UNESCO associated schools news infos: climate change education Год публикации: 2009 Организация-автор: UNESCO As the United Nations Climate Change Conference takes place on December 7 to 18 2009 in Copenhagen, Denmark, this special issue will focus on selected climate change education activities carried out by the ASP network around the globe. Climate change is one of the most urgent challenges of sustainable development and a key action theme in the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (DESD). ASPnet schools around the world work on Climate Change Education in order to enable students to make informed and responsible decisions, turn passive awareness into behaviour change and make sustainable behaviours a daily habit. The development of good practices and innovative educational materials in climate change education is a key element in ASPnet’s strategy to meet the pressing educational needs of the future generation. This newsletter highlights only a few of the large number of activities of ASPnet worldwide.
From access to empowerment: UNESCO strategy for gender equality in and through education 2019-2025 Год публикации: 2019 Организация-автор: UNESCO Gender bias still permeate the entire education system in some settings and is often perpetuated rather than questionned. This includes the absence of women as leaders in textbooks, to differential expectations of boys and girls by teachers, to school policies that put pregnant girls at the door rather than respecting, protecting and fulfilling their right to education. This Strategy focuses on system-wide transformation to benefit all learners and targeted interventions to support girls’ and women’s empowerment. It offers three clear lines of action: better data to inform action for gender equality in and through education, better legal, policy and planning frameworks to advance rights, and better teaching and learning practices to empower.
Assessment of Transversal Competencies: Current Tools in the Asian Region Год публикации: 2019 Автор: Esther Care | Alvin Vista | Helyn Kim Организация-автор: UNESCO Bangkok | Brookings Institution UNESCO’s Asia-Pacific Regional Bureau for Education has been working on education quality under the name of ‘transversal competencies’ (TVC) since 2013. Many of these competencies have been included in national education policy and curricula of countries in the region, but now the importance accorded them is increasingly gaining attention. As policy makers increasingly require their systems to provide evidence of 21st century skills acquired by their learners, implementation challenges highlight the need for a stronger alignment between curricula, pedagogy and learning assessments. UNESCO Bangkok’s Network on Education Quality Monitoring in the Asia Pacific (NEQMAP) undertook this regional study to examine components within countries’ learning assessments that show how these apply to and can measure transversal competencies. This report provides valuable information on how learning assessments are already capturing TVC and is useful for a broad range of education stakeholders, not only test developers, but also curriculum developers, teacher trainers and teachers. Particularly important is the need to align these skills and competencies across the entire education system.
EIU Best Practice Series No. 5: Peace and human rights education through education for sustainable development: lessons from four case studies in the Philippines Год публикации: 2007 Организация-автор: APCEIU The four case studies showed that EIU through peace and human rights education in the context of education for sustainable development can build a critical mass of Filipinos who will reject wars and promote social security. Education can play a role to direct the children, youth, and adults toward peace building and better understanding of cultural differences. It should also be noted that when institutions adopt a peace culture, establishing local and international organizations and putting up resources for various peace-building initiatives become possible. Educational intervention can effect changes in the minds of men and build a lasting and substantive foundation for peace based on justice and respect for human rights.
