Implementation and enforcement of laws (Принятие и обеспечение соблюдения нормативных актов); Norms and values (Нормы и ценности); Safe environments (Создание безопасной среды); Parent and caregiver support (Поддержка родителей и воспитателей); Income and economic strengthening (Повышение доходов и улучшение экономического положения); Response and support services (Ответные меры и оказание поддержки); Education and life skills (Обучение и формирование жизненных навыков). Securitisation, Counterterrorism and the Silencing of Dissent: The Educational Implications of Prevent Año de publicación: 2016 Autor: Aislinn O'Donnell Autor corporativo: Society for Educational Studies | Taylor & Francis This paper outlines some of the implications of counterterrorist legislation, including Prevent, for the pedagogical relationship and for educational institutions. The concept of ‘radicalization’, central to the Prevent Strategy, is one that is contested in the field of counterterrorism, yet educators are now expected to identify and refer students ‘at risk of radicalization’. Based on the experience of teaching IRA and INLA prisoners in the Republic of Ireland, the author outlines a set of philosophical and ethical principles that ought to underpin education. It is argued that education must not be subordinated to security and intelligence agendas on pragmatic, educational and ethical grounds. Education & Extremism: Waging Peace in the Classroom (The Blue Dot Issue 4, 2016) Año de publicación: 2016 Autor corporativo: Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) In this fourth issue of The Blue Dot, we have decided to focus on education as a tool for both preventing violent extremism and—sometimes—even propagating extremist ideologies. This issue reflects UNESCO MGIEP’s commitment to advancing the fundamental role of education as a means to changing mindsets and, ultimately, bringing about more peaceful societies. From an interview with award-winning social entrepreneur Prof. Sugata Mitra on the role of technology in revolutionizing education, to a foreword by Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the UN’s response to violent extremism, our contributors come from a host of different countries and backgrounds. What brings them together, however, is a call for changing current education systems. This is espoused even more clearly in a piece by Prof. K.P. Mohanan, who uses inquiry-driven approaches to prompt youth to question blind faith in any form of ideology or indoctrination. In this issue we also discuss UNESCO MGIEP’s activities in raising awareness of the strong link between education and radicalization and violent extremism, including our flagship Talking Across Generations (TAG) event which brought together policymakers and young people in an open discussion in Delhi this February. The outcome was a statement calling for greater inclusiveness and more space for young people to shape the policies that ultimately affect them.Just like our events, The Blue Dot is a platform for individuals from different backgrounds and walks of life who might have divergent ideologies, beliefs, and values, all of which may have prevented them from coming together to debate some of the most pressing issues of our time—including the global concern surrounding the rise in violent extremism. When individuals feel free to discuss, share ideas and question their beliefs, they can begin to think creatively and critically about the world and their surrounding environment. The challenge is to avoid lecturing or preaching to young people, but to provide youth with a safe space to discuss contentious issues in an open, inclusive and transparent manner. An open dialogue on violent extremism is a step towards providing young people with opportunities to ask questions and to reflect on their own beliefs, assumptions, and values, including animosities, prejudices, hatred and intolerance. At UNESCO MGIEP we believe that individuals who feel connected to others across political, religious or cultural divides also share a sense of responsibility for the world in which they live. All Together Now!: A Whole School Approach to Anti-bullying Practice Año de publicación: 2010 Autor corporativo: Save the Children All Together Now! provides learning and examples of good practice for teachers and school management teams, in order to encourage a culture in which bullying is less likely to occur. In particular, this report recognises the benefits of two strategies to instil an anti-bullying culture within any school. First, it describes a whole school approach to tackling bullying and promoting positive behaviour, with children and young people participating in their school’s decision-making processes. Positive changes in school anti-bullying policy, together with the ongoing development of better professional practice and peer support, are more likely if everyone connected to the school is informed and offered the opportunity to play a part. Second, All Together Now! demonstrates how creating an effective anti-bullying ethos is dependent upon creating a ‘telling environment’. To achieve this, pupils, staff, and parents and carers need to be consulted and involved. Global Security, Religion and Education Development: a Crisis for the Field of Comparative Education? Año de publicación: 2011 Autor: Yusuf Sayed | Lynn Davies | Mike Hardy | Abbas Madandar Arani | Lida Kakia | Masooda Bano Autor corporativo: Taylor & Francis Building common ground on shared values should be a high priority for a diverse and devout society in an era of religious conflict. Otherwise we might fall into the equally false and far more dangerous illusion that we agree on nothing at all – and perhaps we tend to assume that education helps to do this, which is not necessarily the case. There is a greater concern that education is not just failing to step up effectively to the task of contesting undifferentiated and negative views of religions, but that it might not always be a force for good at all. It may in some cases help reinforce difference and create the conditions for conflict. The relationship, therefore, between religious difference, security and the assumed supportive role of education is far from a simple one. Global security, religion and education development: a crisis for the field of comparative education? Resilience, violent extremism and religious education Año de publicación: 2013 Autor: Joyce Miller This article is an attempt to provide an educational justification for the British Government-funded project REsilience, on addressing contentious issues through religious education (RE), which was carried out by the RE Council of England and Wales. A number of issues relating to the inclusion of religiously inspired violent extremism in the curriculum are raised – definitional, political and educational. Addressing Anti-semitism through Education: Guidelines for Policymakers Año de publicación: 2018 Autor corporativo: OSCE. Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) A new UNESCO and OSCE co-publication takes up the challenge of educating learners to resist contemporary anti-Semitism at a time when the issue is becoming ever more crucial around the world. It suggests concrete ways to address anti-Semitism, counter prejudice and promote tolerance through education, by designing programmes based on a human rights framework, global citizenship education, inclusiveness and gender equality. It also provides policymakers with tools and guidance to ensure that education systems build the resilience of young people to anti-Semitic ideas and ideologies, violent extremism and all forms of intolerance and discrimination, through critical thinking and respect for others.
