Teaching resource kit for dryland countries: a creative approach to environmental education Année de publication: 2007 Auteur: Thomas Schaaf Auteur institutionnel: UNESCO Entitled A Creative Approach to Environmental Education/Teaching Resource Kitfor Dryland Countries, the kit is intended for secondary-school teachers in countries affected by desertification and is based on an innovative approach appealing to the creativity and artistic sensibility of pupils aged 10 to 15 years. This approach favours discovery of the environment through the senses, and emphasizes the visual and exploratory aspects of environmental study. The idea of using creativity and artistic sensibility to promote ecological awareness may in the future become a source of collaboration to be explored in detail by the different sectors of UNESCO. A teaching resource kit for mountain countries: a creative approach to environmental education Année de publication: 2010 Auteur: Thomas Schaaf Auteur institutionnel: UNESCO Entitled: A Teaching Resource Kit for Mountain Countries, it is a new environmental education kit similar to the Teaching Resource Kit for Dryland Countries published by UNESCO in 2008. It is based on the same innovative approach appealing to the creativity and artistic sensibility of pupils aged around 10 to 15, and is intended for secondary-school (and late primary-school) teachers and their pupils, this time living in mountain ecosystems, where climate and environmental conditions are harsh, often varying between extremes, and which are subject to the problems of erosion. As an educational tool, the kit offers a practical and attractive way of helping teachers and their pupils towards a better understanding of the environmental problems of their region and to stimulate their quest for possible solutions. In this respect, its content is a further contribution to the United Nations General Assembly’s resolution proclaiming 2002 the International Year of Mountains and is also consistent with the activities developed as part of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014), the promotion of which is UNESCO’s responsibility.

Education for international understanding: a river flowing from the mountains (SangSaeng vol5. autumn 2002) Année de publication: 2002 Auteur: Swee-Hin Toh Auteur institutionnel: APCEIU EIU (Education for International Understanding) is a concept that has diverse sources and tributaries, much like a river that begins in the mountains and flows to the sea or ocean, enriched by innumerable ideas, perspectives and practices along its journey. However, unlike a river in one community or nation, this is a river that flows across the world encompassing the breadth and depth of civilizations, peoples and mother Earth. Although by designation EIU appears to have a “modern genealogy,” it is vital to recognize and to search for its roots in the ancient wisdoms of all civilizations, especially through the values and principles of well-being, dignity and good or virtuous relationships between and among all peoples, communities and societies. EIU has been catalyzed and developed by multiple individuals, organizations, agencies and movements, including educators, researchers, national/multilateral organizations (e.g. UN agencies), NGOs, people’s organizations (POs) and other civil society movements and advocates. EIU is simultaneously practiced in all modes of education (formal, non-formal and informal), but a challenge is to attain synergy across all the modes for optimal outcomes and sustainability. 
EIU Best Practice Series No. 17: Climate cool schools project in Malaysia: creating awareness and understanding of climate change Année de publication: 2010 Auteur: Maria Salih Auteur institutionnel: APCEIU The Climate Cool Schools (CCS)-Global Platform project is a multilateral learning portal for students in Malaysia, the UK, and Hong Kong to work together to explore local and global climate change issues. The learning portal enables these students to learn from each other about what actions are possible, and to find a voice to advocate wider actions at the local and global levels. The project was initiated in late 2007 and in early 2008 embarked on a two year trial basis with the British Council (BC), Sultan Idris Education University (SIEU), and the Perak State Education Department (JPN, Perak) as the partners. This project is a follow-up from the ZeroCarbonCity project launched in 2005 by the British Council.

The value of such resources is not limited to teachers alone; it is also useful to policy and decision makers, teacher educators, researchers and academics as well as students themselves. 
EIU Best Practices Series No. 43: Embracing Sustainability: You Can Make a Difference Année de publication: 2016 Auteur institutionnel: APCEIU This monograph is one of APCEIU's EIU Best Practices Series, which aims to encourage educators, scholars, and activists to implement and share local initiatives on EIU. The Series No. 43 introduces a programme called “Embracing Sustainability: You Can Make a Difference”, designed by a teacher in New Zealand to allow his students to think about sustainability from a global perspective. The programme has been successful in engaging disengaged youth by giving them a sense of self-worth and helping them to understand sustainability and see their place in the global society. The valuable insights provided in this case will also be able to inform those who intend to embed EIU/GCED principles in the existing curriculum. 
EIU Best Practices Series No. 7: Inculcating School Responsibility in Thai Youth: A Case Study on Sister Schools Project Network under UNESCO ASPNet Année de publication: 2007 Auteur institutionnel: APCEIU This monograph is one of APCEIU's EIU Best Practices Series, which aims to encourage educators, scholars, and activists to implement and share local initiatives on EIU. The Series No.7 is a case study of two Thai schools within the Sister Schools Project Network, which is under the UNESCO ASP NET and UNESCO Club. As schools visited other schools in the network, students became involved in fundraising to support one another, thereby naturally acquiring invaluable team building skills, intercultural understanding, and social responsibility. This case shows that sister school network system can foster values of sharing, caring, and loving, despite socio-economic disparity among students.
