Youth and Changing Realities: Rethinking Post-basic Education in Sub-Saharan Africa سنة النشر: 2022 المؤلف المؤسسي: UNESCO Education should empower young people for full participation in their societies and education systems should be responsive to their voices, aspirations and actions. At this time of upheaval, it is more important than ever that youth voices are heard. This synthesis report analyses the perspectives of post-basic education of some young people from 20 countries in sub-Saharan Africa. Their voices express diverse experiences, aspirations and expectations. They describe ‘changing realities’ in which education and training opportunities often seem unable to meet their aspirations and new demands of the world of work and society. It focusses on four crucial themes for post-basic education, with reference to youth’s experiences: financing, socio-cultural barriers, skills for work and life, and educators’ capacities. The Education 2030 Framework for Action calls for youth, learners and their organizations to be full partners in the realization of SDG4; to encourage governments and other stakeholders to develop education programmes in consultation with young people; and to help shape policies for relevant and responsive education systems. This synthesis report makes an important contribution towards rethinking post-basic education in sub-Saharan Africa.

Water Education for Climate Resilience in Asia and the Pacific: A Regional Curriculum سنة النشر: 2021 المؤلف المؤسسي: UNESCO A fundamental element towards attaining water security, water education has been at the heart of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme since its establishment in 1975.However, in much of Asia and the Pacific, water security remains elusive. Ensuring a water secure future for the region will require the unlocking of broader appreciation, acceptance and internalization of basic water science principles and concepts among experts and communities alike. For this, broader and more effective water education is required. For this potential to be fulfilled, reinforced human, financial and technical resources are required to deliver education, training and capacity development across large segments of society. Not only does this require the mobilization of a much larger contingent of trainers, instructors and conveners—it requires the development of new teaching and learning approaches, methodologies and curricula. This curriculum represents an invitation to tertiary-level educators as well as water managers and decision-makers to redouble efforts towards water security in Asia and the Pacific – and invitation grounded in a process that lies at the heart of UNESCO’s mission: the sharing of knowledge, experience and technologies – in this case among scientific, educational and water management communities across the region.

UNESCO Strategy on Education for Health and Well-being سنة النشر: 2022 المؤلف المؤسسي: UNESCO This strategy guides UNESCO to promote the physical and mental health and well-being of learners. By reducing health-related barriers to learning, such as malnutrition, early and unintended pregnancy, HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and violence and discrimination, UNESCO, governments and school systems can unlock the potential of all learners. The evidence for increased focus on the link between education and health is strong. Education strongly impacts health outcomes and health is equally fundamental to education. This calls for a more comprehensive approach to school health and more coordinated action across sectors. This revised and updated strategy is a roadmap for UNESCO to promote comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) and safe and inclusive learning environments, and place more emphasis on the role of schools and education systems in promoting health and well-being.
