Case Study on Finnish TVET: A Resilient Model of Training During COVID-19 Année de publication: 2021 Auteur institutionnel: UNESCO | Omnia Education Partnerships This case study examines how technical and vocational education and training (TVET) was organized during the state of emergency caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in Finland. The disruption accentuated the importance of flexibility within the education system to make it resilient. Finnish TVET, created as a hybrid solution combining school-based, work-based and online-based learning environments, remained responsive and functional throughout the difficult time in spring 2020.To urgently improve the resilience of education, this case study emphasizes the necessity to improve system-level flexibilities across all levels and all types of TVET, including alternative modes of delivery and hybrid learning opportunities, as the one size fits all approach increases rigidity and redundancy of education and training. Flexible measures are key to improve resilience, also beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. 
Lifelong Learning in Transformation: Promising Practices in Southeast Asia Année de publication: 2017 Auteur: Rika Yorozu Auteur institutionnel: UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning (UIL) This report is an outcome of a project on building a lifelong learning agenda in Southeast Asian countries, which aims to address the region’s remaining educational challenges in ensuring ‘inclusive and equitable quality education and promot[ing] lifelong learning opportunities for all’ (Goal 4 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development). By sharing promising policies and practices in implementing integrated lifelong learning from different perspectives, countries can learn from one another and move their visions for lifelong learning fully into practice. The publication documents a variety of promising practices from 11 countries, focusing particularly on the features critical to the promotion of lifelong learning for all; namely, inclusive and gender-responsive teaching and learning practices, recognition of learning outcomes from non-formal and informal learning, collaboration between social and economic development sectors and coherent national government policies and strategies. The report comprises three main sections: a reflection on lifelong learning in international and national documents, a collection of good practice drawn from their national reports, and a set of recommendations for policies and programmes promoting lifelong learning. It is hoped that these recommendations will stimulate discussion and new developments, in both policy and practice, in the region. 
Spotlight on Basic Education Completion and Foundational Learning in Africa, 2022: Born to Learn Année de publication: 2022 Auteur institutionnel: UNESCO | Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) | African Union This publication is the first in a three-part Spotlight series. It is produced by a partnership between the Global Education Monitoring Report, the Association for the Development of Education in Africa and the African Union.The report focuses on why learning levels in the region are low. All children are born to learn yet only one in five children in Africa who reach the end of primary school achieve the minimum proficiency level required to continue their education and fulfil their potential. Combining completion and learning statistics, the report shows that children in Africa are at least five times less likely than children in the rest of the world to be prepared for the future.Given the historically low levels of learning on the continent, fresh thinking is needed to translate the CESA and SDG 4 commitments into focused, coordinated, well-informed and appropriately funded actions. The report contains eight policy-oriented recommendations for driving change.
