AI and the Holocaust: Rewriting History?; The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Understanding the Holocaust Year of publication: 2024 Author: Mykola Makhortykh | Heather Mann Corporate author: UNESCO The threats associated with AI on safeguarding the record of the Holocaust are manifold, including the potential for manipulation by malicious actors, the introduction of falsehoods or dissemination of biased information, and the gradual erosion of public trust in authentic records. This paper provides a warning of what is at stake for the preservation of historical truth in a digital era increasingly mediated by AI. It highlights five major concerns:1. AI automated content may invent facts about the Holocaust2. Falsifying historical evidence: Deepfake Technology3. AI models can be manipulated to spread hate speech4. Algorithmic bias can spread Holocaust denial5. Oversimplifying history While there are some benefits to be gained, such as enhanced engagement and interaction opportunities for learners, as well as more efficient data processing capabilities for researchers, to navigate these challenges and capitalize on the benefits, it’s essential for AI designers, policymakers, educators, and researchers to collaborate closely. Only AI systems equipped with robust safeguards and human rights assessments, coupled with an increased focus on developing digital literacy skills, can uphold the integrity of historical truth and ensure the responsible use of artificial intelligence. 
Recommendation on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence Year of publication: 2022 Corporate author: UNESCO This Recommendation addresses ethical issues related to the domain of Artificial Intelligence to the extent that they are within UNESCO’s mandate. The protection of human rights and dignity is the cornerstone of this Recommendation. It is based on the advancement of fundamental principles such as transparency and fairness, and remembers the importance of human oversight of AI systems. However, what makes the Recommendation exceptionally applicable are its extensive Policy Action Areas, which allow policymakers to translate the core values and principles into action with respect to data governance, environment and ecosystems, gender, education and research, and health and social wellbeing, among many other spheres. 
Recomendación sobre la ética de la inteligencia artificial Year of publication: 2022 Corporate author: UNESCO La presente Recomendación trata de las cuestiones éticas relacionadas con el ámbito de la inteligencia artificial en la medida en que competen al mandato de la UNESCO. Aborda la ética de la IA como una reflexión normativa sistemática, basada en un marco integral, global, multicultural y evolutivo de valores, principios y acciones interdependientes, que puede guiar a las sociedades a la hora de afrontar de manera responsable los efectos conocidos y desconocidos de las tecnologías de la IA en los seres humanos, las sociedades y el medio ambiente y los ecosistemas, y les ofrece una base para aceptar o rechazar las tecnologías de la IA. Elle aborde l’éthique de l’IA en tant que réflexion normative systématique, basée sur un cadre global, détaillé, multiculturel et évolutif de valeurs, de principes et d’actions interdépendants de nature à orienter les sociétés pour qu’elles apportent des réponses responsables aux conséquences connues et inconnues des impacts des technologies de l’IA sur les êtres humains, les sociétés, l’environnement et les écosystèmes, et leur offre une base pour accepter ou rejeter les technologies de l’IA. The Effects of AI on the Working Lives of Women Year of publication: 2022 Author: Clementine Collett | Gina Neff | Livia Gouvea Gomes Corporate author: UNESCO | Inter-American Development Bank | Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) The use of AI technologies will affect women’s opportunities for work, and their position, status and treatment in the workplace. Around the globe, women in the labour force earn less than men, spend more time undertaking unpaid child- and elder-care jobs, hold fewer senior positions, participate less in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields, and tend to hold more precarious jobs overall. In harnessing AI, governments, institutions and companies must narrow gender gaps rather than perpetuate or exacerbate them. This report, by the IDB, OECD and UNESCO, outlines current knowledge of the impact that AI systems have on women’s opportunities for work, and their position, treatment and status in the workforce. It does so by exploring how AI is used within and outside the workplace, and how it could be used in the future. It looks at the potential impact of new and emerging AI technologies on the skills that employers will require, on how women look for and are hired for jobs, and on how jobs are structured through automated monitoring and oversight. The report maps the opportunities and challenges that AI presents for the working lives of women and highlights the complexities that varying national and regional contexts present for understanding the impact of AI on the work of women. The report also notes that current research does not offer a complete or definite picture of how AI impacts the working lives of women and calls for further research and analysis in this area. Partout dans le monde, les femmes dans la population active gagnent moins que les hommes, passent plus de temps à s'occuper des enfants et des personnes âgées sans être rémunérées, occupent moins de postes à responsabilités, sont moins présentes dans les domaines des sciences, de la technologie, de l'ingénierie et des mathématiques(STEM) et ont tendance à occuper des emplois plus précaires dans l'ensemble. En exploitant l'IA, les gouvernements, les institutions et les entreprises doivent réduire les inégalités femmes-hommes plutôt que les perpétuer ou de les exacerber. International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Education, Planning Education in the AI Era: Lead the Leap; Final Report Year of publication: 2019 Corporate author: UNESCO The current report is an exhaustive account of the discussion and debate at the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Education (hereafter referred to as ‘the conference’) held in Beijing from 16 to 18 May 2019. Under the overarching theme of ‘Planning Education in the AI Era: Lead the Leap’, the conference was structured into seven plenary sessions and 16 breakout sessions complemented by a live exhibition and study tours to facilitate forwardlooking debates, share cutting-edge knowledge and AI solutions, and deliberate on sector-wide strategies.

Y lo que es más importante, ¿cómo se abre camino en el contexto judicial? Tecnologías como la IA han existido durante décadas, pero solo recientemente han comenzado a usarse en una variedad de entornos de justicia y aplicación de la ley. Si bien la IA tiene un inmenso potencial para el sistema de justicia, ya que ayuda a los jueces a tomar mejores decisiones, mejora la eficiencia, aumenta el acceso y ayuda a detectar y prevenir el delito, también existen algunas cuestiones importantes que las partes interesadas en la justicia deben tener en cuenta mientras se preparan para un futuro en el que la IA se utiliza cada vez más en los sistemas de justicia. El kit de herramientas ayudará a los actores judiciales a mitigar los posibles riesgos de la IA para los derechos humanos al brindar orientación sobre las leyes, principios, normas y jurisprudencia internacional de derechos humanos relevantes que sustentan el uso ético de la IA.
