By reducing health-related barriers to learning, such as malnutrition, early and unintended pregnancy, HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and violence and discrimination, UNESCO, governments and school systems can unlock the potential of all learners. The evidence for increased focus on the link between education and health is strong. Education strongly impacts health outcomes and health is equally fundamental to education. This calls for a more comprehensive approach to school health and more coordinated action across sectors. This revised and updated strategy is a roadmap for UNESCO to promote comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) and safe and inclusive learning environments, and place more emphasis on the role of schools and education systems in promoting health and well-being.   Berlin Declaration on Education for Sustainable Development Año de publicación: 2022 Autor corporativo: 유네스코 In light of the dramatic challenges the world is facing today there is urgent need to transform learning and redesign our societies for the survival of our planet. Berlin Declaration on Education for Sustainable Development; Learn for Our Planet: Act for Sustainability Año de publicación: 2022 Autor corporativo: UNESCO From 17 May to 19 May 2021 around 2800 people – politicians, business people, youth leaders, scientists, Non-governmental organizations, and many more - from 160 countries came together virtually at the UNESCO World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) 2021. During the conference, they expressed their commitment to use the transformative power of education in order to address the global challenges we face. It provides recommendations that governments, online platforms, educators and researchers can implement to counter denial and distortion, prevent antisemitism and uphold human rights. This report aims to provide a wide-ranging assessment of the extent to which Holocaust-related content on social media and online platforms denies its factual basis or distorts the Holocaust by minimizing or misrepresenting its history. The report seeks to identify content that has evaded content moderation (on platforms that seek to remove content which denies and distorts the Holocaust). Perhaps more importantly, it also aims to provide an understanding of how denial and distortion about the Holocaust are communicated by people on online platforms.  Non-state Actors in Tertiary Education: A Shared Vision for Quality and Affordability? (Policy Paper 47) Año de publicación: 2022 Autor corporativo: UNESCO Non-state provision accounts for more than one third of tertiary education students worldwide, a considerably higher share than in primary or secondary education. Providers are diverse, respond to a variety of needs, and often blur the line between the state and non-state sectors. Non-state actors are also important players in the financing of tertiary education through households, market mechanisms and public–private partnerships. As a result, these actors play a significant role in influencing regulations and policymaking, and in shaping the tertiary system as a whole. Governments must ensure quality and equity, the key dimensions of Sustainable Development Goal target 4.3, regardless of how state and non-state actors share responsibilities.   Revised Recommendation Concerning Education for International Understanding, Co-operation and Peace and Education Relating to Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms ('1974 Recommendation') Año de publicación: 2022 Autor corporativo: UNESCO The revision of the 1974 Recommendation provides the international community with the opportunity to strengthen the instrument so that it can support the design and implementation of effective educational policies and programmes, which can put the world on a pathway to lasting peace and sustainable development for all, in line with the requirements of the 2030 Agenda and the body of international legal norms adopted since 1974. Closing the Gap: Ensuring There Are Enough Qualified and Supported Teachers in Sub-Saharan Africa Año de publicación: 2021 Autor corporativo: International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030 | UNESCO The fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 4) aims to ensure better learning opportunities and outcomes and more equitable and inclusive education for all. SDG target 4.c calls for an increase in the supply of qualified teachers, particularly in low-income countries. To achieve this ambitious target, the international community needs to pay renewed attention to teacher support and preparation. This advocacy brief considers what it will take to increase the supply of qualified teachers in sub-Saharan Africa, the region where the teacher shortage is most acute. It analyses the causes for teacher shortages, looks at trends affecting the region and describes the scale of the shortages. It examines the fiscal pressures on low-income countries to cover salary costs and the costs of initial teacher education and continuing professional development, and it proposes some recommendations for governments and the international community to achieve the essential target of substantially increasing the supply of well qualified teachers.
