Political Thought at School: Problem and Theoretical Foundations 出版年份: 2019 作者: Olivier Lemieux | Denis Simard 机构作者: Éducation et francophonie At a time when voter turnout is apparently declining, many are wondering what actions to take to curb the political alienation and rise of cynicism among younger generations. In this context, the school seems to be an important nerve centre for action. Although Quebec schools do not specifically offer political education, we believe that some knowledge, subject-specific skills, cross-curricular competencies and general areas of training are likely to contribute to the formation of political thought. But what exactly do we mean by «political thought»? The purpose of this article is to propose a construction of this concept, notably by situating it and distinguishing it from other central concepts of human sciences. We therefore believe that this article will provide a theoretical foundation for a broader research project on citizens’ «political competence», which adds to political thought the tendency to take an interest in and participate in public life.

Dans ce contexte, l’école apparaît comme un champ d’action particulièrement névralgique. Si l’école québécoise n’offre pas spécifiquement une éducation politique, nous estimons cependant que certaines connaissances, compétences disciplinaires, compétences transversales et certains domaines généraux de formation sont susceptibles de participer à la formation d’une pensée politique. Mais qu’entendons-nous exactement par «pensée politique»? L’objet du présent article vise à proposer une construction de ce concept, notamment en le situant et en le distinguant d’autres concepts centraux de l’enseignement des sciences humaines. Ainsi, nous estimons que le présent article permettra de poser une première pierre théorique pour un plus vaste projet de recherche portant sur la « compétence politique» des citoyens, laquelle ajoute à la pensée politique la propension à s’intéresser à la vie publique et à y participer.
The Role of Teachers in Education and Democracy: The Impact of a Research Project on Preservice Teacher Perceptions 出版年份: 2015 作者: Gina Thésée | Paul R. Carr | Franck Potwora 机构作者: McGill University. Faculty of Education This article presents reflections on a survey questionnaire related to the connection between education and democracy. A sample of 157 teacher-education students in Montreal completed a follow-up questionnaire after having participated in a research questionnaire (first study) concerning their perception and experience of the linkage between education and democracy. The first study underscored a weak democratic experience as well as an educational journey without a strong linkage to democracy, which concurs with our previous findings. However, the results of the follow-up survey indicate that participation in this inquiry generated socio-educational, epistemological, pedagogical, and methodological reflections, which could have significant implications for the perception of the role of educators.

Faculty of Education Cet article étudie les réflexions suscitées par un questionnaire d’enquête portant sur les liens entre l’éducation et la démocratie. Un échantillon de 157 étudiants d’un programme de formation initiale des enseignants à Montréal a répondu à un questionnaire de suivi (seconde étude) après avoir rempli un questionnaire d’enquête (première étude) portant sur leurs perceptions et leurs expériences des liens entre l’éducation et la démocratie. La première étude révèle une expérience démocratique faible et un parcours éducatif pratiquement sans lien avec la démocratie, ce qui concorde avec les résultats d’études antérieures. Cependant, les résultats du questionnaire de suivi indiquent que la participation à l’enquête a suscité des réflexions d’ordre socioéducatif, épistémologique, pédagogique et méthodologique, qui pourraient avoir des retombées significatives sur leur perception du rôle de l’enseignant.

Through the Strategy and Policy, USAID is providing new opportunities to systematically design, measure, implement, and understand the impact of programs that build social and emotional skills or soft skills for children and youth.To support USAID staff and implementing partners in this work, this brief: Provides an introductory understanding of what USAID means by the terms “social and emotional skills” and “soft skills” and how to communicate about them. Specifies the desired outcomes and quality standards for programming that teach social and emotional skills or soft skills. Identifies areas in which evidence and best practices still have gaps, and areas in which we should consider investing in further learning.
The Comparison of Research Trends on Global Citizenship Education, Democratic Civic Education, and Civic Education Using Text Mining Techniques (Journal of Education & Culture; Vol. 25, No. 6) 出版年份: 2019 作者: Kyunghee Park 机构作者: Education Research Institute of Inha University The purpose of this study is to compare the research trends of global citizenship education(GCED), democratic civic education(DCED), and civic education(CIED). For this purpose, it was analysed into abstracts of 403 articles, extracted 3,932 key-words through text mining analysis. The results of the study are as follows. First, GCED emphasized global competence and international understanding centering on cultural diversity. DCED was d iscussed mainly on the problems of national politics, and the unification issues on the democracy. CIED emphasized participation and practice in the national and cultural context. Second, with regard to the changes of orientation, GCED has changed to explore the practical education design. And DCED and CIED have changed to deal with various issues and contents. Based on these results, implications of this study were discussed for civic educations reflected future learner's diversity and personality.

Investigation and Analysis on the Service Status of University Libraries in Digital Citizen Education (Library Work in Colleges and Universities; No. 4) 出版年份: 2020 作者: Tangyi | Liulu 机构作者: College library and Information Committee of Hunan Provincial This paper investigated the status of the service provided by university libraries in China to cultivate digital citizens and the cognition of responsibility of cultivating digital citizens provided by university libraries. The survey found that: firstly, the number of service in the digital citizen education provided by the university library is related to the university’s level; secondly, university libraries provide the most abundant service in the areas of digital literacy, digital access and digital communication, and less service in the areas of digital law, digital etiquette and digital power; thirdly, university libraries provide the scarcest service in the area of digital trade and most university libraries consider it is no responsible to provide this service or just hold an uncertain attitude; fourthly, there is no significant correlation between the service on digital citizen education provided by university libraries and the cognition status of responsibility.
