Empowering Students for Just Societies: A Handbook to Teach Integrity in Secondary Schools Год публикации: 2024 Организация-автор: UNESCO | UN. Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) The importance of education lies in its power to shape the values of upcoming generations and equip them with the knowledge to make informed decisions. Contemporary challenges, including corruption must be addressed through education, transparency, accountability and the rule of law, among other efforts. This joint publication by UNODC and UNESCO is a response to this important issue. It is aimed at educators who are striving to inspire and prepare future generations to actively contribute to societies grounded in integrity, ethics and respect for the rule of law. The handbook builds on the first two launched in 2019. This publication highlights the transformative power of education in strengthening the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values necessary for addressing global challenges, especially those that stem from a lack of integrity, like corruption. It underlines the crucial role education plays in nurturing critical thinking, empathy, ethical behaviour, and a commitment to justice and equality among people. The handbook presents a catalogue of educational activities, lesson plans and outside the classroom resources designed to empower youth to reject corrupt practices and become agents of change, promoting integrity and upholding democratic values.
Building Resilience Through Social and Emotional Learning (SEL): Teacher Capacity-building for Sustainable Transformation of Education Systems Год публикации: 2024 Организация-автор: UNESCO Bangkok Countries in the Asia-Pacific region are committed to improving the lives of young children. Despite the progress made so far in the Asia-Pacific region and being halfway to the target date of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, there are still significant gaps in fulfilling SDG Target 4.2: 'By 2030, ensure that all girls and boys have access to quality early childhood development, care and pre-primary education so that they are ready for primary education.' The UNESCO Regional Office in Bangkok (UNESCO Bangkok) has been advocating for SEL to fully become part of the ECCE system and supporting regional Member States in building teachers’ capacity to integrate SEL into children’s learning environments. With social skills and emotional intelligence taught in schools early, children will gain knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions, and achieve personal and collective goals. This can positively contribute to society and transformative resilience through enhancing civic engagement.

Global Report on Early Childhood Care and Education: The Right to a Strong Foundation Год публикации: 2024 Организация-автор: UNESCO | United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Inclusive and quality early childhood care and education (ECCE) are vital for promoting school readiness, foundational learning, and lifelong well-being. Yet almost 60% of children in low-income countries do not have access to early care and learning opportunities. To meet national targets of providing at least one year of organized learning before primary school, low-income and lower-middle-income countries must fill an annual financial gap of USD 21 billion and recruit at least six million more educators before 2030. The first global report, jointly published by UNESCO and UNICEF, offers insights into global and regional ECCE trends. The report, which is a key response to the commitments outlined in the Tashkent Declaration, synthesizes scientific evidence on ECCE’s importance, and exposes persistence gaps in policy and investment. It illustrates how countries have responded to providing equitable and quality ECCE opportunities. The report invites all stakeholders, from governments and policy-makers, to educators, parents and organizations, to ensure that the commitments made in the Tashkent Declaration are fully realized by building a strong foundation for every child.

Bank of Digital Task Sheets Организация-автор: Council of Europe Around forty sheets of tasks anchored in real life and reflective tasks are available. The proposed tasks implement the didactic framework that promotes a socio-interactional approach and extends the usual typology of tasks with tasks anchored in real life. These tasks, carried out on online participatory sites, allow the people who carry them out to experience both authentic (inter)actions and digital citizenship.Alongside these tasks, reflective tasks invite learners to reflect on online practices and in particular on their own uses of digital technology. They are to be adapted according to the contexts of use and provide examples of the implementation of the approach defined in the Didactic Framework.

Transformative pedagogy for learning to live together in Southern Africa: a practical guide Год публикации: 2022 Организация-автор: UNESCO International Institute for Capacity-Building in Africa (IICBA) IntroductionEducation is a powerful force for peacebuilding and transformation: it can contribute to changing individuals and communities, promoting a more just and equitable world fostering inclusion, social cohesion and ultimately contributing to creating peaceful societies. Teachers play a central role in the establishment of knowledge, attitudes and values among young people; they also empower them to propose alternative narratives, to engage with their communities and to contribute to building peaceful societies through their actions. This work can be done through subject areas, e.g., history, civic and moral education, art, music, sports etc., or through dedicated subjects. In any case, there is a need to equip teachers with specific skills and knowledge and this guide can also be used in science subjects. This work cannot begin or take place in the school environment only. It is important to establish a continuum between the school and its surrounding environment. This requires knowledge of the local context and mobilization of organizations and/or community stakeholders. All these aspects are building blocks of transformative pedagogy, which is the central element of this Guide. Chapter One provides concrete elements of analysis to help understand violence and its root causes in the SADC region and to identify prevention strategies. Chapter Two discusses the importance of education, highlighting key elements that contribute to education for peace building and transformation. Chapter Three focuses on the importance of fostering ethical reflections as spaces for dialogue and identity building to develop a sense of purpose and belonging. Chapter Four provides concrete approaches for teachers to adopt Transformative Pedagogy .Chapter Five highlights core competences for Learning to Live Together understood as the combination of knowledge, skills and attitudes essential to promote mutual understanding and social cohesion (the core competencies presented do not constitute an exhaustive list). Chapter Six discusses learners empowerment and participation in community engagement, equipping teachers with concrete tools and approaches to support learners as active change-makers to transform their communities. Chapter seven focuses on assessment as a key component of the transformative learning process allowing both teachers and learners to self-reflect, make connections, understand where they are in the learning process, how they arrived there and what questions they may still have. Chapter Eight introduces concrete activities for learners that can inspire teachers, as well as provide some ideas of initiatives that can be organised. A table at the beginning of Chapter Eight connects the relevant contents of the Guide with each activity presented.
