History Under Attack: Holocaust Denial and Distortion on Social Media UNESCO | United Nations (UN) Holocaust denial and distortion are dangerous. It is an attack on truth and knowledge. It feeds on and spreads antisemitic tropes and prejudices, and threatens our understanding of one of the most tragic and violent histories: The genocide of six million Jews by Nazi Germany, its allies and collaborators. In countries across Europe, people became complicit in the persecution and murder of their neighbours. Holocaust denial and distortion can prevent society from reckoning with this past. It impedes our comprehension of the causes and warning signs of genocide, and that might strengthen efforts for genocide prevention. It is insulting to the victims and survivors of the Holocaust, and risks the rehabilitation of violent, antisemitic ideologies. At its most extreme, it celebrates and glorifies this history, inciting violence against Jews and calling for another genocide. The United Nations and UNESCO condemn the rise of Holocaust denial and distortion online as a dangerous form of hatred, and commissioned this report in partnership with the World Jewish Congress to raise awareness of the forms and functions of Holocaust denial and distortion on social media, and determine a series of policy and educational responses. This report is a data-driven investigation into the extent and nature of Holocaust denial and distortion on online platforms. It is based on a manual review of almost 4,000 pieces of content collected in June and July 2021 that related to Jews, the Holocaust, antisemitism and Holocaust denial and distortion from five major online platforms and messenger apps. It looks at content posted on Facebook, Instagram, Telegram, TikTok and Twitter: some of the world’s largest online platforms and collectively home to billions of users. It addresses content in four different languages: English, French, Spanish and German, with the aim of providing a wide-ranging review that addresses multiple countries and contexts. This report aims to answer four questions:How much Holocaust-related content on social media either denies the Holocaust or distorts key elements of history? What are the key narratives in contemporary Holocaust denial and distortion? How are Holocaust denial and distortion communicated, and how are they situated within wider discourses and frames? What can online platform companies, policy-makers, educators and organizations promoting Holocaust remembrance, education and research do to tackle the problem? Based on the findings of this report, it provides a series of recommended actions that online platforms, policy-makers, civil society, researchers and educators can implement to prevent and counter Holocaust denial and distortion online.  2017 International Conference on Education and the Holocaust: Progress Report and Follow-up 出版年份: 2018 机构作者: UNESCO | United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) From December 4-8 2017, UNESCO and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum (USHMM) jointly organized the second International Conference on Education and the Holocaust (ICEH) in Washington, DC. The conference brought together 26 participants from 10 countries with the goal of strengthening their capacities to advance education about the Holocaust and genocide in their respective countries. Of great importance was the relevance of this education within the teams’ national contexts. The conference ultimately led to the development of 10 country-specific initiatives. The 2017 ICEH cohort comprises representatives of institutions from Argentina, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mexico, Namibia, South Africa, Tunisia and Ukraine.  Setting Commitments: National SDG 4 Benchmarks to Transform Education Global Education Monitoring Report Team | UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) This publication provides an overview of the transformative agenda being established by countries, as they set SDG 4 benchmarks for education progress to take ownership of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Inspired by the UN Secretary-General’s 2014 call for countries to embrace ‘a culture of shared responsibility’ based on ‘benchmarking for progress’, paragraph 28 of the Education 2030 Framework for Action also called on countries to establish ‘appropriate intermediate benchmarks for addressing the accountability deficit associated with longer-term targets’. This report outlines the steps taken by countries to set these commitments for 2025 and 2030 against seven indicators and is timed to feed into the second review of SDG 4 at the High-level Political Forum. The SDG 4 benchmark values now defined for almost nine in ten countries lay out their nationally determined contributions to the common education goal, using a concept embraced by the climate change sector. Twelve countries’ experiences of approaching the challenge of setting benchmarks based on their education sector plans are included, serving as inspiration for other countries to reflect on their own contributions and the task of developing appropriate policy responses in line with their own ambitions for the next decade, especially in the context of recovery from COVID-19.This publication proposes a way forward for monitoring progress towards the national SDG 4 benchmarks. This way of monitoring will be context-specific, recognizing countries’ starting points, helping link their national with regional and global education agendas. The benchmarks could be a basis for a compact in which countries commit to increasing their ambition, and, in return, the international community offers a program of support. In other words, a system of political accountability associated to political commitments with a support mechanism to accomplish the task.  Libraries and Sustainable Development: A Growing Relationship (Documentation et bibliothèques; vol. 63, no. 3) 出版年份: 2017 作者: Pascale Guertin | Valérie Poirier-Rouillard 机构作者: Association pour l'avancement des sciences et des techniques de la documentation (ASTED) Green roofs, geothermal systems, sustainable materials, recycling and reuse are words that spontaneously come to mind when it comes to sustainable development. But what does this concept really mean? How does it manifest itself, concretely, in our environment, in our life habits? The library ecosystem is increasingly giving way to the precepts of sustainable development, by its civic nature and its mission to share knowledge, but also by its inspirational nature and with new ideas. In Québec and internationally, various green library projects that are focused on the needs and development of the communities they serve are plentiful and distinctive, giving rise to a new discourse that harmoniously interweaves existing considerations and imperatives without compromising the needs of future generations. The following article summarises the principal components of a project undertaken during a summer course taught by Réjean Savard, namely SCI6372 – Aspects internationaux et comparés de l’information. It is the result of a field trip organised by the École de bibliothéconomie et des sciences de l’information (EBSI) in Germany, Prague and Strasbourg during the summer of 2016. It provides an overview of the initiatives of some libraries around the world, and invites us to reflect on the role of the green library. Cultural Mediation for the Safeguarding and Enhancement of Tunisian Heritage: Citizen Initiatives (Ethnologies; vol. Folklore Studies Association of Canada | Laval University Since its independence, Tunisia has invested major efforts to include the valuation of the cultural heritage in a prospect of economic development betting on the tourism sector. The diverse governmental institutions concerned by the protection and the valuation of the patrimonial heritage, such as the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism, set up several initiatives of cultural mediation for that purpose. Numerous reports and publications mention these data, but little is written on the important contribution of citizens and community organizations in the field of cultural mediation. Yet, the associative movement was always strong in Tunisia and has been strengthened increasingly since the revolution of 2010.From visits and from personal meetings held on the ground and completed by recent data gathered on the Web, on blogs, social media pages or also on professional Websites, we propose to examine the place of citizen participation in cultural mediation in Tunisia. We shall take, for that purpose, examples of concrete projects. Youth and Changing Realities: Rethinking Post-basic Education in Sub-Saharan Africa UNESCO Education should empower young people for full participation in their societies and education systems should be responsive to their voices, aspirations and actions. At this time of upheaval, it is more important than ever that youth voices are heard. This synthesis report analyses the perspectives of post-basic education of some young people from 20 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Their voices express diverse experiences, aspirations and expectations. They describe ‘changing realities’ in which education and training opportunities often seem unable to meet their aspirations and new demands of the world of work and society. It focusses on four crucial themes for post-basic education, with reference to youth’s experiences: financing, socio-cultural barriers, skills for work and life, and educators’ capacities. The Education 2030 Framework for Action calls for youth, learners and their organizations to be full partners in the realization of SDG4; to encourage governments and other stakeholders to develop education programmes in consultation with young people; and to help shape policies for relevant and responsive education systems. This synthesis report makes an important contribution towards rethinking post-basic education in sub-Saharan Africa. Lumni This is a video that discusses diverse dimensions of poverty as well as what can be done to address the causes of poverty.
