How to teach the Holocaust to Middle School Students : Increasing Empathy Through Multisensory Education This study examines the relationships among seventh-grade students' achievement scores, attitudes toward instructional approaches, empathy scales, and the transfer of skills between traditional versus multisensory education. The Learning Style Inventory (LSI) was employed to determine learning-style preferences. The data collected in this study was subjected to statistical analyses, supporting the use of a multisensory, rather than a traditional, approach for teaching lessons of the Holocaust. The King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Programme for a Culture of Peace and Dialogue: Key Achievements of Phase I 발행 연도: 2016 단체 저자: UNESCO The King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Programme for a Culture of Peace and Dialogue arose from the institutional framework of UNESCO’s Programme for a Culture of peace and non-violence. More than a concept, the Culture of Peace is a commitment to make peace a tangible reality for all. It denotes “a set of values, attitudes, traditions and modes of behaviour and ways of life based on respect for life, ending of violence and […] adherence to the principles of freedom, justice, democracy, tolerance, solidarity, cooperation, pluralism, cultural diversity, dialogue and understanding at all levels of society and among nations” (Article 1, Declaration and Programme of Action of a Culture of Peace, UNESCO, 1999). Homegrown terrorism and transformative learning: an interdisciplinary approach to understanding radicalization 발행 연도: 2010 저자: Alex S. Wilner | Claire-Jehanne Dubouloz Since 2001, a preponderance of terrorist activity in Europe, North America and Australia has involved radicalized Westerners inspired by Al Qaeda. Described as ‘homegrown terrorism’, perpetrators are citizens and residents born, raised, and educated within the countries they attack. While most scholars and policy-makers agree that radicalization plays a central role in persuading Westerners to embrace terrorism, little research properly investigates the internal and cognitive processes inherent to radicalization. Transformative learning theory, developed from the sciences in education, health and rehabilitation, provides an unconventional and interdisciplinary way to understand the radicalization process. The theory suggests that sustained behavioural change can occur when critical reflection and the development of novel personal belief systems are provoked by specific triggering factors.  Homegrown terrorism and transformative learning: an interdisciplinary approach to understanding radicalization 발행 연도: 2010 저자: Alex S. Wilner | Claire-Jehanne Dubouloz Depuis 2001, une grande partie de l'activité terroriste en Europe, en Amérique du Nord et en Australie a impliqué des Occidentaux radicalisés inspirés par Al Qaïda. Controversial Issues - Teachers' attitudes and practices in the context of citizenship education 발행 연도: 2004 저자: Christopher Oultona | Vanessa Dayb | Justin Dillon | Marcus Graced A survey of the literature suggests that the principles and methods relating to the teaching of controversial issues are themselves controversial. This irony is more relevant to teachers now than ever before. This paper explores the issue of teachers' readiness to use controversial issues in the classroom, and reports on research involving focus groups and questionnaires. We suggest that many teachers are under‐prepared and feel constrained in their ability to handle this aspect of their work.
