Working to End School Related Gender Based Violence: Writings by Representatives of Education Unions From Eastern, West and Southern Africa 出版年份: 2019 作者: Shamim Meer 机构作者: Gender at Work | Labour Research Service (LRS) | Global Affairs Canada (GAC) | United Nations Girls' Education Initiative (UNGEI) | Education International (EI) School Related Gender Based Violence (SRGBV) is violence that undermines the bodily integrity, human rights, and gender equality of all those involved in the school but primarily that of the school child. In 2016, 7 teacher unions i.e. SADTU and NAPTOSA from South Africa, BETUZ and ZNUT from Zambia, UNATU from Uganda, ETA from Ethiopia and KNUT from Kenya and in 2018, SLTU from Sierra Leone, GTU from the Gambia and the staff from the Ghana-based Education International Regional Africa Office - actively engaged in a Gender at Work - Gender Action Learning Process (GAL).The main aim of this specific GAL process was to create a participatory EI pilot program in Southern, East and West Africa focusing on individual teachers’ and teacher unions’ capacity to address SRGBV. Convened by the UN Secretary General, the Transforming Education Summit (TES) is taking place on 19 September 2022 in New York. It is a very important opportunity for us as education unions to make our voices heard. The Summit is a crisis response: it aims to reverse the downward trends that we currently see in education, with deepened and exacerbated inequity, and cuts to education budgets. Not only is the world off track to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), the COVID-19 pandemic has wiped out 20 years of education gains. This is why the UN Secretary-General is calling for urgent action. The Summit is the biggest international education event since the adoption of SDG4 and a significant political opportunity for all EI member organisations. There are multiple ways that education unions can engage in the lead up to the Summit. This toolkit includes EI’s key policy messages for the Summit and aims to support EI member organisations in their advocacy efforts to ensure the Summit has concrete, tangible outcomes that advance teachers’ status and rights and the fulfilment of the right to education for all.   Are We There Yet?: Education Unions Assess the Bumpy Road to Inclusive Education 出版年份: 2018 机构作者: Education International (EI) | Tania Principe This report is based on a global membership survey that Education International conducted in 2017-18. The report shows that while many countries have integrated the UN Conventions into their national laws, implementation is running far behind. School materials and facilities are often not accessible, teachers are not adequality supported or consulted, and there are too few education support personnel. In addition, public services are not consistently made available for families with children and youth with disabilities, which can be a major barrier to school attendance. The survey results are a wake-up call for governments to take action and show that a thorough rethinking of past policy-making and current implementation is urgently needed.  Auditing Educational Equity in Light of the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Guide for Education Unions 出版年份: 2020 机构作者: Education International (EI) This Guide is aimed at education unions as they work at local, regional, provincial/state, and/or national level to ensure the equity gaps that have been widened and deepened by the Covid-19 pandemic receive urgent attention and remedy. The purpose of this Guide is to support education unions as they advocate for governments to urgently address the key equity issues that have arisen within education as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The outcomes of an equity audit can enable education institutions and systems to adapt more effectively in a Covid-19 ‘new normal’ and help to undo the structures of inequality that prevent countries from realising the universal right to education. The Guide is not intended to be prescriptive, but rather to provide EI member organisations across regions with an introduction to equity auditing processes within education, and an overview of key questions arising from the ongoing pandemic that need to be addressed through the auditing process.
