Peace the Best Way Año de publicación: 2017 Autor corporativo: Lesotho Distance Teaching Centre (LDTC) The storybook titled “Peace, the Best Way (Ngoan’a Khotso Ha a Lebale Tsa Khotso)” is an end-product of Workshop in Lesotho on GCED: Teacher Training on Peace Education & GCED Learning Material Development held between 12 and 14 of July 2017. During the workshop, participants created learning materials on peace and conflict transformation based on what they have learned throughout the sessions.The authors share their stories of conflicts that they encounter in their everyday lives and further identify ways of managing and resolving the conflicts in a peaceful manner to let everyone live in harmony. They hope to instill the importance of peace not only to the adults reading the book, but also to the younger generation who learn from their parents and adults of the community.The book published in English as well as Sesotho, will be used as teaching and learning resources for learners and also be disseminated to public locations including schools, community centers and libraries.For more information on the Workshop, Please click here.

Podemos en realidad estar lejos de los lugares donde el genocidio contra el pueblo judío fue perpetrado, pero también América Latina está todavía haciéndose cargo de su propio pasado de violencia y crímenes contra la humanidad. Con esta publicación, los educadores latinoamericanos van a tener al alcance de la mano un recuento actualizado de los temas más destacados que se discuten sobre pedagogía y construcción de políticas. También podrán explorar cómo, todavía hoy en Europa, la educación sobre el Holocausto da forma a una cultura de la memoria. Por otra parte, pueden ver cómo en otros lugares la memoria del Holocausto puede ser un punto de partida para relacionarse con otros pasados difíciles. La UNESCO está convencida de que la prevención del genocidio comienza en la escuela. En un mundo en donde la violencia masiva es posible, esta publicación mostrará lo importante de enseñar a los jóvenes sobre el Holocausto y sobre otros genocidios en la historia. Es una condición para prevenir que crímenes similares sucedan en el futuro.

Service learning is an activity that combines community service and curricular learning. It is an educational setup in which a circular link is formed between participation in services created to meet a community need and the learning of knowledge and values. The project presents an initiative for education in values and citizenship based on experience, participation and critique. Service learning is at the same time an excellent instrument for making education more inclusive and for helping students develop a set of basic skills that can only be acquired through a comprehensive, contextualized activity. Through service learning, students acquire a real, committed engagement with the search for the common good; this acquisition of commitment is a key formative mechanism in achieving a complete education for citizenship. The article begins by analyzing the different elements that make up citizenship education and the pedagogical means required for their acquisition. The concepts of ‘practice’ and ‘citizenship practice’ are the basis for proposing service learning as an ideal methodology for educating participative citizens who can contribute to the common good. The rest of the article is devoted to analyzing each of the constitutive aspects of service learning. This portion of the article begins by presenting a more-precise definition of ‘service learning’ and continues with an analysis of the components of service learning: social needs, the learning of contents and competences, community service, partnerships between institutions and the required networking. The article concludes by reviewing the different levels at which service learning has an impact and identifying and organizing the various personal acquisitions and institutional achievements that this type of educational activity provides. El aprendizaje- servicio es una actividad que combina el servicio a la comunidad con el aprendizaje curricular. Es una propuesta educativa que vincula de una manera circular la participación en servicios pensados para satisfacer alguna necesidad de la comunidad y el aprendizaje de conocimientos y valores. Con ella, la educación en valores se pone en práctica de una manera participativa y crítica. Al mismo tiempo, también es un buen instrumento para hacer una educación más inclusiva y para desarrollar un conjunto de competencias básicas que solo pueden adquirirse a través de un trabajo global y contextualizado. Incorporar la intervención real y comprometida de los educandos en la búsqueda del bien común es un mecanismo formativo imprescindible para lograr una completa Educación para la Ciudadanía. Para lograr este objetivo, el escrito empieza analizando los distintos aprendizajes que supone la Educación para la Ciudadanía, así como los medios pedagógicos para alcanzarlos. Los conceptos de práctica y de práctica de ciudadanía permiten proponer el aprendizaje-servicio como una metodología idónea para lograr la formación de una ciudadanía participativa y capaz de contribuir al bien común. A continuación, se analizan los aspectos constitutivos del aprendizaje-servicio. Se presenta primero una aproximación más exacta a su definición y luego se desglosan sus componentes: las necesidades sociales, el aprendizaje de contenidos y competencias, el servicio a la comunidad, el partenariado entre instituciones y el trabajo en red que requiere. Al final del artículo se muestran los distintos niveles en los que impacta el aprendizaje-servicio, y se señalan y ordenan las distintas adquisiciones personales y logros institucionales que proporciona este tipo de actividad educativa.

We can actually be away from the places where the genocide against the Jewish people was perpetrated, but Latin America is still taking charge of its own past of violence and crimes against humanity. With this publication, Latin American educators will have at their fingertips an updated account of the most outstanding topics that are discussed on pedagogy and policy making. You can also explore how, even today in Europe, education about the Holocaust shapes a culture of memory. On the other hand, you can see how in other places the memory of the Holocaust can be a starting point to relate to other difficult pasts. UNESCO is convinced that the prevention of genocide begins at school. In a world where mass violence is possible, this publication will show the importance of teaching young people about the Holocaust and about other genocides in history. It is a condition to prevent similar crimes from happening in the future.

In this sense it is proposed the game as a possible didactic resource that can offer spaces of educational inclusion of the different facets of the human being that demand good living demands as long as the constitutionally conceptualized the right to education in the holistic formation of the human being, the formation of consciousness, the identifycation of the ego as a barrier to dialogue and the possibilities of interculturality, humility through self-criticism among others. This paper aims to present a reflection and an idea about the game as a playful strategy in the learning of inclusive practices as well as justify the promotion as Formative medium of an educative culture of sumak kawsay. 
Rethinking Schooling for the 21st Century: The State of Education for Peace, Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship in Asia Año de publicación: 2017 Autor corporativo: Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) Calls to gear up schools for the 21st century are ubiquitous today. Dominant international educational discourse hails the potential of 'the youth dividend' and digital technology for enhancing growth. Some Asian education systems are held up as models for an innovation-led utopian future. But across much of Asia, neither the reality of schooling nor the patterns of development with which it is associated give cause for blithe optimism.This study is informed by UNESCO’s commitment to realising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through educational reform worldwide. Since its inception, UNESCO has championed a humanistic vision of education — a vision today encapsulated in SDG 4.7. These ideals need to be strongly restated and defended in an era when educational debate worldwide has come to be framed by a narrowly economistic and instrumentalist agenda.Deriving urgent significance from this broader context, the present report analyses how far the ideals of SDG 4.7 – of 'education for peace, sustainable development and global citizenship' - are embodied in policies and curricula across 22 Asian societies. At one level, it seeks to develop benchmarks against which future progress can be assessed. It also argues forcefully that conceptions of the fundamental purposes of schooling need to be reconfigured, if the ideals to which the global community has subscribed are actually to be realised. Переосмысление школьного обучения ДЛЯ XXI ВЕКА Состояние образования ради мира, устойчивого развития и глобальной гражданственности в Азии Año de publicación: 2017 Autor corporativo: Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP) В публикации «Переосмысление школьного образования в XXI веке: состояние образования в интересах мира, устойчивого развития и в духе глобальной гражданственности в Азии» Института ЮНЕСКО Махатмы Ганди по образованию в интересах мира и устойчивого развития (МГИЭП) обсуждается о необходимости изменения фундаментальных целей школьного образования, включая идеалы образования в интересах устойчивого развития, в духе глобальной гражданственности и мира и (ЦУР 4.7). Кроме того, в исследовании рассматривается разработка сравнительных показателей – так называемые «бенчмарки», позволяющие оценить будущий прогресс в этой области.В этом отчете приняли участие более 60 исследователей из 22 стран Азии и он также основан на анализе ключевой образовательной политики и образовательных стандартов этих стран. Отчет также включает обширный обзор литературы по школьному образованию в Азии. В шестой главе публикации можно найти анализ текущего состояния и вопросов, стоящих по внедрению образования в интересах мира, устойчивого развития и в духе глобальной гражданственности в различных субрегионах Азии, включая Центральной Азии. Во-первых, глава раскрывает реформы в школьном образовании в постсоветской Центральной Азии, которые проводились в целях удовлетворения потребности в быстром создании собственной государственности в странах региона, которые не были готовы к независимости при распаде СССР. Во-вторых, в главе подчеркивается трансформация понимания советского восприятия образования как «общего блага» и его вытеснение, по крайней мере, на уровне политического дискурса, с неустанным акцентом на образование как инструмента развития «человеческих ресурсов» с учетом спроса рынка на компетенции.Глобальное сообщество обязалось достичь целей устойчивого развития (ЦУР), включая ЦУР4 по образованию, к 2030 году. Задача ЦУР4.7 направлена на предоставление учащимся знаний и компетенций, необходимых им для реализации всех целей устойчивого развития. Основное внимание уделяется когнитивным, социально-эмоциональным и поведенческим результатам обучения, которые помогают учащимся решать конкретные задачи, рассматриваемые ЦУР. Поскольку государства-члены Организации Объединенных Наций работают над достижением ЦУР, им предлагается переосмыслить образование для внесения вклада в ЦУР. В то время как ЦУР4.7 обеспечивает необходимую структуру в этом отношении.
