Including Transformative Education in Pre-service Teacher Training: A Guide for Universities and Teacher Training Institutions in the Arab Region Année de publication: 2024 Auteur: Khalaf Al Abri | Marco Pasqualini Auteur institutionnel: UNESCO Beirut Transformative Education (TE), which includes concepts such as Global Citizenship Education (GCED) and Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), is an essential approach to provide learners with the tools to act for more just, peaceful and sustainable societies. Between 2021 and 2023, the experts of the UNESCO Arab Transformative Education Network identified the creation of a course on Transformative Education for teachers’ pre-service training as a key step to (i) provide teachers with the needed skills to promote Transformative Education as part of the national curriculum as well as though their daily teaching practices, and (ii) to support the reform of pedagogies more broadly, by making them more interactive and focused on critical thinking, and thus positively contributing to improving learners’ overall learning outcomes. This guidance document is addressed to all entities in charge of pre-service teacher training (e.g. departments of education within higher education institutions and teacher training institutions) in the Arab region interested in including Transformative Education as part of their programmes. The guidance document particularly supports faculty deans and academia in defining the scope and the key parameters to consider while developing a course on Transformative Education, including defining course objectives, format, content, and pedagogy, as well as choosing the right facilitator(s) to deliver the course. The document also provides useful references to other guides and tools which can further support the reflections around Transformative Education and how it can be concretely applied and promoted at the higher education level.

Transformative Learning Journeys: Venturing Into the Wilds of Global Citizenship Education Année de publication: 2021 Auteur institutionnel: Bridge 47 With the intensive courses of the Transformative Learning Journey, Bridge 47 created experimental learning spaces for communities of practitioners, researchers and activists of transformative education from around the world. The courses endeavored to challenge common concepts of Global Citizenship Education, to explore questions like those below and to experiment with different, holistic and potentially more transformative, practices of learning and co-creating.What are the (cultural) root causes of the global multi-crisis?How to decolonize and transform a modern system that is broken beyond fixing? What do we have to learn, unlearn or let go of- individually and collectively - in order to allow, embrace and foster real change? What characterizes transformative learning, and how can education create holistic spaces to trigger, support and accompany such learning processes? How transformative is our own organizational and educational practice?Do we have to re-imagine education and activism and become more radical? Are we asking the right questions?Based on the positive resonance, Bridge 47 wants to share some of the learnings through this publication. The book gives insights into the design, content and methodology of the course. Featuring diverse contributions from participants, it is a mosaic of perspectives and experiences of transformation, decolonization and learning. It also comprises some tools and invitations for reflection. It is not a cohesive prescription of how to facilitate transformative learning – as there is none - but an invitation to relate to and play."This book is dedicated to all the curious people out there who are passionate about education in caring for our world and each other - the dreamers, the healers, the lovers, the teachers for a different future to emerge. It goes to the fighters who are desperate and overwhelmed in face of complex challenges and are worn out by their struggle for justice and change – to find inspiration, energy and courage to treat ourselves gently, to let go and to make space for new things to emerge."
Learning Outcomes of Fifth and Sixth Graders in a Computer Course Using a Virtual Reality Website for Learning (Educational Journal ; Vol.48, No.1) Année de publication: 2020 Auteur: 曹永庆 | 林佳禾 In recent years, the use of virtual reality (VR) in games and teaching has become increasingly popular. The boundless nature of the Web and the uniqueness of multimedia in VR greatly enhance peer interaction as well as the interaction between learners and virtual objects on Webpages.Elementary schoolchildren’s habits of using Webpages depends upon the navigation interface design of the Webpages. Therefore, understanding the effectiveness of schoolchildren’s visual interaction with Webpages will help implement VR into Websites for schoolchildren. The purpose of this experiment was to explore the learning outcomes of 60 Taiwanese fifth and sixth graders in a computer course using VR Webpages. The experiment involved students learning through the tasks set on the VR Web platform “CoSpaces EDU.” The differences in their learning outcomes on the “5C key competencies” (i.e., communication and coordination skills, teamwork capabilities, problem-solving skills, independent thinking capabilities, and creativity) before and after the experiment were compared.Based on the results of expert assessment and students’ self-evaluation, paired-samples t test was conducted to compare the learning outcomes before and after implementing the VR teaching. Results show that the fifth and sixth graders were found to exhibit excellent 5C competencies after the experiment.
