share local initiatives on EIU. The Series No.7 is a case study of two Thai schools within the Sister Schools Project Network, which is under the UNESCO ASP NET and UNESCO Club. As schools visited other schools in the network, students became involved in fundraising to support one another, thereby naturally acquiring invaluable team building skills, intercultural understanding, and social responsibility. This case shows that sister school network system can foster values of sharing, caring, and loving, despite socio-economic disparity among students. 
EIU Best Practices Series No. 1: Schools for the Child: Child Sensitive Good Practices in Sri Lankan Schools Year of publication: 2006 Corporate author: APCEIU This monograph is one of APCEIU's EIU Best Practices Series, which aims to encourage educators, scholars, and activists to implement and share local initiatives on EIU. The Series No.1 is a research study undertaken to identify positive practices that can foster peace education in post-conflict communities of Sri Lanka. Specifically, three schools are observed to understand how the model of peace education and multiculturalism can be promoted through educator’s creativity, dedication, and vision, curriculum revision, eco-friendly school environment, and use of external and community resources. The study showcases that culturally sensitive and mindful pedagogical practices are needed to generate understanding of peace. 
EIU Best Practices Series No. 3: The Context of Education for a Culture of Peace in Vietnam General Education Schools Year of publication: 2006 Corporate author: APCEIU This monograph is one of APCEIU's EIU Best Practices Series, which aims to encourage educators, scholars, and activists to implement and share local initiatives on EIU. The Series No.3 introduces a research study conducted to examine Vietnam’ general educational schools for culture of peace education. Upon assessment of interviews and surveys undertaken by educators and students from five schools, the result indicated that education for culture of peace was practiced through both academics and extracurricular activities. 
EIU Best Practices Series No. 4: Implementation of Civic Approach for Development of Positive School Environment and a Culture of Peace Year of publication: 2006 Corporate author: APCEIU This monograph is one of APCEIU's EIU Best Practices Series, which aims to encourage educators, scholars, and activists to implement and share local initiatives on EIU. The Series No.4 is an experimental research conducted by the Information and Research Center to promote culture of peace and teaching and learning outcomes that support positive development of school environment. Three pilot schools in Kazakhstan were analyzed upon implementation of teacher training workshops, instructional materials, and programs in civic and human rights education.
