This webinar explores the major challenges of protecting and promoting cultural and linguistic diversity in the digital environment, at a time when digital technologies and artificial intelligence increasingly standardize content and reinforce the dominance of certain languages. Drawing on UNESCO’s normative frameworks, recent recommendations by its Member States, and key international commitments, the discussion will highlight issues related to the discoverability of multilingual cultural content, the risks of cultural dilution and loss of authenticity linked to AI, as well as the opportunities these technologies offer to support creativity and cultural transmission. Researchers, policymakers, academic networks and civil society actors will exchange perspectives on emerging trends and their implications for the future of education, culture and knowledge societies.
