Including Education in the Pact for the Future: An SDG 4 Youth & Student Network Contribution 발행 연도: 2024 저자: Laeek Siddiqui | Juliette Gudknecht | Daniela Moreno Farfán | Azkha Mikdhar 단체 저자: SDG 4 Youth & Student Network | UNESCO Inclusion is the promise towards a fair and equitable education for all. It is critical to ensuring that every youth and student succeeds. Highlighted by UNESCO in the 2020 Global Education Monitoring Report, striving towards inclusive education is non-negotiable, as education is a human right. With the current challenges of our world highlighted in the 2030 Agenda, specifically in the areas of poverty, armed conflict and digital transformation, inclusion must be an essential imperative in all policies. The Summit of the Future (SOTF) convenes on the 22 to 23 of September at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, United States. One of its outcomes, if inter-governmentally agreed-upon, would be the Pact for the Future. The Pact is action-oriented, including a chapeau followed by 5 chapters: 1) sustainable development and financing for development; 2) international peace and security; 3) science, technology and innovation and digital cooperation; 4) youth and future generations; and 5) transforming global governance. Along with the Pact are two annexures: the Global Digital Compact and the Declaration on Future Generations. This document introduces the advocacy of the SDG 4 Youth & Student Network – a network hosted by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as the Global Education Cooperation Mechanisms Inter-Agency Secretariat – for inclusive and equitable education at the SOTF, to uphold peace, sustainable development, youth and future generations. It is essential to #IncludeEducation in the Pact and the outcomes of the SOTF for our #InclusiveFuture, to ensure that no one is left behind. It brings attention to how education is essential to global cooperation and empowering future generations, calling upon you to join us in supporting inclusive education systems, with the Global Education Meeting convened by UNESCO side by side with the G20 meeting on 31 October and 1 November 2024 in Fortaleza, Brazil.
Transforming Knowledge and Research for Just and Sustainable Futures: Towards a New Social Imaginary for Higher Education (Education, Research and Foresight: Working Papers; No.33, 2024) 발행 연도: 2024 저자: Leon Tikly 단체 저자: UNESCO The paper considers why it is important to transform knowledge and research for just and sustainable futures and discusses the role of higher education in these transformation processes. The paper sets out how knowledge, research, and knowledge systems can be understood and critiques knowledge hierarchies that have emerged in the context of colonialism, leading to the marginalization of the knowledge systems and languages of the colonized. It is argued that there is a need to create new ecologies of knowledge that value and develop synergies between ‘all of the archives of the world’ and that can revitalize and expand the knowledge commons and contribute to more just and sustainable futures. Higher education has a pivotal role to play in the creation of new ecologies of knowledge and a revitalized knowledge commons through promoting socially and ethically engaged research, the decolonization and reorientation of university curricula and pedagogy to foster sustainable futures, and the democratization of universities to better represent historically marginalized groups. Underpinning this role must be a shift from a Western modernist social imaginary of higher education to one based on a new planetary consciousness.

Towards Inclusion in Education: Status, Trends and Challenges: The UNESCO Salamanca Statement 25 Years on 발행 연도: 2020 단체 저자: UNESCO The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development focuses on leaving no one behind with its Goal 4 on education calling upon education systems ‘to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’. With ten years remaining to the target date of 2030, countries need to step up e¬orts to reach out to all learners, respect their diverse needs, abilities and characteristics and eliminate all forms of discrimination in the learning environment. This requires adopting an inclusive approach whose foundations have been laid by the UNESCO World Conference on Special Needs Education held in Salamanca, Spain, in 1994. The publication looks at the past, present and future since Salamanca. It provides examples from around the world and make recommendations to guide the further development of inclusive national policies and practices.
Gender Report 2020: A New Generation; 25 Years of Efforts for Gender Equality in Education (Global Education Monitoring Report) 발행 연도: 2020 단체 저자: UNESCO | Global Education Monitoring Report Team Building on the 2020 Global Education Monitoring Report, this report investigates how inclusion in education can advance gender equality in and through education, which is critical to make progress towards gender equality in society. The goal of gender equality is, of course, not new. It was enshrined in the 1979 Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and was at the core of the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, whose 25th anniversary is marked in 2020.
Youth and Violent Extremism on Social Media: Mapping the Research 발행 연도: 2017 저자: Séraphin Alava | Divina Frau-Meigs | Ghayda Hassan 단체 저자: UNESCO | Information for All Programme (IFAP) Does social media lead vulnerable individuals to resort to violence? Many people believe it does. And they respond with online censorship, surveillance and counter-speech. But what do we really know about the Internet as a cause, and what do we know about the impact of these reactions? All over the world, governments and Internet companies are making decisions on the basis of assumptions about the causes and remedies to violent attacks. The challenge is to have analysis and responses firmly grounded. The need is for a policy that is constructed on the basis of facts and evidence, and not founded on hunches – or driven by panic and fearmongering. It is in this context that UNESCO has commissioned the study titled Youth and Violent Extremism on Social Media – Mapping the Research. This work provides a global mapping of research (mainly during 2012-16) about the assumed roles played by social media in violent radicalization processes, especially when they affect youth and women. The research responds to the belief that the Internet at large is an active vector for violent radicalization that facilitates the proliferation of violent extremist ideologies.Indeed, much research shows that protagonists are indeed heavily spread throughout the Internet. There is a growing body of knowledge about how terrorists use cyberspace. Less clear, however, is the impact of this use, and even more opaque is the extent to which counter measures are helping to promote peaceful alternatives. While Internet may play a facilitating role, it is not established that there is a causative link between it and radicalization towards extremism, violent radicalization, or the commission of actual acts of extremist violence.
Молодежь и насильственный экстремизм в социальных медиа: Сопоставление исследований 발행 연도: 2017 저자: Séraphin Alava | Divina Frau-Meigs | Ghayda Hassan 단체 저자: UNESCO | Information for All Programme (IFAP)
