Including Transformative Education in Pre-service Teacher Training: A Guide for Universities and Teacher Training Institutions in the Arab Region Год публикации: 2024 Автор: Khalaf Al Abri | Marco Pasqualini Организация-автор: UNESCO Beirut Transformative Education (TE), which includes concepts such as Global Citizenship Education (GCED) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), is an essential approach to provide learners with the tools to act for more just, peaceful and sustainable societies. Between 2021 and 2023, the experts of the UNESCO Arab Transformative Education Network identified the creation of a course on Transformative Education for teachers’ pre-service training as a key step to (i) provide teachers with the needed skills to promote Transformative Education as part of the national curriculum as well as though their daily teaching practices, and (ii) to support the reform of pedagogies more broadly, by making them more interactive and focused on critical thinking, and thus positively contributing to improving learners’ overall learning outcomes. This guidance document is addressed to all entities in charge of pre-service teacher training (e.g. departments of education within higher education institutions and teacher training institutions) in the Arab region interested in including Transformative Education as part of their programmes. The guidance document particularly supports faculty deans and academia in defining the scope and the key parameters to consider while developing a course on Transformative Education, including defining course objectives, format, content, and pedagogy, as well as choosing the right facilitator(s) to deliver the course. The document also provides useful references to other guides and tools which can further support the reflections around Transformative Education and how it can be concretely applied and promoted at the higher education level. Contemporary challenges, including corruption must be addressed through education, transparency, accountability and the rule of law, among other efforts. This joint publication by UNODC and UNESCO is a response to this important issue. It is aimed at educators who are striving to inspire and prepare future generations to actively contribute to societies grounded in integrity, ethics and respect for the rule of law. The handbook builds on the first two launched in 2019. This publication highlights the transformative power of education in strengthening the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary for addressing global challenges, especially those that stem from a lack of integrity, like corruption. It delves into the current and potential impact of artificial intelligence on democracy and the benefits that both artificial intelligence and digitalization, in general, could bring to enhancing collective decision-making processes. This analysis is structured around four key topics:1. The democratic expectations and disappointments of digitization2. The new digital public space: the democratic conversation3. The democracy of data: the politics of Big Data4. Democracy as a form of political decision-making: algorithmic governance Finally, this report offers recommendations for the democratic governance of artificial intelligence aimed at mitigating neative impacts and fostering a more democratic approach to AI governance. قيم المواطنة في التعليم الأبتدائي : دراسة وصفية تحليلية لمحتوى كتاب التربية المدنية Год публикации: 2022 Автор: Abdelghani Makhloufi Организация-автор: Democratic Arab Center هدفت الدراسة إلى الوقوف على واقع انسجام قيم المواطنة الواردة في كتاب التربية المدنية للتعليم الابتدائي مع تلك القيم التي وردت في القانون التوجيهي للتربية الوطنية، باعتباره الإطار المرجعي لتأليف المناهج والكتب المدرسية، حيث توصلت الدراسة باعتماد منهج تحليل المحتوى من خلال شبكة تحليل محددة لقيم المواطنة في القانون التوجيهي، وتحليل محتويات كتب التربية المدنية لمرحلة التعليم الابتدائي ككل على ضوئها، إلى أن قيم المواطنة الواردة في كتاب التربية المدنية لمرحلة التعليم الابتدائي لا تتوافق مع مقدار القيم الواردة في القانون التوجيهي للتربية الوطنية إلا بنسبة46.15%، وهي نسبة غير كافية للدلالة على الاعتماد الفعلي للمؤلفين والجهات الوصية على مرجعية القانون التوجيهي للتربية الوطنية في المؤلفات المدرسية. Employing a content analysis approach, the study compared the network of citizenship values delineated in the directive law with the contents of civics textbooks for primary education. Findings revealed a discrepancy, with the citizenship values in the civics textbooks aligning with only 53.85% of those specified in the directive law for national education.
