OHCHR) Plus de quarante ans après son adoption, la Convention sur l’élimination de toutes les formes de discrimination à l’égard des femmes reste un cadre essentiel et ambitieux de promotion de l’égalité des sexes dans tous les domaines – depuis le contexte familial et scolaire jusque dans les conseils d’administration et les sphères dirigeantes de la politique. Si des progrès considérables ont été accomplis depuis l’entrée en vigueur de la Convention, aucun pays ne peut encore prétendre avoir atteint une égalité pleine et entière entre les hommes et les femmes.Au cours des vingt dernières années, une relation très étroite s’est développée entre le Comité pour l’élimination de la discrimination à l’égard des femmes – organe conventionnel chargé de contrôler l’application de la Convention – et l’Union interparlementaire (UIP). Grâce à cette collaboration, des parlementaires du monde entier ont approfondi leur connaissance de la Convention et se sont, en nombre croissant, impliqués dans l’important exercice d’établissement du de rapports périodiques au Comité qui rend compte de la mise en œuvre de la Convention au niveau national. Nombre de parlementaires ont posé des questions au gouvernement, ont proposé ou modifié des lois, mené des opérations de sensibilisation dans leurs circonscriptions et se sont engagés auprès de l’Organisation des Nations Unies pour réduire l’écart entre les promesses de la Convention et la réalité qui est celle des femmes et des filles au quotidien.

Consequently, audiences do not receive the full picture, and promises of fair and accurate representation often fall short, affecting our perceptions of each other in society. It is the case of persons with disabilities, who make up 16 percent of the global population but remain one of the most marginalized groups. Media coverage frequently overlooks them, and when their stories are told, they are often framed through stereotypes. This not only creates barriers but also denies them their rights. To address this, media organizations should enhance editorial policies and representation, improve employment conditions, and foster a more inclusive environment for professionals with disabilities.The Practical Manual and Master Class provide hands-on advice to editorial teams on how to ensure fair and unbiased coverage of disability. For content producers, it details how to make media content and services accessible. To managers and decision makers, the material inspires change, demonstrating how disability equality can contribute to media industry growth and create new revenue streams.This work contributes to the implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (2006) and promotes freedom of expression, media development, and access to information for the meaningful participation of persons with disabilities in public debate. In the digital age, it is also imperative to be able to decipher the manipulation of history, and the misrepresentation of the past.The guide provides teachers with the necessary tools and guidance to prevent the spread of Holocaust denial and distortion. Both phenomena undermine historical truth, fuel antisemitism, and attack democratic values. By addressing these issues, this set of lesson activities for secondary education seeks to build students’ resilience against falsehoods through fostering critical thinking, empathy, and global citizenship. It was developed by UNESCO and funded by the European Commission to equip educators with tools to confront the dangerous spread of Holocaust denial and distortion. With 12 engaging lessons, students aged 14 to 18 will explore the historical facts of the Holocaust while learning to critically evaluate misinformation in today’s digital world. From analyzing survivor testimonies to deconstructing harmful memes and conspiracy theories, this resource features 12 adaptable lessons that focus on historical literacy, media analysis, and social-emotional competencies. Topics range from identifying denial and distortion, evaluating media and online sources, analyzing primary evidence like survivor testimonies, and understanding the misuse of Holocaust history in memes and conspiracy theories. Activities are scaffolded with questions, examples, and practical exercises to encourage analytical skills and promote meaningful classroom discussions. The lessons also include suggestions for incorporating primary sources, visiting memorial sites, and addressing broader issues of genocide and hate. In doing so, the guide aims to not only preserve Holocaust memory but also strengthen the values of truth, empathy, and tolerance in younger generations.

Many debates around hate speech are about law and regulation. Understanding the law, especially international law, can help journalists when reporting incidents where speakers are accused of hate speech. It can also help them analyse whether existing laws, as written and as applied, comply with international human rights approaches for striking the right balance between freedom of expression and the right to dignity, equality and non-discrimination.
