An Ed-Tech Tragedy? Educational Technologies and School Closures in the Time of COVID-19 발행 연도: 2023 단체 저자: UNESCO Charting a new course for the transformation of education in a digital age An Ed-Tech Tragedy? is a detailed analysis of what happened when education became largely reliant on connected technology during school closures stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, the largest global disruption to education in history. Many claim that this experience was chiefly one of forced progress and transformations that have, however haltingly, helped propel education into desirable digital futures. Others underline an experience of imperfect salvation – technology saving the day in an emergency and preserving learning continuity for significant numbers of students, even if not all students were helped. But the global evidence reveals a more sombre picture. It exposes the ways unprecedented educational dependence on technology often resulted in unchecked exclusion, staggering inequality, inadvertent harm and the elevation of learning models that place machines and profit before people. This publication examines the promises of educational technologies against the reality of what was delivered during periods of pandemic school closures, which stretched for various durations from early 2020 to the end of 2022. Dedicated sections consider alternate possibilities that had the potential to be more inclusive and equitable. The analysis extracts lessons and recommendations to chart new and more humanistic directions for the development, integration and use of technology in education. National Distance Learning Programmes in Response to the COVID-19 Education Disruption: Case Study of the Republic of Korea UNESCO This document is one of several case studies on national distance learning programmes in response to the COVID-19 education disruptions. The case of the Republic of Korea was drawn from the 2020 edition of Mobile Learning Week, organized online in October 2020 under the theme of 'Beyond Disruption: Technology Enabled Learning Futures'. Envisaged to be a continuously enriched mechanism for knowledge sharing and dissemination, the case studies aim to surface best practices worldwide in leveraging digital technology to build inclusive and crisis-resilient learning systems, and to inform the planning of digital transformation of education towards SDG 4 and the futures of learning. Each case study documents governance and funding mechanisms, needs-driven planning of distance learning solutions, evaluation of digital learning’s effects on mitigating disruptions and ensuring inclusion, and pedagogical innovations to maintain or improve the quality of learning.  Education in a Post-COVID World: Additional Considerations (In-Progress Reflection; No.43, 2021) 발행 연도: 2021 저자: Renato Opertti 단체 저자: UNESCO International Bureau of Education (IBE) This discussion document analyses some implications of the ideas proposed in the seminal UNESCO document “Education in a post-COVID world: Nine ideas for public action” (2020). Based on the work of the International Commission on the Futures of Education, the documents’ contributors included prominent figures with a wide range of professional and policy experience who hail from various regions of the world. The set of nine interconnected ideas illuminates the way forward toward the transformation of education and education systems and a reimagined future seen through a progressive lens. On one hand, it reaffirms basic principles, understandings, and commitments with regard to education as a global common good and universal human right; it also articulates the need to both reinvent multilateralism for a new global order and, crucially, to mobilize ideas and funding for transforming education. On the other hand, the document advocates for a comprehensive educational agenda, including the following critical issues: (i) visualizing educators as decision-makers in educational systems; (ii) appreciating students as active actors with rights; (iii) recognizing the value and specificity of the school space; (iv) addressing the dilemmas around technology’s ability to serve as an equalizer of opportunities; and (v) revisiting educational content for the sustainability of younger generations. The Implications of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Fundamental Rights and Civic Space 발행 연도: 2022 저자: Filip Pazderski | Giada Negri | Chayma Khazzani | Ivana Rosenzweigova | Boglarka Szalma | Luben Panov | Carlotta Besozzi 단체 저자: European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) This report was compiled for the European Economic and Social Committee at the request of the Diversity Europe Group by a consortium of four partners - European Civic Forum, Civil Society Europe, European Center for Not-for-Profit Law and the Institute of Public Affairs. A vaccination timeline taking Africa into 2023 would be unethical. African countries need to invest in their own structures and stop relying on colonial structures. There is a moral obligation to safeguard the population through equal distribution. This not only makes moral and ethical sense but also scientific and economic sense as a slow roll out in Africa will impact the rest of the world. First in a series of community engagement and experience sharing workshops launched on 14 April 2021. This fact sheet captures the main discussion outcomes.  School Closures and Regional Policies to Mitigate Learning Loss due to COVID-19: A Focus on the Asia-Pacific UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) Global school closures as a result of COVID-19 have caused learning losses for millions of children despite efforts to deploy remote learning options. Greater economic insecurity among families may also affect school enrolment as many struggle to pay school fees, or require children to work to supplement family income. Ultimately, this will lead to rising dropout rates, estimated to be as much as 4% in a region where 128 million children and young people were already out of school before COVID-19. The largest number of learners at risk reside in South and West Asia.Together, the education and economic fallout from the pandemic threaten progress toward the Sustainable Development Goal for education (SDG 4). Even prior to the COVID-19 disruptions, progress towards SDG 4 was lagging in many countries in the Asia-Pacific and without significant contributions to education finance, the pandemic threatens to push the region even further behind. This report breaks down the effects of school closures. It considers, for example, how many schools were closed, and when, across the Asia-Pacific, and the effects on different levels of education from early childhood education, through to primary and secondary school. The report analyses country efforts to implement remote learning, and strategies to mitigate learning losses as the proportion of students expected to fall below minimum proficiency levels is expected to rise.To achieve SDG 4, all children and young people, and especially those in marginalized groups, need support to get the education they need and deserve. Addressing Educational Challenges In the Era of Pandemics (SangSaeng no.55, 2020) 발행 연도: 2023 단체 저자: APCEIU With the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, the global crisis has further aggravated various multifaceted challenges to humanity.
