Gender Inequality in Learning Achievement in Primary Education: What can TERCE Tell Us? 出版年份: 2016 机构作者: UNESCO Santiago Existing research identifies several significant, subject-based gender inequalities in education. Male learners have significant advantages in mathematics and female learners have no less significant advantages in reading and writin. Such considerable differences in achievement may have important consequences for the future wellbeing of students. In order to shed light on this phenomenon in Latin America, this report analyzes the gender gaps in educational achievement in the Third Regional Comparative and Explanatory Study (TERCE) led by the Latin American Laboratory for Assessment of the Quality of Education (LLECE).

Gender-Based Violence in Education 出版年份: 2015 作者: Jenny Perkes This paper examines how policies and strategies to address school-related gender-based violence have evolved since 2000, when gender-based violence within education was largely invisible. It traces remarkable progress in research, policy and programmes, particularly since the mid-2000s when evidence around the globe exposed high levels of many forms of violence. However, there is still insufficient knowledge about what works to reduce violence, and weaknesses in processes of policy enactment which inhibit effective action. Through four country case studies, in South Africa, Brazil, India and Liberia, this paper explores how different forms of violence are being addressed in varying contexts. It concludes that more attention is needed to the space between national and local policy enactments, and to tackling at national, district, school and community levels the norms and inequalities at the heart of gender-based violence.

It documents practical examples of approaches that have been or are being tested, and from which lessons can be drawn. The overarching aim is that this evidence be used to inform programming in crises and support diverse stakeholders in mitigating the impact of emergencies on girls’ education.
Informe de referente regional 2010: oportunidades de aprendizaje escolar de la ciudadanía en América Latina: currículos comparados 出版年份: 2010 作者: Cristián Cox Donoso 机构作者: Sistema Regional de Evaluacion y Desarrollo de Competencias Ciudadanas (SREDECC) This report has three purposes, the first, to describe the contexts and challenges of education for citizenship education in Latin America; secondly, to describe the process of implementation and creation of the Latin American version of the International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS) test and compare the categories of both evaluation tools; lastly, to characterize, in a comparative way, the citizenship education curricula of Colombia, Chile, Guatemala, Mexico, Paraguay, and the Dominican Republic. The results of the report rise from the analysis of secondary sources on the socio-educational contexts in which citizenship education is based upon in Latin America, as well as a comparative analysis of the original educational curricula of the six countries of this project. The structure of the chapters and the sections of this document are arranged according to the referred purposes. The first chapter focuses on the sociocultural context of the educational system that is in charge of shaping citizens. Recent evidence on beliefs and democratic practices in the region will be examined. Later, the evolution of the school systems in the last decade and a half will be described. Finally, in order to establish a “base line” on the role of citizenship education in education policy, first the curricula, pedagogies, and teacher formation and evaluation will be examined. The second chapter focuses on the process of generation of the Latin American evaluative method, part of the ICCS test. Then, in a detailed manner, a comparative analysis of the categories or evaluation criteria of both tests will be presented in order to show the predominant opinion of citizenship education in the 6 countries. Trying to identify certain patterns, the report concludes with a chapter that makes interpretations and projections about the tendencies observed in current curricula and propose new criteria for the development of new education curricula.
Curricular guidelines and citizenship attitudes in Latin American students: a comparative analysis 出版年份: 2015 作者: Martín Bascopé | Macarena Bonhomme | Cristián Cox | Juan Carlos Castillo | Daniel Miranda 机构作者: Revista Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales, Niñez y Juventud Curricular guidelines have become progressively relevant for educating future active citizens. In such a context, it becomes crucial to explore the relationship between the curricular guidelines and how citizenship education is currently acquired by students in Latin American countries. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to comparatively evaluate the institutional view of citizenship expressed in each curriculum and students’ attitudes on civic issues. The exploratory factor analysis and curricular descriptive statistical analysis are based in two valuable and complementary sources, respectively: The Latin American module of the International Civic and Citizenship Study (ICCS) and the Regional System of Citizenship Skills (Sredecc). By making a systematic comparison of both sources, this study reveals that several curricular aspects are consistent with students’ citizenship attitudes and beliefs, and suggests some guidelines for improving and expanding citizenship education in Latin America, considering the importance of education for the formation of an active citizenship.
