Education for Global Citizenship: Promoting Democracy Année de publication: 2019 Auteur: Manuela Mesa Auteur institutionnel: Autonomous University of Madrid | Red Iberoamericana de Investigación sobre Cambio y Eficacia Escolar (RINACE) This paper makes a reflection on the role of education in the current international context, marked by profound changes and by a situation of uncertainty and instability and reverse in rights. It discusses the various interpretative frameworks that explain the current world and that are articulated around the global-local axis and ethnic-national identities and multiple identities. In a world characterized by the complexity and speed of changes, it is very important to overcome the the compartmentalization of knowledge in areas such as mathematics, social, language, etc and look for global approaches. Education as a transformative practice cannot be outside of the major challenges facing humanity at the national and multilateral. The 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals gives opportunities for the consolidation of the Education for Global Citizenship. Se abordan los diversos marcos interpretativos que explican el mundo actual y que se articulan en torno al eje global-local y al eje identitario. En un mundo caracterizado por la complejidad y la rapidez de cambios es muy importante superar la compartimentalización del conocimiento en áreas estanco (matemáticas, sociales, lengua, etc.) para abordarlo de manera global. La educación como práctica transformadora no puede estar al margen de los grandes retos que enfrenta la humanidad en el ámbito nacional y multilateral. La Agenda 2030 y los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible abre oportunidades para consolidar la educación para la ciudadanía global. 
Human Rights Education: Key Success Factors Année de publication: 2023 Auteur institutionnel: UNESCO This study, commissioned by the UNESCO in cooperation with the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), examines the impact of human rights education (HRE) pedagogies and good practices worldwide, with a specific focus on the primary and secondary levels in formal education. Using a data-driven approach that includes a literature review and surveys and interviews with informants, the study identifies key success factors for impactful HRE and provides recommendations for future research and practice. The study finds that HRE can have a positive impact on learners’ knowledge and understanding of human rights, as well as their attitudes and behaviours related to human rights. It is an essential resource for education stakeholders looking to promote HRE at all levels of society and through a lifelong learning lens.

On the other hand, this new Editorial Series, open to social movements, platforms of struggle, academic groups, collaboration networks, public policy makers, citizens of all of our Latin America and the Caribbean and other latitudes of the global South, combines a multiplicity of edges, perspectives and approaches. This volume comes to occupy a vacant place in critical studies on disability in Latin America, which is to record the struggles for the rights of these people in our region. Introducing a historical problematization in this regard not only has an epistemological and political relevance, but also makes a contribution to the present and to contemporary disability policies. 
Education: Still Searching for Utopia? (The UNESCO Courier no. 1, January-March 2018) Année de publication: 2018 Auteur institutionnel: UNESCO At a time of heightened global tension, when human rights, freedom of speech, peace and the future of the planet itself may seem challenged as never before, the transformational power of education is of critical importance.In Learning: The Treasure Within, the landmark Report to UNESCO by the International Commission on Education for the Twenty-first Century in 1996, Jacques Delors, then Chairman of the Commission (1992 to 1996), spoke of education as “the necessary Utopia” and “an indispensable asset in its attempt to attain the ideals of peace, freedom and social justice.”Education was held up as neither miracle nor magic, but rather the best means to foster a climate where humanity would be improved −. and where the rich potential for learning, inherent in every individual, would be tapped. Our humanity is confronted with a very strange paradox: the world’s population has never been better educated, and yet, according to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, 263 million children and young people are out of school, 617 million children and adolescents worldwide do not meet the minimum threshold for literacy and mathematics, at least 750 million adults are illiterate, and girls remain more likely than boys to never set foot in a classroom. Yet education is still called upon to address inequalities, poverty, terrorism and conflict. It is seen as one of the keys to global citizenship and sustainable development, two of UNESCO’s fields of action. The Organization is also mandated to lead the Education 2030 global agenda with a special focus on ensuring that no one is left behind. Under the title, “Education: Still searching for Utopia?”, the UNESCO Courier evaluates the state of global education and explores how it responds to some of the main challenges we face.

Podemos en realidad estar lejos de los lugares donde el genocidio contra el pueblo judío fue perpetrado, pero también América Latina está todavía haciéndose cargo de su propio pasado de violencia y crímenes contra la humanidad. Con esta publicación, los educadores latinoamericanos van a tener al alcance de la mano un recuento actualizado de los temas más destacados que se discuten sobre pedagogía y construcción de políticas. También podrán explorar cómo, todavía hoy en Europa, la educación sobre el Holocausto da forma a una cultura de la memoria. UNESCO is convinced that the prevention of genocide begins at school. In a world where mass violence is possible, this publication will show the importance of teaching young people about the Holocaust and about other genocides in history. It is a condition to prevent similar crimes from happening in the future.
