Journey through the MILtiverse: Media and Information Literacy Toolkit for Youth Organizations Année de publication: 2024 Auteur: Sandra Acero Pulgarin | Natalia González-Gil | Alejandro Santamaría Virviescas Auteur institutionnel: UNESCO Empowering Youth Organizations with and for Media and Information LiteracyIn an era where digital interactions dominate, young people must be equipped with more than just basic digital literacy skills.  Media and Information Literacy (MIL) has become an essential competency, enabling them to critically navigate the overwhelming ow of information in our fast-paced and complex information ecosystem. \With the Internet user base getting younger every day — data shows that one in three internet users is a child — countries worldwide are increasingly working on integrating MIL into their education systems. Despite these advancements, many young people still grapple with challenges such as disinformation, hate speech, and other harmful online content. Additionally, new technologies continue to emerge, creating challenges with unknown impacts. For example, 80% of young people aged 10 to 24 use AI multiple times a day for education, entertainment, and other purposes. Global youth organizations are at the forefront of UNESCO’s eorts to promote MIL among young people through informal education. This toolkit serves as a primary resource to help these organizations incorporate MIL into their strategies, policies, and operations, aiming to make MIL a lasting component of their practices and peer-to-peer educational programs. Join us on this journey through the MILtiverse and empower the next generation by making MIL a fundamental life competence for their futures.  A Gender-Responsive Communication Guide; Rethinking Communication Année de publication: 2021 Auteur: Gökçe Bayrakçeken Tüzel | İdil Safiye Soyseçkin Ceylan | Deniz Şilliler Tapan | Kıvanç Özvardar Auteur institutionnel: United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Language is a mechanism, a tool, that influences thoughts, shapes gender roles and therefore carries a great potential for establishing gender equality in societies. It shows how we perceive life and also determines it. Language plays an important role in the formation of our thoughts and behaviors, hence the construction of our reality about gender. As UNDP Turkey, we ground on gender equality and women’s empowerment principles in all of our programs and interventions, within the institution and in all forms of communication with our partners. The reason we prepared this guide is to determine the ways to have a gender responsive approach when communicating both in the office and with the institutions, organizations, and individuals we work with. The language we use begins to take shape from the moment we are born. It is kneaded within the norms, thoughts, and actions of the society we live in and becomes a set of rules that we unconsciously internalize. Therefore, we often use a sexist language even without realizing and thus reproduce it at every turn.Based on the idea that transformation begins with awareness, this guide offers a stimulating path to the limits of our language, demonstrates how it reproduces gender inequality, and offers ways for changing this.We believe that gender responsive communication is a sign of commitment to gender equality for any country, community or institution. Therefore, we invite you to become the transformation itself by following this sign.We would like to thank you in advance for your interest and dedication to using a gender responsive language and hope that this guide will help us on the way to become a gender-equal society.   Women’s Rights in Review 30 Years after Beijing Année de publication: 2025 Auteur institutionnel: United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) In 2025, the world celebrates 30 years of achievement on the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a visionary 1995 plan agreed by 189 governments to achieve the equal rights of all women and girls. The UN Secretary-General’s report on the 30-year review and appraisal of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action reflects global, regional, and national reviews of 159 countries, summarizing progress and priorities for further action. It finds that many countries have made strides on gender equality and women’s empowerment, from banning discrimination in employment to adopting gender-responsive climate action plans. Innovation is accelerating progress, and opportunities are opening to scale up proven strategies. Yet gender discrimination remains deeply embedded in all economies and societies, imposing chronic constraints on the rights and hopes of women and girls. Enshrined in the Treaties, it is something the EU is actively trying to achieve – most recently through its Gender Equality Strategy 2021-2025. The Strategy aims to give women, men, girls and boys, in all their diversity, the freedom to pursue their chosen path in life and equal opportunities to thrive and to participate in and lead European society. Looking back at the steps already taken, the ‘Gender equality in sport – Proposal for strategic actions 2014-2020’ has certainly led to achievements, but the pace of reforms needs to be accelerated. Firstly, the principle of gender equality now underpins all actions funded under Erasmus+ Sport and projects supporting women’s sport are actively encouraged. Secondly, awareness raising is at the core of EU action in this field, notably through studies or discussions, such as within the Commission Expert Group on Good Governance. Finally, initiatives such as the annual #BeInclusive EU Sport Awards recognise those organisations using sport to increase social inclusion, including gender equality. In 2020, Commissioner Gabriel announced the setting up of an expert group with the aim of discussing the way forward and proposing future actions in the area of gender equality in sport to the European Commission, EU Member States and sports organisations. The work of the experts will lead to the implementation of concrete actions at local, national and European level. This report is the result of the work of the European Commission High-Level Group (HLG) on Gender Equality in Sport. The 15 members of the HLG were appointed in December 2020. Work began in February 2021 and was completed in December 2021. Meetings focused on six areas of engagement identified by the experts. Scientists and practitioners shared findings of their research and good practices. Each meeting was followed by working sessions to summarise the presentations and formulate recommendations. Economic and social distress, particularly for those most in need, is exacerbated by the war in Ukraine, and in Gaza, leading to longer and more expensive trade routes, increased hunger and food insecurity, and rising CO2 emissions, impacting developing countries’ ability to meet the SDGs, and the need for reliable information becomes even more critical. SDG Pulse serves three main purposes: firstly, to update on the evolution of selected official SDG indicators and complementary data and statistics; second, to report on progress in developing new concepts and methodologies for SDG indicators for which UNCTAD is a global custodian; and third, to showcase UNCTAD’s support to member States in implementing the 2030 Agenda. Building on the previous edition, SDG Pulse continues to track progress according to four transformations identified at UNCTAD’s intergovernmental meeting in Bridgetown (UNCTAD, 2021). The report also delves into thematic issues relevant to the 2030 Agenda bringing to the forefront key messages related to trade and multilateralism, development finance, economic diversification, and sustainability and resilience. This year’s In-Focus topic explores gender equality in trade. Despite global advancements, gender inequality persists, affecting women's lives through economic participation, education, health, and political empowerment worldwide. UNCTAD’s new gender equality in trade indicator set helps illuminate gender gaps in trade to inform effective policy actions and accelerate just and equal development. This overview provides a glance at recent developments and analysis related to sustainable development. Educational Contexts, Feminism and Gender identities of Adolescents from a Rural Mayan Town in Yucatan (Iberoamerican Journal of Education; vol. 89, no. 1) Année de publication: 2022 Auteur: Silvia Montejo Murillo Auteur institutionnel: Organización de Estados Iberoamericanos (OEI) The purpose of this article is to compare and explore the gender identity of adolescent women from a rural Mayan locality, from two of their educational contexts: the telesecundaria school and daily life in the community. Interviews and participant observation were used to obtain qualitative primary data. Among the main findings, it stands out that the institutional structure and rigidity of the school limits adolescents from being able to act at certain times from social attributes different from those offered by their locality. Likewise, the school contributed to the individualization of the participants and trained them to have foreign values as a desirable representation of “development”, aspects that do not necessarily contribute to the idea of “community”.
