Global Priority Africa Flagships 2023: An Update from UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa 발행 연도: 2024 단체 저자: UNESCO Harare Two years into the implementation of the Operational Strategy for Priority Africa 2022-2029 (OSPA), a new biennium has commenced through the Programme and Budget for 2024-2025. With a goal of achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations’ Agenda 2030 and the African Union’s Agenda 2063 “The Africa We Want”, the OSPA remains pivotal in accelerating the achievement of SDGs amidst a growing threat of regression and stagnation on some of the SDG targets. The relentless climatic changes have resulted in droughts and cyclones whose incessant rains have caused food insecurity, waterborne diseases and loss of biodiversity. Geopolitical crisis and the remnants of the impacts of COVID-19 continue to waylay the aspirations of the continent. Gender inequality, youth unemployment, education and HIV and AIDS continue to be areas for concern. Despite this plethora of challenges, Member States remain committed to Agenda 2030 and 2063 and the strong partnership existing with UNESCO and the rest of the UN system. While the OSPA is driven to address challenges in the areas of demography and sustainable development, education and knowledge, climate change, cultural renaissance, and peace and democracy these all have far-reaching consequences beyond their focus hence addressing these contributes widely to other thematic areas. Priority Africa reinforces UNESCO’s partnerships with African governing bodies such as the African Union (AU), Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Member States as well as other UN agencies. Being also aligned with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and UNESCO’s Joint Programme of Action (JPA) 2022-2025, the OSPA continues to demonstrate its relevance to the region. 
Bridge Zambia Project Report 발행 연도: 2019 단체 저자: Korean National Commission for UNESCO | Zambia National Commission for UNESCO The Bridge Zambia Project (the Project) has been implemented jointly between the Korean National Commission for UNESCO (KNCU) and its partners in Zambia since October 2010. In March 2019, KNCU’s involvement in the Project will come to an end and Zambia will take over full responsibility for the Project as it goes forward. The Project has supported grassroots activities through the establishment of a Community Learning Centre (CLC), which acts as a hub of community-led development activities in non-formal education. The Project has mobilized and empowered communities and local leadership to take charge of non-formal education programmes with the aim of assisting Zambia to attain UNESCO’s Education for All goals and UN Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), concerning education quality. 
UNESCO-SADC: Cooperation 2019 발행 연도: 2020 단체 저자: UNESCO Harare UNESCO and SADC have a long standing history that culminated in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 1996. In 2017, UNESCO and SADC developed a Joint Programme of Action (JPA) which identifies concrete area of cooperation. These include education; technical and vocational education and training (TVET); youth; HIV and health education; science, technology and innovation (STI); water security, renewable energy and disaster risk management; culture; communication and information (including media for SDGs); and data for development.The purpose of this magazine is to highlight UNESCO’ work to improve education quality in the southern Africa region in partnership with SADC. 
Learning to live together: education for conflict resolution, responsible citizenship, human rights and humanitarian norms 발행 연도: 2013 저자: Margaret Sinclair 단체 저자: Education Above All (Qatar) Education cannot offer immediate remedies to the local and global problems that we see on the news screens every day, but it can contribute to solving them over the longer term. This book examines specifically the contribution that education for learning to live together can make, even in countries where teacher training and classroom resources are limited. Many countries have diverse populations (ethnic, linguistic, religious, etc) and seek to maintain harmony among the different groups. In some countries, however, especially where economic stress or climate change have intensified arguments over resources, tensions have led to armed conflict. This brings with it all the misery of death, injury, displacement and poverty, along with disruption of education systems. In some instances education itself has been a contributory factor to the outbreak of conflict, notably through unequal education opportunities for different groups, and through biased school curricula.Civil conflict has brought untold suffering in recent years, and in a globalised world it has negative spill-over effects to neighbouring and other countries. It is vital to develop education policies and curricular reforms that can help convey values and skills for learning to live together to young people, to help lessen tensions, within and between countries.Education policy-makers can help lay the foundations for a better future by adjusting the content and process of education to reflect skills and values for human rights, humanitarian norms, peaceful resolution of conflicts, sustainable development and other issues as elements of local, national and global citizenship.Education reform is not enough, of course, to resolve the numerous problems of our times. The focus of this volume is on the contribution that can be made through aligning the content of education to the goal of learning to live together. This work will have greater impact when it takes place within education systems and policies that are consistent with human rights values and of course when other sectors besides education make their respective contributions.This book shows that transformative education for conflict resolution and peace, for local, national and global citizenship, for human rights and humanitarian values can be implemented even under difficult conditions if there is a policy commitment to do so. Authors have provided examples and lessons learned from their own experiences as eminent practitioners in the field. Pan-African forum: sources and resources for a culture of peace 발행 연도: 2013 단체 저자: African Union The Pan-African Forum “ Sources and resources for a culture of peace” was held in Luanda, Angola, from 26 to 28 March 2013, and was jointly organized by UNESCO, the African Union and the Government of Angola, under the High Patronage of H. E. Mr José Eduardo dos Santos, President of the Republic of Angola. This forum was the result of a close cooperation between UNESCO and the African Union, one of their main objectives being building peace in Africa, through the promotion of a culture of peace based on the intrinsic values of African societies. The Republic of Angola Government, through its President of the Republic H. E. Mr José Eduardo dos Santos, resolutely engaged in this process with major financial and technical support for the organization of the Forum in the Angolan capital city. As indicated in the Action Plan adopted by the participants in plenary (Annex I), recommendations made during the Forum are directed at all components of African society : political leaders, national and regional institutions, civil society, community associations, youth movements and women’s organizations, religious and traditional leaders, entrepreneurs and leaders from the private sector, etc. The implementation of the Action Plan will be continuously monitored by the two institutions that jointly organized the Luanda Forum, the African Union and UNESCO. Representatives from the 55 African countries participating in the Forum will both contribute to the proposal for action by bringing their national experience and take the lead in the follow‐up of the recommendations made at country level. In order to ensure this follow‐up it will be important to link together the participants by the creation of an African Network for the Promotion of a Culture of Peace and Non‐violence. The representatives of African countries will play the role of focal points of the awareness campaign at the national level. Finally, the agenda of the Forum includes a plan to hold a roundtable on the establishment of a multi-stakeholder partnership for action. Organized with the participation of regional institutions, public and private economic actors as well as representatives of Governments and Civil Society, this session will be the occasion to launch a continental and lasting Movement for the promotion of a culture of peace. For this round table and for the Campaign, the stakeholders can now witness the action as their Foundation / Company / Institution / Organization leads to help in building the defence of peace in the minds of men and women and ensure that peace is a reality: "Make Peace Happen". Forum panafricain: sources et ressources pour une culture de paix 발행 연도: 2013 단체 저자: African Union Le Forum «Sources et ressources pour une culture de paix » panafricaines a eu lieu à Luanda, en Angola, du 26 au 28 Mars 2013, et a été organisée conjointement par l'UNESCO, l'Union africaine et le Gouvernement de l'Angola, sous le Haut Patronage de SEM José Eduardo dos Santos, Président de la République d'Angola. Ce forum a été le résultat d'une étroite collaboration entre l'UNESCO et l'Union africaine, l'un de leurs principaux objectifs étant consolidation de la paix en Afrique, à travers la promotion d'une culture de la paix fondée sur les valeurs intrinsèques des sociétés africaines. Le gouvernement de la République d'Angola, à travers son Président de la République H. E. M. José Eduardo dos Santos, résolument engagé dans ce processus avec le soutien financier et technique majeur pour l'organisation du Forum dans la capitale angolaise. Afin d'assurer ce suivi, il sera important de relier entre eux les participants par la création d'un Réseau africain pour la promotion d'une culture de la paix et de la non-violence. Les représentants des pays africains vont jouer le rôle des points focaux de la campagne de sensibilisation au niveau national. Enfin, l'ordre du jour du Forum comprend un plan pour tenir une table ronde sur la mise en place d'un partenariat multipartite pour l'action. Organisé avec la participation des institutions régionales, publiques et acteurs économiques privés ainsi que des représentants des gouvernements et de la société civile, cette session sera l'occasion de lancer un mouvement continental et durable pour la promotion d'une culture de la paix. Pour cette table ronde et de la campagne, les parties prenantes peuvent maintenant témoigner de l'action que leur / Société / Institution / Organisation Fondation mène pour aider à la construction de la défense de la paix dans l'esprit des hommes et des femmes et de veiller à ce que la paix est une réalité: « Agissons pour la paix ». Education for a culture of peace, human rights, citizenship, democracy and regional integration: ECOWAS reference manual, for use by trainer of trainers 발행 연도: 2013 단체 저자: UNESCO Dakar | Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) The manual comprises seven modules dealing with the Culture of Peace and Conflict Management; Human Rights; Civism and Citizenship; Democracy and Good Governance; Gender and Development; Public Health, Environment and Sustainable Development; and Regional Integration. Each module has sub-themes with introductions, reference materials, general objectives to guide the trainer and generic pedagogical tables that are flexible enough to be adapted to available teaching resources in the different ECOWAS countries. It is also suitable and adaptable to the training of teachers involved in both formal and non-formal education delivery at different levels of teaching and learning. The ultimate goal of the Manual is to build a critical mass of ECOWAS citizens equipped with competent skills, not only for cognitive and psycho-motor domains of education, but also affective skills for positive values, attitudes and behaviors that promote peace, tolerance and peaceful co-existence of community citizens.
