EIU Best Practices Series No. 39: Building School Capacity for Global Citizenship Education Year of publication: 2015 Corporate author: APCEIU This monograph is one of APCEIU's EIU Best Practices Series, which aims to encourage educators, scholars, and activists to implement and share local initiatives on EIU. The Series No.39 introduces the Training of Trainers (TOT) program, a workshop for teachers to better incorporate GCED/EIU concepts into respective curriculum and school environment. Upon participating in the APCEIU training workshop, Mr. Yeshi Dorji from Dungtse Middle Secondary School in Bhutan sought to create a forum in which teachers and school officials can learn to incorporate GCED. Such exemplary initiative not only enhances capacity building of educators in the school, but also has potential to have larger impact in the local and regional communities.
EIU Best Practices Series No. 40: Global Citizenship Education Capacity Building Initiative Year of publication: 2015 Author: Eretia Monite Corporate author: APCEIU This monograph is one of APCEIU's EIU Best Practices Series, which aims to encourage educators, scholars, and activists to implement and share local initiatives on EIU. The Series No. 40 introduces a successful hosting of workshop on GCED in Kiribati. Considered the first of its kind in Kiribati, the workshop brought together education officers and teachers to learn about emerging concept of GCED and EIU and means for implementation. The exemplary workshop involving fieldtrips and seminars has created a wave of learning opportunities for key stakeholders at all levels, paving way to put GCED into practice.
EIU Best Practices Series No. 20: Education for International Understanding through In-service Training: Uzbekistan Experience Year of publication: 2010 Author: Mukhamadjon Aliyev Corporate author: APCEIU This monograph is one of APCEIU's EIU Best Practices Series, which aims to encourage educators, scholars, and activists to implement and share local initiatives on EIU. The Series No.20 introduces EIU projects undertaken by the Avloni In-Service Teacher Training Institute in Uzbekistan. The programme integrates EIU concepts into the public education through in-service training programs, promotes EIU concepts in different subjects and projects, and broadcasts good practices in the field of global citizenship education nationwide. Although it is still in the process of improvement, the programme is expected to raise awareness of EIU and empower education managers, principals and teachers in Uzbekistan.

Through this initiative, UNESCO proposes to consider the role of education as a common good in 2050 and beyond. In other words, education is key to building a more sustainable planet and equal societies. In this report, Bridge 47 will focus on the role of education that is transformative and value-based to adapt and respond to the multiple challenges the world is currently facing. Bridge 47 considers as transformative any education that fosters global citizenship, sustainable development, human rights, equality, peace and cultural diversity, as captured in Target 4.7. of the Sustainable Development Goals.Bridge 47 sees education from a holistic perspective, ie. learning that is lifelong and extends beyond formal learning, and life-wide, that takes place in a multitude of contexts and environments. Formal, non-formal and informal learning all have a key role to play.
EIU Best Practices Series No. 21: EIU School-based Initiatives in Bhutan Year of publication: 2010 Author: Rinzin Wangmo Corporate author: APCEIU This monograph is one of APCEIU's EIU Best Practices Series, which aims to encourage educators, scholars, and activists to implement and share local initiatives on EIU. The Series No.21 introduces the case of Yonphula Lower Secondary School in Trashigang, Bhutan, which successfully incorporated EIU principles into the existing curriculum. With the Gross National Happiness (GNH) principle as Bhutan’s educational framework, EIU can fit easily to the academic settings and system. The case highlights activities, such as providing non-formal education for illiterate parents, and counseling services, health programs, and meditation programs to students, in exemplifying how innovative school activities can optimize the GNH framework for the promotion of EIU.

For this, a Tool Box has been designed, the objective of which is to strengthen the apprentices of the Workshop School as citizens who develop personal and social capacities to live healthily with others and generate harmonious environments, while proposing tools to serve as agents of change in society. At a general level, the Toolbox is made up of three large sections: the first contains the Implementation Manual, the second the Compendium of Activities and the third the Follow-up and Monitoring Manual.

The Remapping and Analysis of Human Rights and Peace Education in ASEAN/Southeast Asia Year of publication: 2019 Corporate author: Strengthening Human Rights and Peace Research/Education in ASEAN/Southeast Asia (SHAPE-SEA) | AUN Human Rights Education Network (AUN-HRE) This book is the result of SHAPE-SEA’s Research Project on “The Remapping and Analysis of Human Rights and Peace Education in ASEAN/Southeast Asia.” It is a follow-up to the 2013 report on “The Mapping and Analysis of Human Rights and Peace Education in Southeast Asia.” It aimed at establishing a systematic updating of developments in human rights and peace education/studies in ASEAN/Southeast Asia. The study investigated courses and programmes on human rights and peace & conflict being undertaken by higher education institutions in all ASEAN member countries and Timor Leste. It had also identified new developments and/or setbacks in human rights and peace education. Researchers located existing academic institutions that have been running programmes and courses on human rights and/or peace. The analysis of existing course syllabi and curriculum in the region was also conducted. To a certain extent, materials being used by instructors were also examined.
