(p. 31) — these are some of the subjects that constitute the main dossier,
Wide angle, of this issue dedicated to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).UNESCO is closely associated with the development and implementation of this international road map that aims
to achieve the seventeen objectives established by the UN, which is convinced that culture, though officially absent from the SDGs, is at the heart of sustainable development policies (p. 12). Elyx, the jovial character created by Yacine Ait Kaci (YAK) and designated virtual ambassador of the UN, supports the Courier in its mission to make palpable the different realities around the world. These are illustrated by a number of SDGs and highlight the players who participate in achieving this agenda for everyone. These include the international community, states, civil society, local communities and authorities, the private sector, and the partnerships that these players set up between each other.The Ideas section, which is dedicated
to another highly topical issue — the current perception of Islam — suggests considering a reinterpretation of the Koran (p. 42) and the sharia (p. 48).
This issue of the Courier also features a reference text on the Different Aspects of Islamic Culture. Launched in 1977, in the wake of a monumental work produced by UNESCO Publishing on general and regional histories, this comprehensive work was completed in November 2016, with the publication of two volumes that constitute an important contribution to the current debate on Islam.In the Current affairs section for the April-June 2017 quarter, the Courier
will celebrate the launch of the World Book Capital programme in Conakry
on 23 April (p. 70) and the International Jazz Day, with the Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés (p. 58) on 30 April in Havana.The Courier will also participate in the celebration of several other international days such as the World Press Freedom Day on 3 May (p. 62), the World Oceans Day on 8 June (p. 65), and the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict on 19 June (p. 61).This issue of the Courier also invites you to delve into the peculiar and largely unknown world of Jeju Island’s haenyeo, the women divers from the Republic of Korea. Mieux comprendre les Objectifs de développement durable Год публикации: 2017 Организация-автор: Agence Française de Développement (AFD) Pour mieux appréhender les Objectifs de développement durable (ODD), ce quiz de 170 questions/réponses propose de découvrir de façon ludique et pédagogique les différentes facettes et engagements de chacun de ces objectifs. En adéquation avec la mission d’éducation au développement durable des établissements scolaires, ce quiz peut permettre d’aborder de nombreuses notions étudiées dans les programmes scolaires. Dix questions sont proposées par ODD. Ce quiz convient aux grands comme aux petits, dès 9 ans, et peut être utilisé aussi bien par le grand public que par les enseignants. En tant que concept, il désigne ensemble deux entités : le féminin et le masculin ou encore les hommes et les femmes. Les inégalités de genre se manifestent dans tous les aspects de l’éducation, des infrastructures aux programmes, des politiques de vie scolaire aux outils didactiques, de la pédagogie au corps enseignant. Souvent les inégalités sont au détriment des filles, parfois au détriment des garçons. Les inégalités sont complexes: les filles peuvent avoir une espérance de vie scolaire supérieure aux garçons tout en ayant moins de chance que ces derniers d’accéder à l’éducation en premier lieu. Les garçons peuvent être plus nombreux à accéder au secondaire, mais également plus nombreux à ne pas terminer leur cycle d’étude ou à ne pas obtenir le niveau minimum dans certaines matières. Les inégalités se retrouvent dans l’accès, le maintien et l’achèvement. Elles se retrouvent également dans l’accès à l’emploi. Elles varient en fonction des cycles d’éducation, de l’âge des apprenants et des pays.

The Impact of Holocaust education: how to assess policies and practices? Permanent Delegation to UNESCO UNESCO, which is charged with “promoting awareness of Holocaust remembrance through education” by resolution 34 C/61 of its General Conference, marked the International Day of Commemoration in Memory of Victims of the Holocaust on 27 January 2014 by convening an international seminar for members of the global community who are involved with and committed to this mandate. The event, titled “The Impact of Holocaust Education: How to Assess Policies and Practices”, aimed at highlighting current practices and debates in the field of research in Holocaust education. It was organized in partnership between UNESCO, including its International Bureau of Education, and the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Studies with the support of the Delegation of Hungary to UNESCO. 
Inclusion from the start: guidelines on inclusive early childhood care and education for Roma children Год публикации: 2014 Организация-автор: UNESCO | Council of Europe Inclusion from the start: guidelines on inclusive early childhood care and education for Roma children (Guidelines hereafter) is a joint contribution by the Council of Europe and UNESCO to improving access to quality early childhood services for Roma children. They are a concrete follow-up to the recommendations arising from an expert meeting, organised by the two organisations in 2007.1 Recognising that quality early childhood experience is an important stepping stone toward inclusive participation in school and society, the Guidelines address the challenges specifc to Roma children in the early years and transition to primary education. They provide guidance on key themes, such as the conceptualisation of early childhood care and education (ECCE) services, agenda-setting, stakeholders’ responsibilities, curricular and pedagogical approaches, staf training and professional development, assessment and transition to primary education. The Guidelines primarily address formal ECCE services – such as kindergartens and preschools – which typically cater for children from ages 3-6 years. The reason for this focus is that providing care and education experience prior to primary school entry is crucial for supporting Roma children’s school readiness and for facilitating an equal start in their frst year. This being said, the Guidelines also acknowledge the critical importance of the years pre-natal to age 3, and consider health and nutrition interventions and non-formal ECCE programmes (e.g. community-based childcare, parenting education) as essential services in deprived neighbourhoods and settlements.
