UNESCO guidelines on intercultural education Année de publication: 2006 Auteur institutionnel: UNESCO This paper aims to synthesize the central issues surrounding Intercultural Education, and presents the fundamental guiding principles for an intercultural approach to education as viewed by UNESCO. It is divided into three parts. Part I outlines the key issues surrounding Intercultural Education, as well as its objectives and basic operating principles. Part II contains a short presentation of the normative framework for Intercultural Education, based on an analysis of international standard-setting instruments that make reference to education and intercultural issues, and on outcomes from International Conferences. Part III synthesizes the international position on this issue and provides a set of three basic principles that should guide educational policies with regard to Intercultural Education.

(The UNESCO Courier no. 1, January-March 2018) Année de publication: 2018 Auteur institutionnel: UNESCO At a time of heightened global tension, when human rights, freedom of speech, peace and the future of the planet itself may seem challenged as never before, the transformational power of education is of critical importance.In Learning: The Treasure Within, the landmark Report to UNESCO by the International Commission on Education for the Twenty-first Century in 1996, Jacques Delors, then Chairman of the Commission (1992 to 1996), spoke of education as “the necessary Utopia” and “an indispensable asset in its attempt to attain the ideals of peace, freedom and social justice.”Education was held up as neither miracle nor magic, but rather the best means to foster a climate where humanity would be improved −. and where the rich potential for learning, inherent in every individual, would be tapped. Our humanity is confronted with a very strange paradox: the world’s population has never been better educated, and yet, according to the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, 263 million children and young people are out of school, 617 million children and adolescents worldwide do not meet the minimum threshold for literacy and mathematics, at least 750 million adults are illiterate, and girls remain more likely than boys to never set foot in a classroom. Yet education is still called upon to address inequalities, poverty, terrorism and conflict. It is seen as one of the keys to global citizenship and sustainable development, two of UNESCO’s fields of action. The Organization is also mandated to lead the Education 2030 global agenda with a special focus on ensuring that no one is left behind. Under the title, “Education: Still searching for Utopia?”, the UNESCO Courier evaluates the state of global education and explores how it responds to some of the main challenges we face. A Pedagogical Guide on Global Citizenship Education in Korean Context Année de publication: 2015 Auteur institutionnel: APCEIU APCEIU has published a pedagogical guide on Global Citizenship Education (GCED) for Korean readers, which is the Korean adaptation of the UNESCO pedagogical guide, GCED: Topics and Learning Objectives (a.k.a. TLOs).Following the recently launched Korean translation of the TLOs, this Korean adaptation contextualizes the TLOs in Korean education, aligns its terminologies with Korean curriculum, and provides further explanations for Korean readers. This guide was developed by professors in the field of teacher education, primary and secondary school teachers, and curriculum developers with special expertise in GCED/EIU.It is hoped that this guide will help Korean educators and key stakeholders better understand GCED as a new pedagogy and also reflect on traditional teaching-learning experiences in various respects. Éducation Mondiale à la citoyenneté: Sujets et objectifs d'apprentissage Année de publication: 2015 Auteur institutionnel: APCEIU APCECI a publié un guide pédagogique sur l'éducation à la citoyenneté Mondiale (ECM) pour les lecteurs coréens, qui est l'adaptation coréenne du guide pédagogique de l'UNESCO, ECM: Sujets et objectifs d'apprentissage (TLO) alias.Après la traduction coréenne a récemment lancé le TLO, cette adaptation coréenne contextualise les TLO dans l'éducation coréenne, aligne ses terminologies avec curriculum coréen, et fournit d'autres explications pour les lecteurs coréens. Ce guide a été élaboré par des professeurs dans le domaine de la formation des enseignants, les enseignants des écoles primaires et secondaires, et les développeurs de programmes d'études avec une expertise particulière dans ECM / ECI.Il est à espérer que ce guide aidera les éducateurs coréens et les principaux intervenants de mieux comprendre ECM comme une nouvelle pédagogie et de réfléchir également sur les expériences d'enseignement et d'apprentissage traditionnelles à divers égards.
