โ“’ UNESCO/Levithal Nina

The meeting is being organized in the context of a UNESCO/UNODC partnership that aims to strengthen the capacities of education systems โ€“ and in particular of policy-makers, educators and teachers - to plan and undertake education activities that promote the rule of law.

For two days, the expert consultation meeting will bring together a small group of experts, including teachers, educators, teacher trainers, curricula developers, youth (learners), researchers policy-makers and professionals working in fields of prevention from various sectors to discuss the role of education in the promotion of a culture of lawfulness. UNESCO and UNODC technical teams will also be participating to share their insights on specific items.

Working on the basis of the UN Secretary-Generalโ€™s definition of the rule of law and UNESCOโ€™s understanding of Global Citizenship Education, the meeting seeks to clarify the conceptual foundation of the UNESCO/UNODC partnership and aims to identify the measures that can be taken by the education sector to promote a culture of lawfulness as well as effective education approaches that nurture learnersโ€™ ability to act and engage in society as constructive and ethically responsible agents of change.
The meeting is expected to inform the development of guidance materials for teachers and policy-makers on education for a culture of lawfulness.

Participation is on invitation only.
