Closing the Gap: Ensuring There Are Enough Qualified and Supported Teachers in Sub-Saharan Africa Год публикации: 2021 Организация-автор: International Task Force on Teachers for Education 2030 | UNESCO The fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG 4) aims to ensure better learning opportunities and outcomes and more equitable and inclusive education for all. SDG target 4.c calls for an increase in the supply of qualified teachers, particularly in low-income countries. To achieve this ambitious target, the international community needs to pay renewed attention to teacher support and preparation.This advocacy brief considers what it will take to increase the supply of qualified teachers in sub-Saharan Africa, the region where the teacher shortage is most acute. It analyses the causes for teacher shortages, looks at trends affecting the region and describes the scale of the shortages. It examines the fiscal pressures on low-income countries to cover salary costs and the costs of initial teacher education and continuing professional development, and it proposes some recommendations for governments and the international community to achieve the essential target of substantially increasing the supply of well qualified teachers.

Girls’ and women’s education and training featured in the document as one of 12 key areas where urgent action was needed to ensure greater equality.Since Beijing, the international community has emphasized the transformative power of girls’ and women’s education and its benefits – not only for girls and women, but for entire societies and even future generations. Under the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on inclusive, equitable quality education and lifelong learning sets ambitious targets to ensure equality of opportunity – including a target aiming to ensure that all girls and boys complete 12 years of education by 2030.This short paper explores the evolution of girls’ and boys’ completion rates in primary and secondary education since 1995 – and calls for action to deliver on our commitments to leaving no one behind. Le document faisait de l’éducation et de la formation des filles et des femmes l’un des 12 domaines clés dans lesquels il était urgent d’agir pour assurer une plus grande égalité.Depuis Beijing, la communauté internationale a mis l’accent sur le pouvoir transformateur de l’éducation des filles et des femmes, et sur ses avantages – non seulement pour les filles et les femmes, mais aussi pour des sociétés entières et même pour les générations futures. Several million adolescents and young people suffer from acts of violence, and trauma that require urgent medical and psychological treatment. The emotional imprints that youth volence leaves on its survivors and their loved ones are often profound. Youth violence destroys lives and its consequences have very high economic costs, both for society and for the families of young people. The goal of this manual is to provide a scientific framework that allows us to understand why some people have a greater tendency to be involved in acts of youth violence and how to prevent it. Varios millones de adolescentes y jovenes sufren por actos de violencia, traumatismos que exijen tratamiento medico y psicologico urgente. Las huellas emocionales que la violencia juvenil deja en sus sobrevivientes y en los seres queridos de estos suelen ser profundas. La violencia juvenil destroza vidas y sus consecuencias tienen costos economicos muy altos,tanto para la sociedad como para las familias de los jovenes. El objetivo de este manual es ayudar a los formuladores de politicas y planificadores en todas partes a contrarrestar la violencia juvenil mediante estrategias respaldadas por la evidencia. El manual proporciona un marco cientifico que permite entender por qué algunas personas tiene una mayor tendencia a verse involucradas en actos de violencia juvenil y cómo prevenirla. 
What’s Next? Lessons on Education Recovery: Findings From a Survey of Ministries of Education Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic Год публикации: 2021 Организация-автор: UNESCO | United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) | World Bank | Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Bank and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) have collaborated in the third round of the Survey on National Education Responses to COVID-19 School Closures, administered by the UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) and OECD to Ministry of Education officials. The questions covered four levels of education: preprimary, primary, lower secondary and upper secondary. While the first two rounds of the survey were implemented during the periods May–June and July–October 2020, respectively, the third round was implemented during the period February–June 2021. In total, 143 countries responded to the questionnaire. Thirty-one countries submitted responses to the OECD (“OECD survey”) and 112 countries responded to the UIS (“UIS survey”). Seven countries responded to both surveys. In these instances, the more complete set responses were used in analysis.
