Chargé de signaler les comportements déviants, les éducateurs sont amenés à se représenter leurs étudiants comme des "méchants" ou des victimes. Cette perspective empêche de porter un regard pertinent sur la radicalisation dans le milieu éducatif. Deux éléments-clés pour développer une approche plus adaptée consistent à porter un regard critique sur les idéaux et former des "coalitions" pédagogiques. African countries are also involved in counter- terrorism but, due to several internal security and development problems, their effective participation in the combat against terrorism is very limited. They need capacity and skills in order to participate actively in countering terrorism. Education is one of the most appropriate ways for preparing African countries to prevent terrorism. Education provides not only knowledge but also capacity to make informed decisions, strategies and policies. The study used an inclusive and participatory research approach by undertaking regional, subregional and national consultations with young people across the globe; conducting and receiving country case studies; commissioning focus-group discussions with “hard to reach” youth; and drawing on a survey-based mapping of the work done by youth-led peacebuilding organizations. Particular effort was made to reach out beyond easily accessible and elite youth, to young people who would not ordinarily have a say in these sorts of global policy processes.
