The heart of education: learning to live together; selected papers presented at the 16th UNESCO-APEID international conference Year of publication: 2014 Corporate author: UNESCO Office Bangkok and Regional Bureau for Education in Asia and the Pacific To help frame current thinking on education in a changing world, UNESCO Bangkok, the Ministry of Education in Thailand, the Asian-Pacific Network for International Education and Values (APNIEVE), Pearson Thailand and J.P. Morgan co-organized the 16th UNESCO-APEID International Conference, The Heart of Education: Learning to Live Together in November 2012 in Bangkok, Thailand. The Conference provided a forum for participants to share their knowledge and experiences, raise critical questions, provide constructive feedback and, most of all, express their commitment to imbue and translate the essence of learning to live together in their respective educational efforts. This report contains selected papers presented at the Conference to reflect the linkages between learning and social development, showcase approaches and tools, and identify enabling policies and instruments to promote learning to live together. Astrolabe: a guide to education for sustainable development coordination in Asia and the Pacific Year of publication: 2011 Corporate author: UNESCO Office Bangkok and Regional Bureau for Education in Asia and the Pacific An astrolabe is an ancient instrument used to measure the position of the sun and stars. In the past it was used for a number of purposes, such as determining the time of day or night and measuring one’s current position in relation to the north and south poles. A mariner’s astrolabe was used to determine the latitude of a ship at sea and guide its direction. Similar to the mariner’s astrolabe, the Asia-Pacific Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Astrolabe aims to assist UNESCO Member States in determining the current position of ESD in their country and guiding education and learning in a desired direction, so as to support the advancement of sustainable development in the national context. The ESD Astrolabe is also intended to complement ongoing efforts to enhance the quality of education throughout the Asia-Pacific region. 
Review of implementation of comprehensive sexuality education in Thailand Year of publication: 2017 Corporate author: Ministry of Education, Thailand, UNICEF, UNESCO Bangkok | UNESCO Bangkok This review of comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) in Thai educational institutions collected data from students, teachers, guardians, school directors and national policy advocacy stakeholders. Standard international data collection tools were used, with the hope that important information could be gathered to guide the development of school-based CSE implementation in Thailand. The review aims to increase understanding about how CSE is being implemented in Thai general secondary schools and vocational colleges and to examine the values and attitudes of teachers, school directors, students, and parents on sexuality and sexuality education. It also analyses policies relevant to current national strategies of CSE implementation and documents successes and gaps in the current provision of CSE in the country. The report, prepared by the Ministry of Education, Thailand, and UNICEF, with inputs from UNESCO Bangkok, is available in English and in Thai. 
Asia-Pacific Migration Report 2024: Assessing Implementation of the Global Compact for Migration Year of publication: 2024 Corporate author: UN. Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) | World Bank This report aims to assess the state of GCM implementation in the region, its progress and its challenges since the first Asia-Pacific Regional Review of Implementation of the Global Compact for Migration in 2021, in which a Chair’s summary was adopted. Chapters 2 to 5 each consider clusters of GCM objectives, as presented in General Assembly resolution 73/326 and following the same groupings as in the Asia-Pacific Migration Report (APMR) 2020. These chapters open with a summary of the discussions from the first regional review of the GCM, held in 2021, drawing from the Chair’s summary. Chapter 6 provides overarching recommendations to support and accelerate GCM implementation in Asia and the Pacific. At the end of the report are annexes with information on the GCM objectives and guiding principles, references to migration in Voluntary National Reviews to the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, and GCM pledges at the level of the State or City, Municipality and Local Authority. 
Regional Capacity Development Resource Book on Monitoring SDG4-Education 2030 in Asia-Pacific Year of publication: 2019 Corporate author: UNESCO Bangkok | UNICEF East Asia and the Pacific The Education 2030 Agenda calls for robust monitoring, reporting, and evaluating indicators from Early Childhood Education (ECE) to adult education. The new agenda demands clear indicators and measurement to generate evidence-based international discourses and advocacy. Ensuring availability of education data and statistics for evidence based policy making and planning is also crucial. Countries’ capacity to respond to these demands will depend on quality mechanism for monitoring in place and technical capacity of data providers and users. The modules included in the this Regional Capacity Development Resource Book on Monitoring SDG 4-Education 2030 in Asia Pacific covers various topics that are relevant to building an effective national monitoring system, such as the creation of a national indicator framework and the development of national strategies for education statistics; strengthening the administrative data production system; and increasing the household survey application in monitoring education at the national level, as well as reporting at the global level.

It analyses the regional context, challenges and opportunities, and provides policy recommendations through the lens of the overarching themes of equity and inclusion, while also considering the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. 
Equitable Education: 30 Years from Education for All to All for Education 2030 Year of publication: 2020 Author: Juan Miguel Luz Corporate author: Equitable Education Fund In the 30 years since the World Declaration on Education for All (Jomtien Declaration, Thailand), the world has made enormous strides in achieving the target of universal primary education.Total enrolment rates in developing regions reached 91 percent in 2015 and the worldwide number of children out of school has dropped by almost half. However, large disparities remain. Children from the poorest households are up to five times more likely to be out of school than those of the richest households. Disparities between rural and urban areas also remain high.As education inequality threatens to widen because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and with only 10 years to go to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), now, more than ever, is the time for the world to come together and accelerate change through innovative and sustainable solutions. 
UNESCO 2018 Asia-Pacific Youth Evaluation Report Year of publication: 2020 Author: Rebecca Barr | Sue Vize Corporate author: UNESCO Bangkok In March 2019 UNESCO conducted the first ever “youth evaluation” of the youth programmes implemented during 2018. This evaluation is a pilot for integrating youth-led evaluation as part of UNESCO’s programming cycle as part of our commitment to meaningfully engaging with youth.This evaluation was developed by UNESCO staff in partnership with youth who have been involved in UNESCO’s work in a variety of ways. It consists of three parts: an online survey, focus group discussions and stories written by young people about their experiences being part of a UNESCO project. 
Asia and the Pacific: SDG Progress Report 2021 Year of publication: 2021 Corporate author: UN ESCAP This report analyses progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Asia and the Pacific and its five subregions as well as the availability of data.
